5 Things

Welcome to the start of a new week friends! I hope you had a glorious weekend!  This weekend kicked off the official start to our baseball season and the first game was Saturday.  Our kids in the 6-8 year old range are definitely getting the hang of this sport now, so it’s extra fun to watch them battle it out on the field.  Of course, I’m still running after an active toddler most of the time, so I’m lucky to get to watch half the game.  Last year, I made the mistake of letting Jordan hold my iPhone to “entertain” her while I watched and of course, she dropped it so my screen has a crack on it now. #lessonlearned

These last two weeks of September will be extra busy here and I’m feeling the heat of all the commitments and events coming up, so today’s post will be a quickie!  Just 5 things that sum up our weekend and life lately!

ONE

This week Jordan wasn’t feeling well, being all congested with a runny/stuffy nose.  She didn’t get much sleep at all on Wednesday night, which means neither did I. But the next day on Stories, I shared how I used the Nose Frida to suck out all her (okay, I know this sounds gross but #momlife) snot and boogers.  My friend Marianna gave me the Nose Frida as a gift when I was pregnant with Jordan and I have to say that and the diaper cream spatula (thanks Kelly!) have been two of the best, most useful gifts for moms of babies and toddlers.

If you’re not familiar with it, the Nose Frida is nasal aspirator with a tube that is placed against the nostril (not inside) and you use your own suction to draw mucus out of your child’s nose.  Y’all gave me another tip, which is to use the Nose Frida in conjunction with a saline solution to really loosen up everything before sucking it out.

Thankfully, she slept through the night on Thursday and was feeling better, so we headed out to a fancy lunch at Panda Express and then went on a Target run.

Already wearing one of my finds from Friday’s dressing room post.  This cardigan is lightweight heaven!  I’m already dreaming of the pale pink one! Dressing Room Part 2 will be up on Friday!

Jordan is growing so fast and getting so big and her sparky personality is coming out more and more! She’s talking up a storm and definitely knows what she wants.  For instance, she wouldn’t let us take her sunglasses off and wore them into lunch and also while we were shopping inside the store!

The cutest thing is hearing her say, “here you go” when she hands you something and her new thing is “sorry!”

Y’all love a versatile piece as much as I do, so I wanted to show you this peplum tank that I wore above with the long cardigan and also how good it looks alone. I love it so much I have it in pink and white with black polka dots too!

These jeans are a designer splurge but worth every penny!  I don’t know how they do it, but they make you look so super skinny and they make your legs look so long!  Both of which are miracles for me at 5’1 with bigger thighs for my size.  No wonder nearly 300 women gave them rave reviews!

We had an impromptu baseball practice on Friday night, so I changed out of my jeans and booties, into my ultra comfy tie-waist joggers.

And it’s at the sweetest little park that has a playground perfect for toddlers with a slide and swings, but also this volleyball court that Jordan loves to play in as a big sandbox!  I didn’t snap a pic of James while they were practicing because I was trying to keep Jordan away from all those flying baseballs!

Those joggers sold out in a hot minute, but they are restocked in all sizes (even XXS) and in black!  I got XS in the green, but those are a little big on me, so I ordered XXS in black and they fit perfectly!

I’m obsessed with this whole outfit!  The joggers are soooo silky smooth and comfy and super lightweight.  Ran a whole bunch of errands in this and couldn’t have been more comfortable.  The blush pink sneakers run big.  I sized down 1/2 and still have to wear a thin no-show sock with them.

At Target, I had to stock up on toiletries, but I couldn’t help but notice some major decor goodness there.  This is the marble tray I showed on Stories and this mug jumped into my cart.  But I’m drooling over this round cutting/cheese board!

Did you hear that Chip & Jo are launching a line of home goods at Target on November 5th?! I can’t wait to see it!  I loved visiting the Silos and Magnolia Market so much, I’m hoping to head back in October for the Fall Silobration.

Call me lazy or call me prepared, I’ve started buying gift cards in bulk for kids’ birthday parties.  In my best fantasy life, I’d have James hand pick a special gift for each friend’s birthday he was invited to and give it to them perfectly wrapped with gorgeous wrapping paper.

In my real life, I’ve spent too many weekends frantically scrambling for a last-minute gift, only to be so rushed and guilty-feeling that the gift didn’t feel special anyway.  We never know what toys the child already has and I hate to burden the mom with asking, “what does Johnny want for his birthday?”  I decided to give up the fight for awhile in favor of trusty gift cards that are at the ready and that special friend can pick his own special gift.  Maybe he’ll get a few gift cards and they will add up and he can pick out something he wants even more.

I do think I could make this gift more personal by choosing a book to go with it.  Books make great gifts (for kids and adults), so I could stock up on some of those too.

I have started a Gift Closet for Christmas already and have been adding to it since this summer.  I hope that helps lessen the pressure come December!

FOUR

Do y’all have Fall decorating on the brain?!  I do big time and I’m digging the vibe in my friend Kelly Nan’s dining room! Don’t you want to be invited to that masquerade dinner party?!

And I can’t wait to see the transformation Gwen makes with her living room when she paints all the woodwork. I know that was a big decision!  Gwen is a rare mix of freaking genius talent, pure genuineness, and stunning beauty.  She definitely values quality over quantity and so her posts may not come as often as we like #selfish, but they are always worth the wait!

