This & That 10.23.17

How about them Astros?!!  We’re going to the WORLD SERIES!!!! Cue the confetti!!!  We let out a collective cheer when the Astros clinched it and everyone is just so excited for this thrilling news! We had to cheer quietly since Jordan was asleep, but we still cheered! 😉 Our whole town is beyond excited and overwhelmed with emotion, especially after all the heartache of Hurricane Harvey.  It’s good news that is helping heal our wounded city. #HoustonStrong

GIMME ALL THE PUMPKINS

On Friday, my Mom and I took Jordan to a small pumpkin patch near our house and let her run among the pumpkins for the first time.  Last year, she wasn’t quite walking yet, so this was all new for her!  It’s crazy how much changes in just a year!
Sweater SP •  Jeans 0P  • Similar Booties
Of course, it takes a million pictures to get a semi-decent one, but who’s counting?!

I also dressed her in the cutest pair of cowboy boots, but she kicked them off and wouldn’t let me put them back on!  This one is stubborn, I tell ya!  Some battles aren’t worth fighting, ya know?
And it’s funny because, when I was around James age, I remember sitting on the closed toilet seat and my Dad washing my feet in the bathtub at the end of a long summer day when I had been running around outside barefoot.
We bought a boatload of pumpkins at that pumpkin patch, but I needed more for some home decor I’m having photographed today! We stopped by Trader Joe’s and they have the cutest little display of pumpkins outside!
And look, Grandma brought her rainboots since it looked like rain and actually got them on! 😉

Big thanks to the lady who walked by as I was snapping these pics and made Jordan giggle!  Her little gap toothed grin kills me!

But would you believe that we were in swimsuits just last week?!  That’s Houston Fall for ya! That was an impromptu trip to Galveston when James had a day off school and I’m so glad we took advantage of that opportunity!  It was our official adieu to Summer, and a good one!

A FEW NEW THINGS

I figure here is a good place to share some things that arrived recently because sometimes mirror selfie shots are the most relatable way to share how the things look in real life!
Loft crocheted top with jeans, cute Fall outfit
Top SP (could’ve sized down to XSP)

This cable knit sweater gets is perfect for our in-between weather right now.  It’s the cable knit sweater we want to wear now, but short sleeves, so a great combo!

Lace blouse Loft with jeans and knee high boots  Lace Top SP • Jeans 0P • Tall Boots

I love the romantic style of a lace top and this one has a slight flare sleeve, but it’s 3/4 sleeve, so no worries about it getting in your way.  You can wear it tucked or untucked and I’m wearing a nude cami underneath.
GAP denim dress
Denim Dress 0P (on Sale)
I’m also smitten with this denim dress.  It’s nice and thick with a little bit of stretch and the cut is high at the neck, but nips in at the waist.  It would also be cute with a long sleeve top underneath with the sleeves pushed up and booties or with a cardigan.
I don’t come home to gifted packages all that often, so when I do, it’s a rare treat.  And if it’s something I really like, it’s even better!  Social Threads sent me a top and infinity scarf and both are super cute! I’ve already worn the top last weekend!
Fall Fashion - plaid peplum top and ripped skinny jeans with booties
Plaid Peplum Top XS • Jeans 0P  • Booties
Isn’t that navy and red plaid pretty and y’all know I’m crazy for 3/4 length sleeves!  The peplum puts it over the edge for me because that feminine detail is different than your basic plaid button-down.

They also sent me this gorgeous Infinity Scarf.  I had one similar years ago and either lost it or gave it away, but I’ve been missing it ever since!  I’m so glad to finally have a great replacement for it!  And it’s only $28!
Social Threads is offering you $15 off your $100 order with code: HONEY15 (One use per customer, valid until October 27.  FREE shipping on any purchase.)
Definitely also check out:  Hello Weekend pullover, Tweed Ruffle Jacket, and the wrap style sweater (wear it with this lacey bralette!)
And while browsing online this weekend, I fell hard for this pink, tan and grey infinity scarf!  I love that combination of colors together and it’s only $24!

