My Miracle Morning Routine

Thank you for the love on Jordan’s nursery!  Isn’t it wild how fast she’s growing?!  And now that we’re almost a quarter into the year (already?!), it’s time to check in and re-asses all those goals we set for ourselves at the beginning of the year.  If you read my How to Plan Your Entire Year In Advance or How To Plan Your Day for Maximum Efficiency, then you know how much I love being productive and organized.  It’s easy to feel motivated on January 1st when things are all fresh and new, but we can easily lose momentum as life piles up and things start getting busy, busy!  It’s the same way here!

In December last year, I read The Miracle Morning and started incorporating the practice into my daily routine. The reason this Miracle Morning routine is so important is that without it, I feel like I just go, go, go without any time for self-reflection or planning or self growth. Touching base with yourself is critical to our self care and well-being.  The goal of the Miracle Morning is to wake up each day with more energy, motivation and focus to take your life to the next level.

If you recall, the Miracle Morning Routine consists of 6 daily rituals “SAVERS” : Silence, Affirmation, Visualization, Exercise, Reading, Scribing (writing). Lots of you asked to see what my whole morning looks like, so today’s post is for you!

MY MIRACLE MORNING ROUTINE

EXERCISE

The funny thing is, I don’t usually do all the parts of my Miracle Morning first thing in the morning.  And that’s okay! On days I go to the gym early, I don’t start the rest of the miracle morning until around 9am when my mom gets here.  And it’s worth noting that your ‘exercise’ portion of the miracle morning could be as simple as just stretching for a few minutes.  Go here to read how to do the Miracle Morning in just 6 minutes!

I do an early morning group gym class about 3 days a week.  The class starts at 6 am, so I have to wake up at 5:20 to make it on time. I started putting my phone with the alarm across the room so that I have to actually get out of bed to turn it off.  I lay out my workout clothes the night before so I don’t have to stumble around figuring out what to wear before I’m actually awake and fully functioning.

(These are the shorts I showed you here that were a SUPER happy find!  I love the fit, the style, the smooth wider waistband, and the built-in waist pocket for running with your car key! They are moisture wicking and are lined!!  Basically, I hit the running shorts JACKPOT with these!!  They fit TTS, I’m wearing XS).

I brush my teeth, head downstairs, drink a cup of Muscle Egg for protein and because I can’t workout on an empty stomach, fill up my water bottle with BCAA and 1/2 scoop of Spark and head out the door.

Getting up so early to workout really sucks in the moment, but it feels SO GOOD after you’re done!

When I get back around 7am, I visit with James while he’s getting ready for school, then jump in the shower to get fresh and clean and get dressed.  Usually I can make it out of the shower before Jordan is up.

Then, I get Jordan up, eat breakfast with her (usually oatmeal or a protein pancake and sometimes toast with peanut butter) and have my coffee, always with Coffeemate Vanilla Caramel creamer!!  I know it’s so unhealthy, but I love it! #dontmess

Jordan and I hang out and play until my Mom gets here around 9 or 9:30.

SILENCE

Then, I’ll head upstairs and begin my day with a 10-minute meditation.  I use the Headspace app, which offers a free trial, but then you pay a subscription rate to use it.  I like it because I enjoy the guide’s Australian accent and there are lots of different guided meditations you can use from work and performance to health and happiness and even a kids pack.  I find that when I meditate, I’m more able to calm down and relax and take things one at a time instead of feeling overwhelmed with too much to do.

AFFIRMATIONS

When I head into my office, I have my affirmations right on my desk where I can see them throughout the day.  I made a printable for you if you’d like to print these affirmations out for yourself.

VISUALIZATION

For the visualization portion, I made a simple Vision Board.  I just sat down with a stack of magazines and also culled through Pinterest (follow my pins here!) to pull images and quotes that resonated with me.  Then, I affixed them to a magnet board to keep in my office so I can easily see it.

SCRIBING

For Journaling, I’ll either jot notes in a notepad or use the One Day app, and I write for a few minutes whatever is on my mind, things I’m thankful for or special prayers I want to confide in God.

READING

Finally, I’ll read before bed.  Having something I’m looking forward to reading at night helps get me into bed at a decent hour and completes the reading part of the miracle morning.  I do sometimes read on my Kindle and if you keep the light on low, I don’t find it affects my sleep.

I created a bedtime routine to have a relaxing and calming environment in preparation for sleep.  I bought a diffuser and some lavender essential oils and turn it on before getting in bed.  James even said he loves my “steamer”!  ha!  The smell is heavenly and it truly is relaxing.  I chose this particular diffuser because it’s compact and cute (of course!) but also because it had tons of positive reviews (over 11,000) and can change colors. I don’t know much about essential oils, but I know people have lots of opinions about them! I chose one that was 100% natural and had more than 5,000 positive reviews on Amazon.

I also drink hot Peppermint Tea and keep it warm with my BFF, this coffee/tea warmer.  Because I tend to be a night owl, having this set nighttime routine really helps me unwind and look forward to bedtime.

In preparation for waking up early the next day, it’s important to get to sleep early. It’s always painful at first to wake up before you want to, but if you stick with it, your body will adjust and it will get easier!

  1. I would LOVE to know what color nail polish you are wearing in the majority of the pics! The light pink is to die for and I have been looking for a similar color that is not translucent!

  2. You make everything look so easy! Love it! Hopefully I can start working out in the AM. I usually do it in the evening. Also, girl, you have some killer shoulders. WTG! ?

  3. Hi! This post has really motivated me to not only come up with my own routine but take time for myself! Thanks for sharing!

  4. This is great inspiration (and serious morning #goals, haha!). I find myself working so late into the evening (I work from home) that I get to bed late which in turn makes me wake up later than I’d like to feel like I have a head start on the day. I just need to restructure/reprioritize because at the beginning of the year I was doing a better job of going to bed earlier/waking up earlier. I love the idea of meditating for a few minutes! ALSO – we’re coffee creamer soul sisters. 😉

  5. Loved this post! I have 3 kids (4 and younger) so making time to take care of myself is so hard but so important. Thank you for the inspiration.

  6. I read The Miracle Morning this past week. It kept coming up wherever I would look, including your blog here, so I took it as a sign! I LOVED it. And now I’m on Day 2 of the 30 day challenge. I’m not a morning person, but I love how in control of my day I am when I follow this routine! I wake up at 5am and have some me time (including yoga or HIIT for exercise) before kids are up and our crazy day starts. Thanks for posting your routine! You’ve inspired me!

  7. Ahhh, I love these types of posts! I see that you’re using Headspace-I decided to download it after reading about Carly (College Prepster) using it and I really like it, but I needed a meditation to fall asleep to…so I looked up podcasts for that and let me tell you-they’re free and they really work, I slept better last night using it than I have in a long, long time!

  8. Dear Mega ,
Thank you for this post ! Very inspiring !
I have been starting a Miracle morning Routine for 2 weeks. I can’t find you Affirmations document, I would be very grateful if you could indicate where I can find it. Following the link, I see your boards on PInteret but I don’t know where to search.
    Warm regards
    Améllie
