In the Dressing Room

Hi friends, hoo-ray for Friday!!  Are you looking forward to it as much as I am?!  With those couple recent trips, I feel like I need a weekend to just sit and do nothing!  I love getting to do those fun things, but in my old age, it seems like takes me longer to recuperate.  Do you feel that way too?

But there’s already something super fun and exciting on the horizon that I couldn’t wait to share with you! And the great thing is- you’re invited to a front row seat!  After bearing with me and allll the scaredy-cat nerves I had before speaking at the intimate mom’s group, you’ll never guess what courage I’ve mustered up for this next one!

With Fall in full swing, I’m due for a Ladies’ Night Out and I’m sure you are, too!  Let’s meet at Sugar Land Town Square next Thursday, October 19th for Project OneWay!  I had to ask what Project OneWay was too (and I get tongue tied every time I say it out loud!), and turns out, it’s a one-woman fashion show featuring all the hottest Fall looks from shops like Altar’d State, Anything Bling, Charming Charlie, LOFT, Motherhood Maternity and more.  That’s right- I’ll be the “One Woman” #yikes! sharing all of these fantastic styles on stage and I’d love to see your friendly faces there! It’s a sponsored partnership with Sugar Land Town Square and I know it will be a ton of fun!

The event starts at 6:30 p.m. with FREE admission and includes one drink ticket per attendee over 21 (will need that for sure!), cake pops from Sweet Boutique, and live jazz performances.  We’ll also be raffling off items from various retailers with all proceeds benefiting Dress for Success Houston’s Harvey Relief Fund.  I’m honored to be part of something like this that is giving back to our great community.

I hope you and your girlfriends can make it!  It’s sure to be a good time and I’d love to meet you in person!

Now onto today’s Dressing Room post! For fit reference, keep in mind I’m super short, just 5’1, about 105, 108 pounds.  I often wear petite or size down for the best fit for my frame, but I’m also busty (34D) with ‘athletic’ i.e. bigger legs, so that can be a challenging combo.

Fall fashion - dressing room try on, white cable knit sweater dress #fallfashion #sweaterdress

White Sweater Dress XSP â€¢  Boots  â€¢ Cap XS

Let’s start with one of my very favorites from this whole post- this cable knit sweater dress.  I thought it looked a little boxy on the hanger, but as soon as I put it on – #swoon!!  It’s absolutely adorable on and the bell sleeves are a fun addition!  The quality is great and it’s not at all itchy (no wool in it!).  It’s slim fitting, but not tight and I cannot wait to wear it!  Even though it might be awhile, I wanted to share it with you now before it sells out and you’re crying in the corner asking yourself whyyyyy you didn’t pick it up when you had the chance!

I also got these amazing knee high boots in the mail, so I tried them on with the dress and black cap to tie it all together.

White Sweater Dress XSP â€¢  Boots  â€¢ Cap XS (TTS)

It might be weird to call boots ‘delicious’ but that’s the first thing that came to mind when I saw these!  I loooove everything about them for a sassy black, high-heeled knee high boot.  I’m 5’1 and they hit me at the top of my knee.  The cut is awesome (you can easily sit and walk) and I dig the slouchy style- it’s not too wide and not too tight on your leg.  Of course they will be great with jeans, but I love showing them off with a skirt or dress.

And for fun, I really like this cap!  I got the XS and it fit just perfect, but I could probably size up to a small and it would be more comfortable- there’s no breathing room in the XS.  I even measured my head for you, which is something I can’t say I’ve ever done before- it was 21 1/2 inches.  It definitely runs TTS, so had I measured before I ordered, I would’ve went with small.

Fall fashion - dressing room try on, ripped jeans and v-neck sweater #fallfashion

V-Neck Sweater XXS • Jeans 25

One of my favorite, reasonably priced brands of jeans – BLANKNYC – just came out with a new dark wash pair of skinny jeans and I give them a thumbs up!  BTW, James says you should NEVER give thumbs down, only thumbs up!  #sweetkid

Sizing: I got my normal size 25 and they were snug and first, but loosened up a bit as I wore them throughout the day, but didn’t become saggy.  These are supposed to be ‘ankle’ jeans, that are cropped just above the ankle, but on a shorty like me, they were long and I have to cuff them! The rips on the jeans are just right too.

V-Neck Sweater XXS

If only our weather would cooperate, I could actually wear this sweater I’m crazy for.  I love a simple v-neck and you can wear this one with a mini front tuck or keep it out.  It comes in more colors too.

Fall fashion - flare sleeve top with skinny jeans and booties

Slim Bell Sleeve Tee XS •  Dark Wash Skinny Jeans 25 â€¢ Booties 20% off â€¢ Bar Necklace

I’m all about the pretty plum color in this top!  It’s slim fitting and would look amazing tucked into your bootcut jeans.  Although flared sleeves aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, the flare on this top is slight, so you shouldn’t have to worry about sleeves in your lunch!

