Our Winter Wonderland

Good morning friends!  Did you enjoy that extra hour of sleep as much as I did?!  Man, was that nice!  Now, I just have to teach Jordan not to wake up an hour earlier!  😉
Today, I’m so excited to kick off the holiday season with a mini Winter Wonderland I created in the sitting room just off of our bedroom.  I’ve been working on it for several weeks and thought it might be too early to share this Christmas decor, but as it came together, I found myself loving it more and more! Now, I’m thrilled to have this room in our home decorated for the holidays and we love seeing how gorgeous it looks all lit up at night!

This post in in collaboration with Martha Stewart Living, and the Martha Stewart Living Holiday Collection can be found at The Home Depot.  I’ve linked everything so you can easily find things for your home too.  The collection is amazing and there’s so much to choose from.
I decided to go with a winter white theme and touches of metallics (my favorite combo) and decked out our sitting room, which typically looks something like this.  To create a holiday magical feel, I hung lighted garland around the entryway so that it framed the space.

Pre-Lit Garland

This 9-foot pre-lit garland is so nice with the different snowy branches and petite pinecones.  It took three of them to frame the entryway, and I did actually nail it to the wall.  The hooks weren’t cutting it and I didn’t want it to fall! #ohhiHubby! #bettertoaskforgivenessthanpermission

Even last year, I wanted to put a Christmas tree in this space for the holidays, knowing how pretty it would be.  This year, my original plan was to find a narrow enough tree that could sit in between our two wingchairs. I was thrilled to see this 7-foot, 30-inch base diameter pre-lit beauty!  I had it sitting in the middle of the chairs at first, but I felt like the tree was overwhelmed by the furniture, so I moved one of the chairs to our living room and set the tree in the corner.  Now the tree has room to breathe and shine!  I flocked it lightly to add to the winter wonderland feel.

She’s decorated with a combination of beautiful metallic shimmy ornaments and the most adorable felt animal ornaments as a nod to our 8-month old baby girl, Jordan.

Gold metallic ribbon and gold beaded garland are wrapped around the tree for more bling.  Don’t be afraid to cut your ribbon or garland if it makes it easier for you to work with.  You can tuck those cut pieces into the back and no one will be the wiser.

Step ladders are definitely your friend for this process!  Especially if you’re short, like me.

To ground the whole look of our winter wonderland, I added in touches of black throughout.  I’m crazy for the black and white striped wrapping paper!  And I changed out our usual rug for the cowhide leopard one we normally have under the stairs (seen here).

Wrapping gifts is something I have a love/hate relationship with.  I love doing it, as long as I start long enough in advance to not be stressing with too much to wrap at the last minute.  Starting early and playing Christmas music while drinking coffee or hot cocoa seems to be the trick to truly enjoying the wrapping process.

In fact, listening to festive, upbeat Christmas songs while decorating gets everyone in the mood.  I even put on Christmas music while I was editing this post! My husband walked into my office with a puzzled look on his face, “Are you listening to Christmas music?”  Why, yes.  Yes, I am! #andIloveit!

Our family is definitely in for a treat this year getting to celebrate Jordan’s first Christmas.  We snapped these pictures while her 6-year old brother, James, was in school.  Later, when I asked if I could take his picture in here, he politely declined. #hmmm #goodluckwiththeChristmascards

At least this one’s all happy baby smiles!

And so curious about this fancy dress!

But back to the room-  I’m smitten with this view from the bathroom!

Another cool thing about this tree that I actually didn’t realize when I first got it, is that it does 9 different combinations of lights that are set by a control you can step on to activate.  My son loves the flashing colorful lights and how they can blink from white to colored.

The back of the room shines with the snowy wreath with little pinecones.  It’s a massive wreath,  36 inches of lighted goodness!  I painted the cord the same color as the walls so that it would blend into the background and two extension cords are plugged into the bottom of the wall so we could light the wreath and garland.

Since we don’t have a chimney, our stockings are hung with care from the shelf which used to hold our television.  I must say this set-up looks way more festive than a big tv!

Aren’t the deer and buck stocking holders cute?!

Even though I couldn’t get cutie-pie James in this round of pics, I’m happy to have these nice ones of baby and mama that my sweet friend, Tisha took.  It’s so hard to get a picture of us together since I’m usually the one holding the camera!

