My Miracle Morning

Every year I like to challenge myself in new ways for personal growth.  In 2017, I started waking up early so that I could get my workout over and done with before my day started and I also I started meditating.  Even though I’m definitely NOT a morning person, I actually loved working out early and how it set my day up for success.  I was really good about getting up early all summer, but have slacked off toward the end of the year, so I’m ready to get back at it!

The Miracle Morning

This year, I read The Miracle Morning and am giving that a try as a way to start my day.  The goal is to wake up each day with more energy, motivation and focus to take your life to the next level. The routine includes starting with meditation or silence, but also expands on it.

It struck me right away in reading this book that, when we lie in bed in the morning, not wanting to get out of bed, we are actually sending a message to the universe that we’d rather lie there in our beds—unconscious—than consciously and actively live and create the lives we say that we want!

The author says, “When you delay waking up until you have to—meaning you wait until the last possible moment to get out of bed and start your day—consider that what you’re actually doing is resisting your life.”  That really hit home for me.  I don’t want to resist my life. I want to get after it!

So many of us do have goals and things we want to accomplish each day, but we stay up late watching bad tv, then sleep in until the last possible minute and feel rushed and hectic all day.  I get it, sometimes you just want to veg out in front of the tv, but then we have to accept those consequences.

The Miracle Morning asks the important questions: “When are you going to develop yourself into the person you need to be to create the levels of health, wealth, happiness, success, and freedom that you truly want and deserve? When are you going to actually live your life instead of numbly going through the motions looking for every possible distraction to escape reality? What if your reality—your life—could finally be something that you can’t wait to be conscious for?”

So, basically, with The Miracle Morning, you set aside some time in the morning to go through a routine that taps into the Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, and Spiritual parts that make up every human being.

The Physical includes things like your body, health, and energy.

The Intellectual incorporates your mind, intelligence, and thoughts.

The Emotional takes into account your emotions, feelings, and attitudes.

The Spiritual includes intangibles such as your spirit, soul, and the unseen higher power that oversees all.

The Miracle Morning Routine consists of 6 daily rituals “SAVERS” : Silence, Affirmation, Visualization, Exercise, Reading, Scribing (writing).

Silence

The first one is silence, which could be meditation, prayer, reflection, deep breathing, or simply sitting in gratitude.  I use the headspace app with guided meditations and really look forward to it.  I find that I’m more focused and relaxed when I meditate.  But, it’s easy to get caught up in the rest of your day and let your mind go a million miles a minute, as opposed to being present during every task you’re engaged in.  Setting little ‘be present reminders’ throughout my day on my iPhone helps bring me back into focus.

Affirmation

You can use affirmations to start programming yourself to be confident and successful in everything you do, simply by repeatedly telling yourself who you want to be, what you want to accomplish and how you are going to accomplish it. With enough repetition, your sub-conscious mind will begin to believe what you tell it, act upon it, and eventually manifest it in your reality.

You can organize your affirmations according to the areas that you most want to focus on improving, such as Health/Fitness, Mindset, Emotions, Finances, Relationships, Spirituality, etc. Begin with clarifying, in writing, what you really want—your ideal vision for yourself and your life—in each area.

“I am in control of my destiny! I deserve to be a success! I am committed to doing everything I must do today to reach my goals and create the life of my dreams!”

Use affirmations to improve your health, finances, relationships, overall happiness, confidence, as well as any and all beliefs, mindsets and habits that needed an upgrade.  Don’t worry about feeling silly at first or making your affirmations too grand! They can be as big as you want them to be!

Visualization

Visualization is the process of imagining exactly what you want to achieve or attain, and then mentally rehearsing what you’ll need to do to achieve or attain it.

Visualize your major goals, deepest desires, and most exciting, would-totally-change-my-life-if-I-achieved-them dreams. See, feel, hear, touch, taste, and smell every detail of your vision. Involve all of your senses to maximize the effectiveness of your visualization. The more vivid you make your vision, the more compelled you’ll be to take the necessary actions to make it a reality.

I’m going to make a vision board soon and hang it in my office so I have visual reminders to look at all the time!

Exercise

When you exercise for even a few minutes every morning it significantly boosts your energy, enhances your health, improves self-confidence and emotional well-being, and enables you to think better and concentrate longer. You know that if you want to maintain good health and increase your energy, you must exercise consistently.  But it’s easy to make excuses as to why we don’t exercise. Just start doing it and you will LOVE how you feel! That will be motivation to stick with it!

(I just got these leggings because it’s been so cold here! I love them so much, espeically the high waist that tucks you in!  But the design is super cool too with moto detail and mesh panels.  They fit TTS.  The sports bra has a cute keyhole back and I sized down to a Small.  I’m 34D and usually wear a Medium sports bra.)

Reading

The fastest way to achieve everything you want is to model successful people who have already achieved it. With an almost infinite amount of books available on every topic, there are no limits to the knowledge you can gain through daily reading.  I like to read on my Kindle and Eat That Frog is a great, quick read on productivity to start with it you’ve never read it!

