Work . Weekend . Wow | Bootcut Jeans

Happy Friday friends!  I’m waking up in Austin this morning no closer to solving any Facebook puzzles, but at least I’m having a good time catching up with friends!  Thank you SO much for letting me know you like my new fashion series: Work • Weekend • Wow!   Getting your feedback is so appreciated!

In these WWW posts, I’ll show you multiple ways to wear an item for different types of occasions; specifically, work, weekend and a night out (wow).  I know we all like to get the most out of our clothes by mixing and matching with other things in our closet and also get the most bang for our buck.  So, as the title suggests, these posts will feature one hero piece, then give you ideas for how to wear it at the office, on the weekend and for date night.

I know a majority of you work outside the home, but I’m curious what your office dress code is like?  It is strictly professional or more lax and casual? Can you wear jeans daily or only on Friday?  Let me know and that will help me plan these posts better in the future! And for you SAHM or work from home moms (like me!), I hope the Work looks translate for you when you need something more pulled together for lunch dates, PTO, church, or meetings.

WORK

Yesterday, I showed you three ways to wear your colored crop skimmer jeans, and today it’s all about the bootcut jean!

If your office allows for jeans on casual Friday, a lightweight sweater and jeans with heels will still look put together, especially when paired with a layered beaded necklace.  Dark wash jeans are even more professional looking, but I really love the light wash on this pair of jeans with just the slightest whiskering at the pockets.

HERO PIECE: Bootcut Jeans • I found the most.comfortable. and flattering bootcut jeans ever and I’m not just aaying that!  You have to at least try them on to see what I mean.  And they’re under $80! They’re designed to keep your tummy in and they also look ? from behind! ? When I first put these on, I didn’t want to take them off! It’s hard to find any kind of pant or jean that give you legs for days, but these do! Y’all know what a shorty I am, just 5’1 (with short legs!), but I felt so much taller and leggier (is that a word?) in these!

Jeans Fit: They run a tad big, I’m wearing 00P, a size down from my regular 0P.  I’d recommend sizing down in these because they also have a lot of stretch.  They are the same Wit & Wisdom brand from yesterday with ab-solution technology, designed to tuck you in and keep your tummy tamed.

To get the maximum long-leg benefit of these jeans, wear them with your closed, pointy toe shoes and make sure the length of the jeans just skims the floor. I’m lucky that the petite size required no alterations with my heels.  If you can’t do heels (I get it), try a pointy toe flat or loafer because a rounded toe tends to make us look stumpy.

Tucking your shirt in will also emphasize your leg line and I wore this sweater both ways (just a mini front tuck) to show you the look.

This crew neck sweater is all business and quite conservative in the front, but comes with a sweet surprise in the back with the blue and white striped bows!  How cute are those?!  It also looks great with your white jeans like I showed you here.

I sure hope my little o-ring bag isn’t sold out by the time you read this- it’s 50% off, so going fast! It converts to a crossbody too for more versatility. Aren’t the beaded tassel bracelets cute?! I got them from my dear friend Jamie for my birthday this year!  I think she really knows me because I love them!  They come in a set of 5 (one is hiding in the pic below;) and are stretchy, so very easy to slip on.

WEEKEND

Next up is our weekend look.  Although this sleeveless blouse is a wardrobe staple and ready for a work day, it’s also flirty and fun in red with a pair of leopard heels! I like this outfit for meeting my friends on the weekend for lunch or a movie since we probably won’t be walking for long in these high heels!

Yesterday’s WWW satin blouse was from Nordstrom and this sassy red one is from Loft.  They are comparable in style, but this one has a t-shirt material in the back, lending it a bit more casual feel.  Both are machine washable, which is always a plus.

I can’t get enough of this 5-strand necklace, I told you it looks especially good with v-neck tops!  Perfectly delicate, yet statement making!

WOW

Upping the ante for a night out or date night, my uniform is usually skinny jeans with heels and a cute top.  Sometimes we need a break from those skinnies, and these bootcut jeans are a great alternative.

This ‘wow’ look isn’t necessarily dressy, but more on the ‘let’s go grab a bite and a drink’ style. I grabbed one of my favorite everyday tanks and layered a leopard cardigan with it to up the interest.  #leopardisalwaysagoodidea!

