Easy Everyday Makeup Tutorial

Ever since I can remember, I’ve loved playing with makeup!  When I was little, I used to watch my mom get ready for work in the morning and I’d tell her, I can’t wait until I can wear makeup!  Later, when I got to high school, she used to let me make her up (including her hair) and it was so fun! I was also doing all my friends hair and makeup and even last weekend some girlfriends came over and I took turns curling their hair!

I’ve shared how I get loose waves in my hair, and now I’m excited to share with you my easy, everyday makeup routine!  Some days I only wear mascara (never leave home without it!) to give my face and skin a break, but I still feel most put together when I take a few minutes to put on some makeup each day.

This routine doesn’t take long, but makes for a good before & after! Isn’t it amazing how much better we can make ourselves look and feel with makeup?! I do believe we need to feel comfortable in our own skin and not rely on makeup to feel good about ourselves, but if it makes you feel better, then go for it!

If you feel intimidated by makeup, or not sure how to put it on, let me tell you, this tutorial is easy!  And if you want to see a video tutorial, let me know!

THE MAKEUP

This beauty makeup tutorial is is collaboration with Nordstrom and all the things I use to get prettied up can be bought there.  They have a huge, quality beauty department. I love the convenience of one-stop shopping, and if you ever want to have a professional make-up application, their pros are very skilled and knowledgable.

Lancome Dual Finish Multi-Tasking Powder Foundation â€¢ Because I don’t usually wear foundation, I like my powder to have more coverage than just very sheer.  This powder you can use dry like I do, or wet for even more coverage. I’m color Buff 2, 220C.

Urban Decay Naked Eye Shadow Palette â€¢ Although I have several eyeshadows, you can’t go wrong with this palette that has 12 bronze-hued eyeshadows in a range of textures including matte, satin, shimmer and sparkle.  For everyday, I use ‘Virgin,’ ‘Naked,’ and sometimes ‘Buck.’

MAC Eyeliner â€¢ As soon as I got old enough to get a job and buy good cosmetics, I went to the MAC counter and had a professional make-up application.  I’ve been hooked on MAC eyeliner ever since.  They go on smooth and I love their range of colors.  For everyday, I use ‘Teddy‘.

Dip Brow â€¢ To fill in your brows, I use dip brow with an angled Brow Brush . My dip brow color is ‘Soft Brown‘.

Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara â€¢ Even for everyday makeup, I like bold lashes.  This mascara gives your lashes ultra volume with just one coat. The secret is in the brush which is shaped in an S-curve that easily lets you coat every lash.

MAC Powder Blush  â€¢  Don’t forgot to add a bit of ‘Pink Swoon‘ blush to the apples of your cheeks for a youthful glow! For years I went without blush, not realizing how much better I looked with it!

MAC Lipstick â€¢ For a soft pretty pink lip color, I like ‘Pink Plaid” because it’s so fresh and beautiful, especially this time of year and throughout summer.  MAC lipstick is creamy smooth and doesn’t have any weird taste or smell.

And one more thing worth mentioning:

NeuLash â€¢ After I took off my lash extensions, my lashes were so short and damaged.  I was scared that they would never grow back, but after I started using NeuLash, my lashes started growing and are now long and strong again!  I can actually tell they’ve grown by looking, but also by where they hit on the lash curler when I curl them.  I’m always skeptical about these kinds of products, but after using it myself and seeing the results, I can tell you it works.  And the bottle lasts forever!  I put one coat on my lash line at night after I wash my face and it goes on clear and doesn’t irritate my eyes at all. I’m so thankful that this saved my lashes.  I’m always temped to get the lashes put back on because I loved the look, but I’m afraid to do it again!

EASY EVERYDAY MAKEUP TUTORIAL

I start by applying powder foundation to my entire face, making sure to get below the jawline and onto the neck so it blends.

For eyes, I sweep a light eyeshadow over the entire lid ‘Virgin’ as a base.