Scribing

The Scribing element of your Miracle Morning enables you to document your insights, ideas, breakthroughs, realizations, successes, and lessons learned, as well as any areas of opportunity, personal growth, or improvement.  I usually take a few minutes to write out a prayer or goal for the day.  It only takes a short time but helps me prioritize my intentions for the day.

The Miracle Morning in 6 Minutes

You can customize and choose how much time to commit to your own miracle morning.  There’s this handy six minute guide in the book for days when you have less than 10 minutes!

Minute One – wake up peacefully with a smile on your face and, instead of rushing into your hectic day, sit in purposeful silence.

Minute Two – read your daily affirmations that remind you of your unlimited potential and your most important priorities.

Minute Three – Close your eyes or look at your vision board and see the day going perfectly, you enjoying your work, family, self and accomplishing everything you want to accomplish for that day.  Get a clear picture of yourself full of energy, healthy and strong.

Minute Four – Write some things you’re grateful for, proud of, and the results you’re committed to creating for that day.

Minute Five – Grab a self-help pook and read for a minute.  You can learn a new idea and incorporate that into your work or relationships.

Minute Six – Move your body.  Stand up, stretch, do some sit-ups or push-ups.

THREE TIPS FOR WAKING UP EARLY

Finally, I know it’s hard to wake up early.  It can actually suck in that first minute when your alarm goes off!  Here are a few tips that can really help though!

1)  Set your intentions before going to bed.  Your bedtime brain is smarter than your wake up brain- listen to it!

2) Move the alarm clock across the room so that you actually have to get out of bed to turn it off.  Once you’re up, it’s less likely that you’ll get back into bed because you’re already up!

3) Use lightbulbs that you can set to turn on at a certain time.  It’s way easier to wake up and get out of bed when the room is bright!

I hope this is helpful!  I’d love to hear how you start YOUR day!

  2. Great post! Love the ideas you have shared. I definitely want to read the book now. This is a perfect post for the new year!

  3. I find these sorts of topics and routines so interesting! And I know personally that I definitely feel better, more productive, and less rushed when I get up early to workout and have some extra time before work.

I would be interested in the break down of what a typical Miracle Morning looks like for you. Like what time you get up, how much time you spend doing each part, etc.!

    1. Hi Emily! I plan to do a Part 2 that gets more into it, I didn’t want the first post to be too long or overwhelming! I love hearing about other people’s routines too!

  4. Hi! I love following your blog and Instagram, and although I don’t normally comment, I feel I have to share that I also read this book last year and started waking up earlier. And I am NOT a morning person at all! I am a perfect example of how there is hope for those that feel they just can’t be a morning person! I have been working out consistently for about a year, but before I read this book, I would try to get my workout in at the end of my work days and I was left tired, unmotivated and many times would skip my workout. Now, I get up an hour earlier than I used to for work, 4:45! I get my workout in, read my Bible and devotionals, and this year I am going to start journaling through a Write the Word journal. As a working mom, it is so nice to get in all the things that are important for ME before I wake the kids up for school. It has helped me physically, mentally, and spiritually! Thanks for the extra motivation! 🙂

  5. I love this post. I have been trying to start my day earlier and this sounds like a great way to do it that’s not “Ughhh… I don’t like getting up early”… because you are right, thinking like that does impact the rest of your day and not in a good way!

  6. This is one of my favorite posts you have shared! It is definitely a keeper – I love the thought about how when we stay up late and then stay in bed, we are resisting our life. I want to love my love and be excited about, not resist it!

  7. Thank you so much for the wonderful post! I just started subscribing about a month ago and love it so far. I am a business owner and hoping to make 2018 my best yet. Already ordered Eat That Frog! Keep the great advice, fashion and decor coming!

    1. Thanks for letting me know! Eat That Frog is one of my old faves! It’s a quick read and always gets me motivated for my day! Wishing you a super successful 2018!

  8. Love the post – I am the type of person that functions better if I get up and go to workout at 8! I workout with a small group, so if I am a slacker, my trainer will “call me out”! This past year was very hard for me. My mom became ill in February, so I went home to take care of her during her illness. Long story short – thought I was going to be in Dallas for a couple of weeks, but I ended up being there from February-June and unfortunately my mom passed in June. I always knew it would be hard when I lost her, but I had no idea the toll it would take on me emotionally, physically and mentally. I wrapped up all her estate and came home in August – since then I feel lost and off track. I am going to try the Miracle Morning and hopefully 2018 will bring me some peace and clarity to my life! Love all that you do for us ladies! Keep up the good work!!!

  9. Such a great post! Thank you! I really need to get myself in the right frame of mind this year! I already had the headspace app so I will actually start using it! I am a working mom of 2 teenage boys and never have a lot of time to exercise. One of my goals is to get up early to exercise!

  10. I really enjoyed reading this post! It’s motivating me to get with it, get out of bed…..just as soon as my holiday is over! Now to get my husband and teen daughter to do it with me…….. love your blog, by the way

  11. I have loved your blog for years! Thanks for introducing me to Miracle Morning. I am a SAHM with 4 kids, and this has truly made a big shift in my days. Love all of your organizational and fitness tips.
