Little Black Dress | Two Ways

Next week this time, most of us will be knee deep in Thanksgiving preparations, and I’m so looking forward to it!  Our son’s last day of school is Friday and then he’ll get to be home with us all week, which will be such a nice change, especially for him and Jordan.  They just adore each other, but during the week, they don’t usually get too much time together with him rushing off to school and her early bedtime.  With the time change and Fall season, I’ve turned my attention back to all things homey and I can’t wait to share more of that with you soon!
Today, I found such an adorable turtleneck dress (similar here and here) that I just may wear for the big day since I like to dress up a bit, but still be ultra comfortable, espeically after eating all the food!

With a blank slate such as this dress, I styled it up two ways for you to give you some ideas of how you can wear it, although there are so many more!
First up is my go-to very favorite peep toe booties (have them in black and brown) and a faux fur vest.  The booties fit true to size and if you are on the fence, I’d say size down because you don’t wear these with socks and you don’t want them sliding.

I saw so many cute faux fur vests back in stock at Nordstrom last time I looked.  Mine is a couple years old and still going strong.  When it gets cold enough, it’s one of my favorite things to layer over dresses, long sleeve shirts and button down tops.  Nordstrom has this one and this one that caught my eye- both at great prices for faux fur.

Adding a pop of leopard spices up any outfit- so glad I scored this great clutch!  It’s actually pretty roomy as far as clutches go, so it’s actually useful.

Next up, I wanted to show you how you can make use out of your comfy and practical rain boots besides wearing them with jeans.  This look also shows you how you can wear regular tall boots with this dress to dress it up.
Remember this post I wrote comparing Hunter and Ugg rain boots?  To save money, and for my petite frame, I ended up choosing the Kids Hunter Boots.  To find your kids size, just subtract two from your regular size.
For this look, I added slouchy knee high socks.  It adds visual interest and keeps your legs and feet warm.

I’m crazy about this scarf, such soft pretty colors that go perfectly with my neutral wardrobe.  I must say Nordstrom is killing it with their scarves this year!  This $25 infinity scarf has already been worn a ton.

Since Jordan’s been born, I’ve gotten so much better about putting my phone away in the evenings. We’re also keeping the tv off more and I find I’m much more relaxed that way.  The tv thing happened naturally because James needs to focus on getting ready for school in the mornings, so once he leaves, I watch a little bit of the Today show for news and such, then turn it off.  When James comes home from school, he has homework and likes to play with Jordan, so it has just been staying off. We’re not totally no tv, we typically turn it back on after dinner.  And my husband couldn’t live without sports, so it’s usually on all weekend if we’re home.
But, when I am on my phone, I love browsing Instagram and wanted to share one of my favorite accounts- @lee_kristine  Her feed is just family stuff but I love how she captures it so beautifully and her home is so simple and pretty!  Really inspiring to me.  And her girls are adorable!
Our lives tend to get so super busy, especially this time of year that it’s nice to take even just a few minutes to breathe and enjoy the beauty around us.
We are lucky to have Transco Tower in Houston that is a massive waterfall and green park area that is simply delightful!  Every time we visit, it feels so good to get to experience that.  The waterfall is really loud and easily drowns out the noise of the city.  If you’ve been with me a long time, you might remember I made our 2012 Christmas cards with a picture of James taken right in this very spot! Wow, was that really 4 years ago?!
That post is also useful for how to use PicMonkey if you’re interested in that.

Have a great day friends!
