Fall Basics Outfit #1

Yesterday, I showed you 10 basic pieces that you can mix and match for Fall, and today, I’m taking two of the pieces (the jeans and long cardigan) and showing how they look on.  I’ve gotten lots of questions about that cardigan because it is long and my short friends (hi!) are wondering if they can pull it off.  I say YES, because I’m 5’1 and I didn’t think it was too long on me, although it hits me just above the knee.

The longer length works with the thinner material, so there’s no extra bulk. It’s a lightweight linen blend that is classy and sophisticated because of it’s sleekness.  This isn’t your lounge-around-the house cozy cardigan, but this one is more classy and can even be called professional if you wear it over a skirt or dress.

I’d say it’s a definite Must Have for your Fall wardrobe!  I have it in tan too and it looks as pictured on the website, a light neutral tan color without leaning pink or looking muddy.

Fit:  TTS- It comes in both regular and petite.  I’m wearing XSP.

I wanted to give you a peek at the peplum cami underneath.  The polka dot version is currently sold out, but it’s 50% off in solid.  I like the looser, peplum style and how it slightly flies away from your body so that’s it’s non body-conscious.  Of course, I like them on their own, but as we get into Fall, they are great underneath a cardigan.

To maximize the leg line in these bootcut jeans, I usually tuck my top in, or wear a top that’s on the shorter side (like this one).  In doing so, your eye sees the total length of jean, as opposed to cutting you off at the hips.

Another secret is to wear a pointy-toe heel with your bootcut jeans because they will also elongate your legs. If I were to wear a bootie with this jean, I’d go for the closed toe because the peep toe doesn’t have that same leg-lengthening effect.

And since we’re talking Fall, I had to pair a plaid scarf (similar) with this outfit!  I’m all for a scarf for adding that pop of color since I tend to wear mostly neutrals and solids.  But, here, you most definitely can mix your dots/stripes/plaids together!

Finally, I know you’ve heard me rave about this reversible tote for years, but it’s just because it’s that good!  Very sturdy and well made and just the right size for being useful but not huge.

When I went to link it for you here, my jaw about hit the floor when I saw the new color combinations it’s out in now!  Check out the gold/ivory and the slate blue combo.   These make great gifts too.  I gave my MIL this black/tan one as a Christmas gift last year!

  1. I can’t tell you how much clothes I have bought since following you….I love your style. You are the sweetest and love how you make your readers feel. You rock!!

  2. Megan, I know you had your brows microbladed and I I love the way they look. Your posts indicated that you liked them and had some touch ups to do. I was wondering if you still (now that they’ve healed/had touch ups) liked them and would recommend doing it to others. I’m like 80% sure I want to jump and would appreciate your feedback. Thanks!

    1. I love them soooo much Yvette! I wish I did it years ago! I still fill them in a little, but that’s just my personal preference. I should do an updated post!