I also found another (under $50) cardigan for you to love!  This style is open with pockets and ribbed cuffs.  It also comes in a ‘brown’ that looks more dusty pink online and a gorgeous deep burgundy. It’s on the lightweight side, so it’ll be a great layering piece.
under $50 cardigan
And where have I been?!  Did I not realize that my very favorite cozy cardigan comes in a short robe and a  long robe?! I swear I may never leave my house again!
Barefoot Dreams long robe
But if you do have Fall and holiday parties or weddings coming up, I’ve got two dresses that will have you party ready in no time!
The top fit and flare style dress is universally flattering, but this one is on the edgy side with the pattern in the crochet and the sleeves/hem and mock neck. You can’t go wrong with this one!
fall party dress

On the bottom is a sassy spaghetti strap dress with a more open neckline and midi-length.  It comes in lots of colors and is under $100!  Just YES!!!  Most reviewers say it runs small, so you might want to size up.  If I’m unsure, I order 2 sizes and return (FREE and with a prepaid shipping label) the one that doesn’t fit.

PROJECT ONEWAY

Finally, I couldn’t wait to share the ‘behind-the scenes’ at the fashion show I did last week at Sugar Land Towne Square!  The Project OneWay fashion show was one of the most challenging and crazy things I’ve done since I started blogging.  It was a ‘one-woman’ fashion show, where I changed in and out of clothes onstage for a 45-minutes, all the while talking about what I was wearing and how to mix and match the pieces!
It was a ton of work to rehearse (I wanted to be as prepared as possible since it was in front of a live audience), but I realized that I LOVE to do this kind of thing!  It’s really so much fun and one of the best parts was getting to meet my blog readers after the show!  We got to chat and take pictures and hug in person- it was awesome!
The whole thing went off seamlessly and I have to thank the team I worked with and Sugar Land Towne square for being such gracious hosts. Their outdoor venue is the perfect place to get together with your friends and family and go unwind and eat at one of the nice restaurants and then do some shopping!

Before the show, they set me up with Sugar Land Salon & Spa glam quad Kay-cie on make-up and Kaley refreshed my hair.  It’s always a treat getting to sit back and relax while the professionals work their magic!

Other than singing in my church choir, I don’t think I’ve had to speak into a microphone for years.  It’s a little intimidating to say the least, and no one likes to hear themselves!

Below are some of the pieces I wore during the fashion show from Altar’d State, Anything Bling, Charming Charlie, Eye TrendsLOFT, Luggage & Leather, Mann EyeMotherhood Maternity, The Collective, Revolution Studio – but that doesn’t include the shoes, bags, glasses and accessories!  It was a lot to memorize and talk about, let alone change in and out of ‘gracefully’!

I don’t have the video back yet, but here are some still shots that our photographer, L Frederick Hinojosa, captured.
There were 100 seats that ended up being filled and people standing!
Selfies all around!
I chatted with this sweet pair afterwards (grandma and baby girl just a little younger than Jordan!)  I got to hold her and get a picture with her!
This threesome of gorgeous ladies was awesome (too bad I didn’t get a pic with my phone of all of their faces)!  I got to chat with them about their blog, Bringing Home the Bubbly.  They are three girlfriends, working professionals who started a blog to chronicle challenges at both home and office.  And they’re funny, but also talk about the serious stuff.  Go check them out!
And here are a few snapshots from my time on stage!  I swear it felt like 10 minutes, but it was 45!

I didn’t get pics of every look, but I certainly had my favorites from the collection.  This leopard coat was dreamy on!  It’s soft and furry and luxurious with a statement collar and flare sleeves. I love it over a dress for making a statement as you enter a party or with black pants or even jeans and boots. It got a ton of “oohs and ahhs” from the audience!

(You’ll see more of this dress soon in a Work to Weekend post!)

The fashion show featured lots of cardigans and one of my favorites was this long fuzzy white cardigan with pockets.  It’s snuggly soft and the texture reminds me of snow falling softly.  In Houston, a ‘snowy’ cardigan is about as close as we’ll ever get to the real thing!