The cardigan is just the kind of thing I also liked to keep at work for chilly office buildings.  It comes in a ton of colors and patterns and looks great with slacks and skirts alike.

Cardigan Fit:  This cardi runs TTS, but size up if you want a looser fit.  I’m wearing XSP.

With delicate necklaces, you can have fun layering them and the long Y necklace can be worn several ways because the beads are adjustable.

I’m definitely loving this fold-over pale blue clutch with a metal ring handle.  It adds just enough soft pop of color that I like.

Exchange the cardigan for a leopard belt and show it off by tucking the tank in.  This is my kind of casual night-out outfit for summer when it’s super hot out in Houston!

This tank will be on repeat all Spring and Summer long, it’s a great casual, relaxed cut with a small front pocket and 25% off in the white and grey making it under $14!  It’s the sister version to this ultra comfy and perfect little v-neck pocket t-shirt

  1. In my office it’s jeans on Fridays…and there is normally a casual week once a month for charity. However, it seems that people are pushing it a bit more and wearing jeans on non casual days and only really putting an office look together when they have external meetings. At the IT place I worked before my current office, everyone wore jeans daily. Only stipulation was that they weren’t ‘tatty’ jeans.

  2. We can wear jeans every day at my work – I love this new series, seeing different ways to mix and match staple pieces is great!

  3. I love that pink sweater! The ties in the back are adorable! I’d unfortunately never be able to wear it at work, or the jeans. I work in hospital administration and we are business casual to business professional at all times, no jeans days (though I have once gotten away with black jeans, shhhh!).

  4. I work in a mostly casual setting. I wear jeans and jeggings most days but never denim itself if that makes sense. Black jeans and other colored denim as long as it’s not a blue jean. I’ll also get away with thick leggings with a long enough top and boots or some type of shoe that doesn’t make it obvious that I’m wearing leggings! Loving this series because I’m not creative with outfits – I’ll put an outfit together and most times will only wear that same outfit as a set without really mixing & matching ?

    1. I loved colored denim!! I’ve seen a lot of it this year – may need to work on that!! I’m happy to help, I hope you find good inspiration here!!

  5. I work in downtown Houston in a corporate office. We can only wear jeans on Friday. The rest of the week its more casual than a full suit but business attire: i usually wear pants/nice shirt/wedges or a dress with heels.

  6. I love the mix and match ideas. It’s easy to see how you would pair items together and then take items from your closet that are similar color/print and pair it together. I love to see more WOW outfits!!!

  7. Love that I can wear jeans everyday. Wear heals rarely…love them…but my back doesn’t! Would be nice to see different flats and sandals that are work suitable.

  8. I’m super fortunate, I own a construction company, and I’m also a cabinet designer. Luckily having my “designer” title, it allows me to be a little more free with what I wear on a day to day basis, and I can push the envelope with bright colors or patters. Being the boss helps too 😀

Typically, our office attire doesn’t limit jeans or jeggings, as long as you’re put together and don’t look like a hot mess (I’m sometimes excluded by this, but I can hide in my office on those days). We also allow shorts in the summer (we’re in the Palm Springs area), but nothing short short.

Normally, when I have meetings with big clients I’ll step up my wardrobe game with some nice pants and a dressy blouse and great shoes.

  9. Since you asked- no blogs ever give ideas for dressing nicely when you work in and out of a lab! That’s why most scientists wear hoodies I guess 😉 I’m a lab manager and here’s the deets: labs are COLD, you must have legs covered (no skirts/dresses/capris), no open toe shoes and heels are impractical when you’re on your feet a lot running experiments, big ruffles and bell sleeves are tough to stuff under a lab coat. Would love to see if you can come up with some ideas that go with that criteria!!

    1. Thanks Cassandra! I’m up for the challenge! I think of offices and court rooms when I think of work – but there’s so many other “offices” out there!!!

  10. My office is business casual/professional (depending on the day/meetings), with Fridays being jeans day. All jeans outfits fit for work would be welcomed – sometimes I feel like that is the hardest to dress for. Keeping it casual while still professional!

    1. Yes! I know finding the right mix of casual and work attire can be hard!! Sometimes by Friday, jeans and a tee seem like the only option!!!
