Work . Weekend . Wow | Crop Skimmer Jean

And just like that, I’m off again for a couple days for a blog conference in Austin, this time to try to figure out the puzzle that is Facebook when trying to use it to promote your blog!  I hope I learn a few things and I’ll be sure to report back!  But, the cool thing is, I get to meet up with my buddies Cassie and Sheaffer for some fun girl time! You know it’s always a hoot with these girls! I swear, I wish I was funny but at least I know when to laugh!  😉

So, I’ve been playing around with a new fashion series idea where I show you multiple ways to wear an item for different types of occasions; specifically, work, weekend and a night out (wow).  I know we all like to get the most out of our clothes by mixing and matching with other things in our closet and also get the most bang for our buck.  So, as the title suggests, these posts will feature one hero piece, then give you ideas for how to wear it at the office, on the weekend and for date night.  Let me know if you like this idea!!

WORK

HERO PIECE:  Skimmer Jeans.  Today we’re getting started with a very comfortable and flattering crop skimmer jean.  This jean comes in five Spring colors, so they aren’t your typical casual blue jean.  I’m wearing the color called ‘thyme’, that is best described as light olive, but whisper pink looks really pretty too.

Fit:  These jeans fit TTS, and come in petite.  I’m wearing 0P. The brand is Wit & Wisdom, which is known for their ‘Ab Solution’ technology that molds and holds with a touch of stretch.  Basically, they keep your tummy tucked in with a built-in stretch waistband, but from the outside, they look like a regular 5-pocket, zipper jean.

For this first work look, I wore the skimmers with an ivory satin tank blouse that is both sophisticated and relaxed.  I like this type of blouse for work because it’s office appropriate (if your job allows bare arms) and also keeps you cool during the hot months.  Anyone else already looking forward to summer already?! The blouse comes in a whole rainbow of colors, so you’ll definitely want more than one!  This ivory is slightly sheer, but with a nude bra, you’ll be fine.

I left my blouse untucked, but for a more professional look, go ahead and tuck it.  It would look great tucked into your pencil and A-line skirts too.

Blouse Fit: TTS, wearing XSP

To give the look some pizzazz, I wore a colorful tassel necklace (similar here) and bold earrings.

You’ve seen my carrying this o-ring bag a lot lately, and it comes with a removeable crossbody handle.  I just happen to like carrying it by the ring.  It’s also 50% off, so I’m sure it will sell out fast!

In a lot of work environments, closed-toe shoes are preferred, so your nude pumps will work perfectly with this outfit.  Nude heels are my go-to when I want to give the illusion of longer legs.

If your office is chilly or they type that prefers covered arms, you can easily add a cardigan to this look.  I’m wearing the relaxed pocket cardigan in the bold black and white stripe pattern.

Cardigan Fit:  This cardigan is oversized, so size down for a more fitted look.  I’m wearing XSP.

I switched out the tassel necklace for the 5-strand choker necklace that I always get tons of compliments on.  It’s very delicate and looks like you’re wearing more than one necklace, but it’s just one! It looks great with these types of v-neck tops.

Here’s a better look at the earrings.  At first I thought they’d be too big on me, but after wearing them and getting used to it, they aren’t too bold at all.  And they are on the lightweight side, so they don’t bother my ears.

You can wear it buttoned, or unbuttoned, but I prefer it open.

WEEKEND

These skimmers transition easily to weekend wear with a casual top and sandals.

Of course I love a striped top, but this one is extra cute with the bell sleeves and textured knit fabric.

When you want to be hands-free, a crossbody bag is definitely your answer and I like how this one is a decent (but not overwhelming) size.  It’s large enough to hold all your essentials and then some, but won’t be too big on a small frame.  It’s got several inner pockets to keep you organized.  This tan color will go with everything, but it also comes in pink, blue and white.

I’ve come to trust Sam Edelman shoes as a quality brand with a comfortable fit and stylish look.  Every pair I’ve ever had has lasted forever! I’ve had a similar sandal to these in blue, and when I saw them in leopard, it was an immediate must have!

Sandal Fit: They run TTS, but also narrow.

WOW

Finally, I dressed up these skimmer jeans with a ‘wow’ wrap top for a night out.

Even though this top is ‘wow’ with the plunging neckline and hourglass silhouette, it’s also sweet with ruffle detail.  The material is soft as a t-shirt and slightly stretchy, but sill says va va voom with the shape.  I always like a 3/4 length top for showing off your wrist jewelry too!

Top Fit:  Slightly small, but probably not enough to size up, I’m wearing XS, which fits perfectly.

Whenever possible, I like to add a pop of leopard and a bit in the bag and shoes isn’t too much.

Leopard Shoes Fit:  These run small, size up half.

  1. I’ve been meaning to comment on two random things! I remember you doing a gallery wall in your bedroom with flower pictures. I found it but WOW! Baby James looks just like Jordan! And….I very much enjoyed and needed your post a ways back on getting out of the schulmp (sp?) you know…when Mommas feel frumpy?? I’m in a frump stage. Little extra weight from winter, clothes seem all the same. Just a thought! BTW…you inspired me and I did similar pictures in my dining room. Xoxo

  2. LOVE this post!!!!!! Thank you, Megan. I have 2 pairs of the Wit and Wisdom pants and love them, the thyme and mushroom colors. Would never have thought to put the thyme color with black and leopard!

  3. I also love this post and would love to see more in the future! I haven’t tried wit and wisdom but it sounds fab! Love the colors!

  4. I like the idea of a three ways to wear an article of clothing post. It helps us see how with a few simple changes we can take it from work to play. Keep them coming!