And this vest version of a long cardigan was great in person. Even though it’s super long, I still really liked it and the fact that it didn’t have sleeves and I could easily reach the pockets made me feel like it wasn’t too long on me.

So funny that you already saw me try this marbled sweater on in a Dressing Room post, and I liked it as much the second time around!

And this red sweater with slight bell sleeves.  This one has me already longing for red Starbuck’s cups!

HALLOWEEN

Jordan is going to be a ballerina this year for Halloween and I’ve had some questions about where I got her costume, so this is for you!
Tutu Dress (2-4) This dress is the cutest!!  It’s a real ballerina leotard with tutu as opposed to a ‘costume’ and the quality is great! She’s 20 months and, surprisingly, the size 2-4 fit her pretty well, although the shoulder straps are a little loose, but not falling off.  It fits great through the body but we’ll have to take it off if she needs a diaper change since there’s no snaps underneath.
Balleria Slippers – haven’t received yet, and I got her Tights at Old Navy.
Speaking of Halloween, somebody better get these away from me before I make myself sick!  I seriously cannot stop eating them!  I picked them up at Trader Joe’s when we stopped for pumpkins and they are sooooo dangerously good!  I make my own toffee during the holidays, but this is just as good!

Man Travels to Foreign Land

Finally, I was having some blog issues last week (I swear I love/hate technology!), so if you missed my darling hubby’s post, definitely check it out!  Just don’t read it while you’re drinking coffee, lest you spit it out onto your cute outfit like Gina did!  😉 And for those of you that read it and left kind comments, he’s read every one and enjoys the heck out of ’em!
Phew!  That was a lot, especially for a Monday!
Hope y’all have a great week!

  1. Cute! Are you guys gonna take family photos this fall? Any recommendations on outfits for the family? I’m stumped!

    1. Hi Suzanne, no Fall family pics and probably just the kids for Christmas. But, I say find something that YOU look and feel great in and then get the family to coordinate with that. If you feel great and are comfortable, you’ll be more relaxed in the pics! Also, just coordinate colors, but you don’t have to match exactly- it’s okay to add patterns, not just solid colors. And if this is a picture that is going to be framed and hung in your home, consider how it will look year round!

  2. Congrats on your win – so exciting! And I think you might have just given me a new obsession with Social Threads. I hadn’t heard of it before — so cute! That plaid top is darling. Have a happy Monday!

  3. Your one-woman fashion show was fantastic! We loved meeting you after the show – it was so sweet of you to stick around to say hi to everyone! Now we just need to snag one of those leopard coats (and hope for colder weather)! We will keep an eye out for future events you host around town!

  4. I love your This and That posts. So glad you started doing them. Congratulations on your successful fashion show. You were brave. Can’t wait to see Jordan in her ballerina costume. She’s going to be adorable. And James is so cute as Michael Jackson. Have a nice day! (Oh, and thanks for the toffe candy recommendation?)

    1. That candy is dangerous!! I have all of Jordan’s costume together now- can’t wait to show you! And MJ is seriously the cutest- he’s been practicing his moonwalk!

  5. What a fun event! You look amazing 🙂 And I’m glad to see I’m not the only one obsessed with those TJ’s toffee chips. I have to put blinders on when I walk past them, they’re so good!

  6. I love the look of the long white cardigan with all black, however I have a question. How do you keep the black from being full of white fuzzies all day long? I get so frustrated that by the time I get to work and under florescent lights, it looks messy. Any way around it?

  7. The Project One Way event sounds like so much fun, and I bet you crushed it! I wish I could have attended it! It’s so great when we push ourselves out of our comfort zone a bit and then end up loving what we try! I think every mall in Houston should hire you to do this, such awesome marketing! Or even just Nordstrom, somebody email them quick, wouldn’t that be so amazing, having an in-store fashion show each season?

    1. I’d totally do it again, it ended up being so much fun once I just relaxed. It really is a good way to show people the clothes- I know lots of them went shopping right after!

  8. Congrats on the speaking engagement! It looks like it was a lot of fun. Please share color of lipstick and lip liner that you are wearing on the very first picture (pumpkin patch). It looks awesome on you!
    Thank you
    Gina