Then, to create more definition, I add a light taupe color ‘Naked’ in the crease in a “windshield wiper” motion with an angled brush.  If I want more effect, I’ll layer a darker color on top ‘Buck’, then blend with a blending brush.

Even for everyday, I thinly line my eyes with eyeliner, top and bottom.  I feel like it makes my eyes look more awake.

Using a smudge brush to gently smudge your eyeliner will soften the eyeliner and give you a less severe line.

One of the best things I’ve done for my face was to get my eyebrows microbladed last year.  I’ll probably go back in two months (at the one year mark) to get a touch-up because they have faded some.  I still fill my brows in with dip brow, but it’s amazing that the shape is already there and I don’t have to ‘draw’ my brows on.  The dip brow is a cream that you dip your angled brush into and then apply to your brows using short strokes.  Use a light touch because a little goes a long way!

Curling your lashes makes a world of difference and really opens up your eyes.  Then I apply one coat of mascara to the top and bottom lashes.

Next, it’s time for a light sweep of blush on the apples of the cheeks and back into the hair line. I like to use a fluffy blush brush for this.

Finally, I dab on a light lipstick ‘Pink Plaid’ to finish the look.

And there you have it! It’s a pretty easy routine and doesn’t take me much time because I’ve had lots of practice at it.  But, taking a few minutes each day to put on my makeup makes me feel so much better and ready to tackle the day!

I like this look because it’s put together and polished for anything you need to do that day.

  1. Thanks for the tips! I’ve really pared down my makeup routine over the last couple of years–trying to find drugstore products instead of high end. I use and sell Rodan + Fields for my skincare, so I really don’t need much or expensive makeup. If you know a consultant we are offering a free Lash Boost thru March 12 for new customers! 1. Thanks Melissa!! I’ve heard great things about Lash Boost and have already promised to help out a friend if I decide to use it!! Wishing you much success in your business!

  2. You are blessed to not have to wear undereye concealer!! Great simple routine. A video would be fun!

    1. Thanks to my mom for that I guess – I will add concealer when getting “glammed up” to brighten the area under my eyes for sure!! Working on a video, will keep y’all posted!

  3. I wear makeup every day – just for myself. It really does help me feel pulled together.
    Thanks for sharing!

  4. I usually have about 5 minutes to get myself ready in the mornings, and I have a similar routine. I have short, bond eyelashes, so mascara is a must! I would love to see a video tutorial, always helpful. ?

  5. I love it! Pretty simple! You have gorgeous skin. And yes, you should do a makeup routine for us one of these days.
Absolutely, I never leave home with our mascara either! Lol! I totally get your point about makeup, and feel the same way. It’s not a lack of self-esteem, neither an unhealthy vanity, it’s just a way of feeling more put together loving the skin we are in. It’s like decorating a cake. ?

  6. I love your lipstick. I shy away from lipstick because I hate how it goes onto my teeth, even if I stick my finger in the middle of my lips and/or blot it with a tissue between my lips. Am I doing something wrong?! Here is an embarrassing topic to cover, (which is also why I don’t wear lipstick often) how do you take care of any facial hair- above the lips, specifically? I feel like waxing thins the tissue there and cream to burn it away doesn’t seem to help long term. Help!

  7. Hi Megan! Do you know if Neulash darkens the color of your eyes? I’ve heard that Lastisse does, and that has made me shy away from using it or any other product like it. Thanks!

    1. Hi! I heard that Latisse does that too, but I have not experienced that with NueLash. My eyes are the same color as always! 😉

  8. First of all you are really very beautiful and I just love the way you carry your makeup. Thanks for sharing this and I must say this is very impressive guide.

  9. Love the post Megan! I am also the same age and wonder if you have started to experiment with the light cream foundations and cream blushes/bronzers (vs the powder base)? I have started to myself and found they do give a nice dewy finish but love to hear any suggestions you may have!

    1. Hi Colleen, I haven’t tried those but I know people love them because they are easy to use and blend with just your fingers. I’ll make a note to keep my eye out for my next beauty post.