Did you see my friend Sarah’s tutorial for how to paint buffalo check walls?  It’s very thorough and easy-to-follow and I’m smitten with the result.  A pale pink or lavender would be pretty in Jordan’s closet.

FIVE

Tomorrow is the speaking event #cuenerves and I have to say YOUR thoughtful suggestions and comments have really helped me prepare.  I’ll definitely begin with the foundation of encouraging the ladies to make themselves a priority in their lives and reminding them that they matter too- not just everything and everyone else they support and care for on a daily basis.  I think we all need to hear this from time to time because so often we tend to be at the bottom of our lists or not even on them at all!

I’ve been going over and over in my head everything I want to share and all that comes from my heart as well as the fashion advice I feel would be most helpful in a short talk.  Then, yesterday afternoon, it suddenly hit me, what am I going to wear??  I’ve been so focused on the speaking portion, I hadn’t even considered getting dressed until now!

I was thinking of wearing a dress, and like both of these options because they are both comfortable, stylish and simple and I love that they prove you can find cute clothes without breaking the bank.  Both dresses are under $50!

Shirt dress

Dress XS ⋅ Similar Bootie ⋅ Necklace

This shirt dress is amazing! It’s one of those dresses you can wear year-round by changing up your shoe choice and layering pieces- think jean jacket, cardigan, leather jacket. I’m not sure if you can tell in the picture, but it has one small shirt pocket and a perfectly modest, but still somewhat open, v-neckline. This black color is totally opaque, so you don’t need a slip underneath, and it comes in several fall colors- the mustard yellow is fun and different.  I also ordered navy for a change.

The fit is TTS, I’m wearing XS and it hits a few inches above my knee (I’m 5’1), but the back is slightly longer.

Embroidered shirt dress

Dress XS ⋅ Peep Toe Bootie

But I love this embroidered dress too!  It reminds me of the Free People shirtdress, but at a fraction of the cost (unlined), and it runs smaller.  It’s under $50 also!

Do you like one or the other better for the talk?  I’m leaning toward the black, but would love to hear what you think!

Make it a great week!

  1. Black dress for the talk! I have a Christmas gift closet too, I have been buying gifts as I found good sales as well as redeem points for gift cards. It makes the holiday season less expensive and hurried!

    1. I’m very excited to not be hustling around this Christmas for gifts, even though I’m sure there will be things I see that I want to buy- even if I already have a gift!

    1. I was thinking that even if someone’s baby-nose-blowing days are behind them, it still makes a great gift for a new parent! I didn’t have it with my son and wish I did!

  2. First, I love the black. It’s such a classic option & is so versatile! Second, the gift card & book idea is pure GENIUS! Thank you so so much for sharing!

    1. I think that’s how we’ll go for awhile! I asked my son if he prefered to pick a toy out for his friend and he said he liked giving the card so they can pick what they want!

  3. I always look forward to your posts! I love both dresses but would agree with black for the event.

I looked at the Zella joggers but only see XS not XXS as an option 🙁

  4. You will be beautiful in either, but I’m partial to the black one. I hope you enjoy the experience. I’m happy for you. I think you are precious and kind, in addition to the obvious…gorgeous!

  5. The black and take different tops/accessories/scarves etc to dress up or down and transitions between seasons to show what you are taking about. Good luck 🙂

  6. You look about twenty-five in the second dress photo!! Both dresses are lovely but for a speaking event I would go for the black.

  7. 1. Thank you so much for including me, Megan!! I am SO loving all this fall- and I am hoping it is going to be perfect fall weather next week in NYC- woo! 2. I need the joggers! 3. LOVE your idea to include a book with a gift card- I’ve started my Christmas goodies stockpile too 😉

  8. Hi Megan- I just wanted to say Hi, I have been following you for awhile, but have never commented. I love your style, because it is great for everyday life, everyday women. You put such great looks together! Can I ask what the brand is for the python clutch that you show in the first outfit, I understand that it isn’t available at retail, but I love it, and thought that maybe I could find it elsewhere, like eBay maybe. Thanks so much and keep up the great work!

    Thanks Ellyn

      1. Hi Megan- thanks so much for your quick response, it is appreciated. I actually found it on Poshmark!! So excited. I watched your Instagram video last night, and you are such a natural, you should consider doing You Tube videos too. You have so much great information to share. Thanks again, Ellyn

        1. Very kind Ellyn! I started a You Tube channel, then never could make the time to create videos! But it is something I’d love to do if I could figure out how to fit it in. It’s so much easier to SHOW a makeup or hair tutorial than write about it! And talking about fashion is also easier than writing about it!

          1. Hi Megan- is your Halogen python clutch more black and white, or is it more of a tan color?

            Thanks Ellyn

  9. Hi Megan- what do you suggest wearing under the adorable peplum camisole? I am fairly chesty, do you know of a strapless bra that has good support? Have a spectacular week, and have fun in NY. Thanks Ellyn

  10. Hi Megan-

One more question, sorry. Do you think it is ok to wear those big oversized BP hoops if your hair is shorter, like just below chin length? Or do you think they should only be worn with long hair. Thanks Ellyn