Our Winter Wonderland theme was completed with a cozy throw blanket and soft pillow on the chair. Perfect for curling up and relaxing and exactly the spot I captured the cutest pictures of James last year!

O Holy Night Art

And faux snow, reindeers, a train, sled and firewood arranged on the back shelf with another lighted garland finish it off.

You can’t go wrong with a decorative bowl full of ornaments!

And I couldn’t leave you without this last little series of adorable photos of Ms. Jordan and a sweet reindeer who got surprised with a ‘kiss’!

Sending y’all so much love and happiness throughout this whole holiday season!

  1. Oh my heart! She's so lovely! I'm 41 over here, and you're giving me baby fever. Not to worry, getting my two oldest ready for school in a few moments will clear that right up 😉
Beautiful room. Now to find an excuse to get to Home Depot.

  2. I absolutely love all of it!!! Now do you have another tree somewhere else? I just bought a new pencil tree (a second tree) for the family room space, as our huge 12 footer is in the living room space. Trying to figure out a theme, and a snowy winter wonderland sounds good! I love snowy owls so I might add that to the mix. Thanks for your great posts! I really enjoy them, and as I just turned 40 I much prefer your fashion posts to the 20-something year old bloggers. 😉 The red lipstick looks great on you!

    1. Oh yes! We put a big tree up under the stairs and one in my son's room. He loves to decorate it, but also loves to play with the ornaments, so half of them end up off the tree! I bought one for my office this year and we might need a small one for Jordan too! Thanks so much for the compliment. I actually much prefer my 40 year-old wardrobe to my 20 year-old clothes. I hang my head in shame at some of those choices!

    1. Thanks so much Courtney. I was stressing getting it all done and hoping it would come together in time, but now I really love it, which is the best part! AND I have lots of time to enjoy it!

  3. Wow Meghan you really did a beautiful job and I'm finding lots of inspiration for the holidays now. I also agree with Karen's comments and as a Mom who also runs a home based business I can really relate to how you balance everything. I find your blog to be such a nice balance of fashion, home decor, health, family, it's my fav. for sure. Keep up the great work on the blog and as the amazing Mom you are! Cheers.

    1. Thanks so much for saying that Sandra. I really appreciate that! It's always a struggle to do everything I want to do, so I have to make priorities and sacrifices all the time. Next on the list is baby proofing the house! This baby girl is into everything! 😉

  4. Love it! Jordan is adorable- she is going to have such a fun first Christmas! I work over by Memorial City and City Centre, so it's been hilarious to see all the lights being put up when it's been in the 80s and 90s- but so, so beautiful, too!

  5. Gorgeous. Your decor is stunning but your pics of the two of you are the most precious of all.

  6. I always love seeing your Christmas decor! So beautiful! And I remember the picture of James in that chair! As I read that caption, the picture popped into my head (even without the link) and made me smile. 🙂 I can't bring myself to decorate for Christmas until after Thanksgiving (sometimes I start that day), but thank you for your wonderful inspiration for the 3rd year in a row!

    1. I love you for sharing that with me! Thank you! We have a tradition of always putting up our decor and tree up the day after Thanksgiving, but I'm gonna start early this year so I can get everything photographed in time to just sit back, relax and enjoy the holiday season!

    1. This room was the perfect space to decorate early and it is beautiful to see it all lit up at night. I tried to get a good photograph of that, but it just didn't translate. I need to try again!

  7. I love every single pic and Christmas decors are my favorite I return a kid during this period and your choice of white Christmast with metallic touches is AMAZiNG!!!

  8. Megan, this is beautiful! Such a fun Christmas, as it will be Jordan's first 🙂 On a side note, I LOVE your hair… I may be showing these pictures to my stylist in a few weeks!

    1. Thank you Carrie. It was a big of a rough road finally getting the color right but it's so much easier now! Sending you good hair wishes!! 😉

  9. Megan this is just so beautiful! And those pics of you and Jordan are priceless! I ordered that O Holy Night sign last night! Feeling even better about it now that I see you ordered it too. Love seeing your fun Christmas decor. I have Christmas music on right now as I'm typing! 🙂 xo

  10. I bought that wreath too and it just arrived. Upon opening the box, I already saw so much fallout from the glitter and fake snow…does this ever stop? Haven't even pulled it out of the box yet…

Beautiful decoration! By far my favorite from all the holiday decorating you've done!
