September Loves

We are getting a tiny taste of Fall of here and couldn’t be happier about it!  If you know Houston and the south, we endure the dog days of summer and their brutal temps, so when we dip into the 80s, it’s a welcome change and a promise that Fall is coming!  Bring on the sweaters and boots and Pumpkin Spice Lattes!  For most of you!  I still prefer my tall, nonfat, light whip, white mocha. 😉

Last month kicked off a new series, Monthly Loves, where I share what I’m loving for the month, with the aim to highlight fun and fabulous things I swear by and think you’ll like too, some things I might want to try, great deals, and under $50 finds.  All perfectly appropriate for the flavor of each month!

Smashbox Lip Color

Over the summer, I started experimenting with bolder, bright lip colors (y’all always asked me about ‘Baja Bound’ seen here) which is this Smashbox lip color that goes on like a gloss but dries matte.  The color lasts for hours and stays bold.  I’m excited to try this darker lip color (‘Disorderly’) for Fall that will compliment any complexion.  And if you don’t care for matte lipsticks, add a sheer gloss on top for a bit of shine.  This one is my go-to because it’s light, sheer and pretty.  It’s also not super thick or gluey and has no weird taste or smell.

MAC Eye Palette

If you’re going with a bold lip, I’d recommend doing a more subdued eye, and vice versa.  This eye pallet from MAC has more pigmented colors and dusky shades that are perfect for Fall.  Bye by bronzed beauty, hello Fall Vixen!  I’d buy it for the name alone!

Black Gingham Top

Isn’t this a fun top?! I love the black and white gingham print and the style with puffy sleeves and a tie waist that cinches you in.  I just got mine in the mail and it’s so cute one!  It’s actually very figure flattering and the back dips down slightly and has a bit of a curve.  Looks as good coming as it does going! You could pair it with black slacks or a pencil skirt and classic pumps for work or skinny jeans and booties for a night out.
For weekend, you can’t go wrong with a quality, basic tee.  It’s the workhorse of your wardrobe and will be begging for a cardigan to layer on top soon. I’m all about the white tee for summer (and all year long really), but tend to go with my darker tees in the fall.  I’m definitely a t-shirt girl and I’ve tried a million in my quest for the perfect quality and relaxed, but still slimming fit, at a decent price.  This one definitely fits the bill.  It’s silky soft, not see through, and washes beautifully.  The v-neck is Goldilocks- not too high, not too low, but just right.  It’s runs slightly big.  I buy XSP, but I prefer my tees more fitted.
I got these skinny jeans during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and they are a well-made, stretchy jean with a darker wash that’s perfectly budget friendly.  These are on sale for $38, but in case they sell out in your size, this pair is by the same brand and the shape is similar, they are just more of a light blue jean color.  They also have a frayed ankle hem so you can show a little skin above your ankle booties.
Slides are the shoe of the season and I’m anxiously awaiting the arrival of mine.  I know if I still worked in an office, I’d be all over these!  I can’t tell you the number of times I hobbled home and swore I would be wearing orthopedic shoes to work no matter how ugly they were just to save my feet!  Even though I loved wearing heels at work, I’d still keep a pair of flats on hand in case my feet needed a break.  This pair has gotten fabulous reviews and I’m crazy for the bow detail.
The mix of colors in this 3-strand bracelet are so pretty! I like how it’s delicate and feminine and can be layered with other bracelets or worn alone.  It kind of reminds me of the Gorjana jewelry that I adore so much.
I’m crazy for this python clutch.  It looks and feels so expensive, but it’s 33% off, only $53!  You can hold it as a clutch, but it also comes with a chain strap, so you can also wear it over your shoulder. It’s the perfect accessory to your fall outfits, especially the LBD!  Inside, it’s surprisingly functional with six card pockets and a long back pocket as well as the main inside compartment.  Also, the magnetic closure is nice and secure so your bag stays closed.  I hate it when the magnet isn’t good and doesn’t keep the bag shut!
I’m all about a comfy pajama and might need to trade my shorts set for this lightweight pants and tee set. This pair are soooo soft and I’m all about a jogger style pant for lazying around the house in.  The run TTS and come in 4 colors.
What are you loving for September?

I know that Harvey has taken a toll on all of us, but we’re determined to keep the faith and return to normal as soon as possible.  Please go here if you feel led to give to one of our school families that lost their homes due to the hurricane.  I know they appreciate it more than words could ever express.  And I’ll be praying and watching all of you in Irma’s path, praying you stay safe and sound!

  1. I’m looking for a great new red lipstick. I’m trying to find one that doesn’t get super dry on my lips but actually dries without smearing all over my face? Is this a good option? I haven’t gone to look to see if it comes in a red that works for me? I don’t want to go to the trouble if it smears or dries super dry and makes my lips feel like the Sahara!!!

    1. Hi Danielle, my favorite true red lipstick is MAC brave red – http://rstyle.me/n/ckaxvapz4e – but it’s more like a typical lipstick, so it doesn’t dry matte, but I haven’t had a problem with it smearing everywhere. Also, if you use a liner, that seems to help with sudges. My lips don’t feel super dry with this matte lipstick, but I also use a gloss with it because I’m not crazy about the super matte look.

  2. Megan thank you for all the fashion inspiration, you have helped me get out of the baggy tops and flat comfortable shoes rut I was in. I have a ball to go to in a few weeks and the first place I checked was Nordstrom for a dress.. success!
