Preserving Memories With Legacybox

Not a day goes by that we don’t think about my Dad.  I wish he could’ve met Jordan, but no doubt James will fill her in as he clearly remembers Grandpa and talks about him all the time.  We all miss him terribly, and it’s getting easier to laugh about the good times and reminisce about funny stories lately.   Luckily, there are no shortage of those! I’m glad we have such a close-knit family and precious memories to share.

So many of our pictures of my Dad and the rest of our family have just been stored loose in shoe boxes.  Every time we want to look at pictures, it’s difficult to find the ones we want because they are all scattered and unorganized.  Getting those photos in order has long been on the ‘to do’ list, but no one ever seemed to be able to get to it.  When Legacybox reached out and offered to share their photo preserving service with me, I was intrigued.  After I researched Legacybox and realized they could digitize all our photos, with barely any effort on my end, I seriously jumped at the chance.  I knew this would be a great way to celebrate and honor our Dad and it was perfect timing with Father’s Day approaching.

I love this picture of our young family, even before my youngest brother was born! It was a special occasion and we all dressed up to take my visiting Great Grandpa out to dinner.  I remember thinking my mom looked so beautiful and fancy in that silky top.
My Dad was the one who always put the thought into making our house a home and having nice decor and a beautifully decorating table for family and holiday meals.  I always think of him when I set our own table.
Having Dad walk a bride down the aisle is a momentous occasion, even though he doesn’t look too happy to be giving his only daughter away! 😉
My parents were true love birds, and always holding on to each other.
And now that I’m a mom of two, including an almost 4 month old, it’s fun to look back and compare Jordan to when I was just 7 months old.  So glad my Grandma wrote on the back of this picture!  It never changes how all the generations of women love to dress up their baby girls in cute clothes.
Legacybox can preserve all these photos into a DVD and digital file so you never have to worry about the photos getting lost, yellowed, damaged or destroyed.  If we had VHS tapes or Super 8 film, they could preserve those too.  I wish we did.  I try to remind myself to take videos along with photos now because we love looking back at them.
I was excited and also a little apprehensive when I got the Legacybox in the mail.  You group your photos together into stacks of 25 and then affix a barcode onto them so they can account for each and every image you send them.  I put mine in plastic baggies, but rubber bands would work too.

Even though, I was nervous to send these photos off because they are original and our only copy.   I made sure to double check with my Mom and brothers and get their blessing on using Legacybox too and they were all on board, even excited about it!
The Legacybox kit includes a guide, round-trip shipping, crush proof box, and personal concierge so you can talk to an expert any time.  I gathered all our photos and shipped them off, and held my breath . . .

I felt much better when I got an email update from Legacybox that my photos were received at their processing studio.  Then, I got another email letting me know that every item I sent was barcoded and they put a little tag on each item so they know exactly where they are at all times.  When they were reviewing my order for accuracy, I got an email about that too.  So reassuring!
Finally, I got an email stating my Legacybox was being shipped back to me via FedEx with a tracking number.  Yay!!
We received back all the original photos along with a CD and cute little drive that contained all our images so we could all easily share them.
James loves looking at all the pictures, and it’s especially fun for him to see his Grandpa as a young man and his uncles as little boys!
I’m really thankful that our special memories are preserved this way with Legacybox.
We love you Dad!  Happy Father’s Day!

  1. I have been looking into Legacy Box. We have so many family pictures and this would be a great way to preserve them! I was also interested in their video services. Have you used them for home videos?