Fall fashion - dressing room try on grey cold shoulder sweater

Cold Shoulder Sweater XSP • Skinny Jeans 25 â€¢ Bar Necklace

This isn’t your Grandpa’s grey cable knit sweater!  I love the slouchy fit and v-neck combined with the sexy cold shoulder.  Everyone has great shoulders, so why not show them off?!  The good news is, you can still wear your regular bra with it!

Fall Fashion - dressing room try on - grey wrap sweater

Wrap Sweater XXS • Skinny Jeans 25 â€¢ Bar Necklace â€¢ Booties 20% off â€¢ Watch

I loved the fit and feel of this wrap sweater!  It’s demure enough to wear to work, but also sassy enough for date night.  If you are very busty though, it might accentuate the girls a little too much.  You could also wear a pretty camisole underneath.

Fall Fashion - dressing room try on, v-neck sweater with tie back

Tie Back Sweater XXSP • Dark Wash Skinny Jeans 25 • Bar Necklace â€¢ Booties 20% off

I know this sweater doesn’t look like much from the front, but it’s kind cool because it feels slightly spongy if that makes sense, and it has the cutest ribbon tie in the back!  And who doesn’t need a simple, black v-neck sweater in their life?!  This one would be perfect for lots of Fall skirts.

V-Neck Sweater XXS

I was on the fence about this sweater at first because I wasn’t sure what was happening with these tight sleeves, but the redeeming quality is that it’s suuuuuper soft and snuggly!  I think I should have sized up from XXS to XS (it’s junior sizing) so that it would’ve fit more tunic-like, as the photo online shows.  The sleeves are meant to be scrunched up.  It grew on me more and more as I had it on- I’m a texture junkie and the softness can’t be beat!

It also looks great with this lightweight fringe-edged scarf.  Love that slate blue in it!

Scarf under $20

I feel like I waited FOREVER for these slides to come in.  The problem was I ordered a 6 at first, but they were too small (short) and I had to return them and order a 6.5.  I’m usually a 6 or 6.5 for fit reference. Once I found my perfect size, I loooove them!  How can you not with the adorable bow tie?!

They are really comfortable and easy to walk in and will save you from heels on your long office days or errand-running days.  I think they were so popular that sizes are now limited- although they come in a ton of fun colors.

The colorful embroidered flowers on this waffle stitch sweater definitely give it life!  It’s a heavier knit though, so save it for your cold weather days!

Preppy Fall fashion - gingham button down top with skinny jeans and booties

Gingham Boy Shirt 0P • Dark Wash Skinny Jeans 25 â€¢ Booties â€¢ Watch

Raise your hand if you can never get enough gingham?!  Me too!  This one is crinkle material and so versatile.  You could dress it up for work with a skirt and heels, or throw on your jeans, sneakers and ball cap for the weekends.  I also love a collared gingham shirt worn under a sweater so you get that pop of pattern peeking out in the collar and sleeves.

Fall fashion - dressing room try on, military vest and plaid infinity scarf

Plaid Scarf 40% off • Military Vest XXS • Dark Wash Skinny Jeans 25

LOFT is killing the scarf game lately!  This infinity style plaid/gingham combo came home with me, but I can’t find it online yet, so I’m linking a similar style here- 40% off!

Fall fashion - dressing room try on, patch sleeve blazer

Patch Sleeve Blazer XSP â€¢ Dark Wash Skinny Jeans 25 â€¢ Booties 20% off

I came thisclose to purchasing this blazer, but I kept thinking since I work from home, I might not get as many opportunities to wear it.  If you work in an office, I’d say it’s a must-have because it instantly polishes off your jeans and can also work over a dress or skirt and with pants.  The heather grey herringbone pattern is chic and the patched sleeves add a fun touch.  I even love this with jeans and a simple tee and booties for a night out.  And get this, it’s machine washable!

Fall Fashion - dressing room try on grey sweater tunic

Stripe Panel Sweater SP • Skinny Jeans 25 • Bar Necklace â€¢ Booties 20% off â€¢ Watch

I’m so smitten with this kittens-soft fabric in these type of tops.  Nevermind all the wrinkles in the one I’m wearing, but the A-line cut and 3/4 sleeves are a nice combo.  It comes in lots of colors and it regular and petite.

Honey, it’s time for a long overdue date night and I’m wearing this sweater!  I love the style and the longer length.  Would look great with black jeans too!

Fall Fashion - dressing room try on - cowl neck tunic

Cowl Neck Tunic Sweater XSP 40% off • Skinny Jeans 25 • Booties 20% off

This top didn’t look like much on the hanger, but I really liked it on.  I could totally see running around on the weekends in it with leggings and boots and maybe a scarf for an added pop of color and pattern. The cowl neck is loose, so you won’t feel claustrophobic in it.  Bonus that it’s under $30 now!

