5 Ways to Wear Your Plaid Button Down Shirt

Rise and shine friends!  I’m up early (before everyone for a change!) to get some things accomplished while the house is quiet.  This is actually nice and so peaceful to drink my coffee in silence before the day gets buzzing. I mentioned Monday that I’ve gotten serious about getting back in shape and I’m on Day 5 of a 40-Day Challenge/Mini Cut (more on Snapchat @honeywerehome) and so far so good!  I read all of your comments about how you are interested in my meal plan and workouts, etc. so I’m glad that we can be on this fitness journey together.
I’ll be sharing more details here on Monday, but in the meantime, I have a giant Wardrobe Wednesday post for ya featuring 5 ways to style that Fall staple in your wardrobe – your plaid button down shirt. This post part of a collaboration with Nordstrom, my favorite place to shop online.  Okay, who am I kidding, my favorite place to shop in general!  They just make online shopping such a breeze and do you know of a store with better customer service?  Always so friendly and helpful.
I showed you this shirt in my last Weekend Casual post and love the frayed-hem and higher cut sides for a more flattering look, but also the color and soft cotton.  It runs true to size, I’m in XS. I found a similar plaid top here if you like this look, but want to spend less.
This first look is a dressed-up way to wear your plaid shirt, with a feminine midi skirt, heels and a statement necklace.  Tucking the top in lets the skirt be the star and creates the illusion of a smaller waist.  You’ll get tons of compliments on this look at your office or on a fun night out.  My skirt is old from Nordstrom, Halogen 0P, so I linked some similar below.
These heels are a classic black pump, and actually pretty comfortable as far as high heels go.  They also come in nude and are 30% off now.

Of course you have your favorite pair of skinny jeans in your closet and a plaid button down is a no brainer for a casual look.  I love the long pendant necklace with it though to add a bit of pizazz.  These wedge booties are ultra comfy and when the cooler temps hit, this faux leather jacket will be a great, edgy layering piece.

I finally found a perfectly big, but not too big, bag that zips so I can shelter the world from all the stuff I’m carrying around lately in my bag.  I like that I can wear this one on my shoulder or at the arm with the shorter handles.  It carries like a tote, but is more polished.  Isn’t the zipper detail cute?! It’s under $50 too!

Since it’s still Spring and light and bright outside, our white jeans are getting lots of wear and look nice and crisp with the blue and white plaid in this top.  I swapped out the black pendant necklace for my trusty $18 white pendant necklace and on your feet, wedges go great with this look.  I’m crazy for these low, studded wedges and they come in black, navy and rust also that I’m lusting after.  I usually go for high wedges or heels, but these are super cute and comfy.

Y’all saw this weekend casual look on Friday, but I wanted to include it here so all the looks were in one place.  Jeans shorts, a slouchy top, booties and top knot for the win when you want to look effortlessly stylish.

You don’t have to keep your button-down buttoned up, you can add interest with a tank or graphic tee underneath. This look is more fun with a vibrant heel and statement necklace, it’s meant for an adult night out.  It would have been perfect for the Guns-N-Roses concert I went to recently (minus the heels!) it was a long walk from the parking lot to the venue! #ouch

I realized after I shared all these looks how long this post is, so in the future, let me know if you prefer I break it into two or more posts!  Wishing y’all a great day!

    1. Aww, thanks Gwen! The hair is definitely growing on me, but now I feel like I need to do more since there's still an awkward amount of blonde underneath. You can really see it better when my hair is straight and parted to the side.

  1. I love that black skirt and satchel. The cut of the skirt is so flattering! Your hair looks fabulous! Every time I get low lights I feel the same way; I'm excited to get them and the minute they're done I miss my blonde hair!

  2. Love the shirt…but I have to say….your hair looks GREAT. I know you like it lighter, but it really is looks much more youthful (not like that is a problem for you —at all) and dimensional.