Fall fashion - dressing room try on, striped flare sleeve sweater

Flare Sleeve Sweater XS 40% off •  Dark Wash Skinny Jeans 25

This top is adorable!  It’s kind of hard to tell from the picture, but it has a cool waffle knit texture and the sleeves are that ‘bracelet length’ that hit just above where your watch goes.  And do I even have to mention #stripes!?!

Fall fashion - dressing room try on, chambray top

Chambray Top XSP 40% off • Dark Wash Skinny Jeans 25 â€¢ Bar Necklace â€¢ Booties 20% off â€¢ Watch

I’m always a fan of white jeans and chambray tops, and of course you can still wear white in the winter, just add boots or booties.  I’d love to see this top with black jeans too.  They higher neckline is the perfect backdrop for a statement necklace too.

Fall fashion - dressing room try on, red flare sleeve sweater

Flare Sleeve Sweater XS 40% off • Dark Wash Skinny Jeans 25 â€¢  Bar Necklace â€¢ Booties 20% off

This pretty shade of red made me instantly think of Christmas and red Starbucks cups!  It has a moderate flare sleeve and a nice thick cable knit and just sooo festive.  Which reminds me, we really should get on those Christmas card photos . . . .

Fall fashion - dressing room try on, striped skirt and flare sleeve sweater

Wrap Skirt 00P â€¢Flare Sleeve Sweater XS • Booties 20% off

I’ve got allllll the Fall feels with this colorblock skirt and the combo of red/pink/orange and brown!   The 00P fit me perfectly, but this sweater isn’t what I’d wear it with because it’s too chunky.  It would look better with a knit top tucked in.  As the weather cools, it would also look great with brown stockings and booties.

It’s confusing, but ’smoked cocoa bean’ is this striped skirt pictured.  And it’s 30% off!

Embroidered Bell Sleeve Sweater XXSP 40% off • Dark Wash Skinny Jeans 25 â€¢ Booties 20% off

You will be seeing lots of embroidery this season, on everything from sweaters to jeans to bags and booties.  I like how it amps up the fun factor for this otherwise rather plain grey sweater.

Fall fashion dressing room - comfy burnout sweatshirt

Burnout Sweatshirt SP • Dark Wash Skinny Jeans 25

This is the kind of top I live in most days if I’m staying in all day, just working from home, because it’s sooo freaking soft and on the thinner side- so I don’t get too hot.  I wear it year round with shorts in the summer, but it’s also been known to come bed with me as pajamas!  You’ll really like this one, trust me! p.s. it comes in multiple colors.

Fall fashion - dressing room try on, long sleeve shirt dress

Payton Cinched Waist Dress XS

I grabbed this dress last minute when I was looking for a backup option for the Bloom Workshop.  Although I didn’t end up wearing it for that conference, I really liked it for a night out.  It feels nice and silky smooth on and I appreciate that there’s a tiny stitch at the chest, keeping it from becoming too exposed.  It’s got a collar and cinched waist too. #thumbsupJames

I know it looks black with white stripes in the pic, but it’s actually dark navy with maroon and white stripes.  It also comes in solids.

Fall fashion - dressing room try on, velour wrap dress

Ruched Velour Wrap Dress XS

Warning to any of you who initially try this dress on at Nordstrom- the lighting did NO FAVORS to it there.  It looks terrible in the fitting room, but when I got home and tried it on in natural light, it was sooooo much prettier!  The color is a blush pink/champagne and it’s actually a great option for a Fall soiree.  It feels amazing on, and I know this is weird but, you want to keep touching it because #velour!

Fall fashion - dressing room try on, blush pink sweater dress with tall boots

Sweater Dress XXS •  Knee High Boots

I’m also smitten with this blush pink sweater dress. The v-neck gives you a little exposure, but the mock neck gives it an unexpected twist.  You can wear this alone or belted or with a scarf/jacket combo.  Lots of options for this one and under $50!  I’m 5’1 and it hits just above the knee, the reviewers 5’5 and 5’6 said it’s not too short.  It’s also not too snug or too baggy, rather, just skims your body very nicely.

Fall fashion - dressing room try on, ruched tank dress

Ruched Body-Con Tank Dress XS â€¢ Booties 20% off

Y’all have heard me rave about this little magic ruched dress, so I wanted to show it to you on, without any cardigan covering it up- but it also looks so good with a cardi!  It was in my October Loves and here’s what I had to say about it:

A steal of a dress (only $56!) is this tank dress with side ruching that I promise you, you will look amazing in!  It looks so good on all body types- even expectant mamas!  I wore it while I was pregnant with Jordan and felt amazing in it! The body contouring secret is in the side ruching that is both flattering and forgiving.  The little criss cross front is artfully placed so that your legs look long and lean.  Balanced against the higher neckline, the dress won’t make you feel too exposed.

The dress can be worn year round, in the Spring and Summer with sandals and wedges or for weekends with sneakers and a ball cap.  In the Fall, I love it paired with booties and a cardigan.  It also comes in long sleeves!
