5 Tips for Getting Out of Schlumpadinkaville

5 Tips for Getting Out of Schlumpadinkaville

The other day, I referenced a post I had written back in September 2010, when my son was just six months old, titled “The Road to Schlumpadinkaville?” In that post, I was feeling that I had gotten into a serious beauty slump as a new stay-at-home-mom.  Everyday, I was putting my hair up wet, wearing no makeup, and my uniform was a pair of khaki capri pants and a tank top.  Jewelry was out of the question, even my wedding ring!  Even if you’re not a SAHM, you might be able to relate to “letting yourself go” and you want to get your spark back.

It’s that time of year again, where we get to look back at where we’ve been this year and look forward to where we’re heading in the future.  These times of reflection are one of the best parts of having a blog because it allows a record of what’s happened over the years.  The older I get, the more thankful I am that I have this digital memory keeper!

Thank you so much for letting me share our heart and home with you.  This year was full of the highest high (you may have heard we’re having a baby!

Christmas at Our House

Christmas at Our House

Good morning friends! I’m taking advantage of a few minutes with the boys playing video games to reflect on the past couple of days and go through all the photos I took.  As I look through these pics, I’m thankful for real life, unstaged photos that may not have the best lighting or composition, but that truly reflect our family life and how things looked from behind the lens the last few days.  I bet lots of your homes and lives looked similar!

Since we were hosting Christmas dinner this year, I got James to help me set a simple dining room table and he was really into it,

Ringing in the New Year | NYE Dresses

Do y’all have plans for New Year’s Eve?  For so many years, during my college days, I waitressed and bartended and spent many a holiday weekend working.  The time change where you “fall back” was the worst!  Great for the partiers, terrible for those behind the bar! Sometimes I would request off so I could join my friends on NYE and we always had a crazy great time.  But those were the young party days.  Now, we make it a much lower key event, often skipping going out altogether for just staying in.  Last year, we had an intimate dinner with two other couples out at a local restaurant and it was really fun to ring in the new year together.

Good Monday morning to you!  We had a great weekend that kicked off on Friday with my son’s school Christmas concert (the cutest!), followed by my best girlfriend coming to town to stay a few days.  How fun to finally get some much-needed girl time!  We joined our other besties at North Italia Sunday night- definitely go there if you’re in Houston- it was so good!  She left this morning, and now we’re preparing for the in-laws to come on Wednesday.  It’s time to relax and unwind, but I admit, I still have those last-minute gifts to purchase and then I’ll be focusing on the food and groceries.

And our Christmas vacation officially begins now!  We’re off this morning to go see some cutie pie Kindergarteners perform the songs they’ve been practicing for weeks (O Christmas Tree & Hark the Herald Angles Sing) at the school Advent concert.  My son has been belting them out around the house lately and his little boy scratchy voice singing those high notes gets me every time! Then, it will be a family fancy lunch out and our son is out of school until January 5th!  Woo hoo!!!

The inlaws will be here Wednesday and Christmas is next Friday! Holy cow,

I’m getting a late start today after being up past my bedtime at my husband’s work holiday party last night. Date nights have been few and far between lately and it was good to get out and mingle and enjoy our friends together.  Too bad I couldn’t enjoy a glass of wine!  I can count on you to have one for me soon, right?! I’ll just live vicariously through you for a few more months!

I wore the green dress I showed you earlier this month and got a lot of compliments on it (it’s 40% off

Finally, the last little thing that needed to be checked off my To Do list has been completed in the nursery – the lucite and gold cabinet hardware is installed!  I searched high and low for these babies and found them on Lux Holdups Etsy shop.  And now they are doing their job, making our built-in cabinet doors and drawers both functional and gorgeous!

When I first shared our nursery with you, everything was complete, but the gorgeous hardware had yet to be installed.  Those kinds of things happen when you’re trying to make a 6-week deadline for the One Room Challenge.

Pregnancy Update | 28 Weeks (Third Trimester Begins!)

The weekends are going too fast, I swear! I’m embarrassed to admit how many hours it took me to get my address book and contacts all up to date this weekend so that I could get our holiday cards in the mail! But thankfully, it’s all done now.  I wish I was more organized and had my shiz together so our cards (first of all would have been mailed by now), but two: would have pretty Christmas stamps and festive return address labels, but I only now ordered them, so those will have to wait until next year.

I had to keep reminding myself that it’s the sentiment,

Good morning friends and Happy Weekend to you!! Can you believe it’s only this weekend and next until Christmas?!  I definitely need to make this weekend a productive one and finish my shopping (and send the rest of our Christmas cards – #hangsheadinshame!).  I have no excuse on the cards, we’ve had them for a long time, I just need to finish addressing them and get them in the mail! I LOVE receiving cards and we’ve got ours displayed on a wall of our kitchen with washi tape this year.

But, I did get the nursery decorated! Did you see it?!

Pink & Gold Holiday Nursery Decor

Pink & Gold Holiday Nursery Decor

Good morning from our bright and shiny and holiday-ready nursery!  Even though this little baby girl still has about 13 weeks until she arrives, spending time in her nursery is a new favorite pastime!  The holidays are the perfect time to have fun and play with decor, and I definitely had fun adding these girlie and festive touches.  Come on in!

Good morning!  I’m waking up today, already feeling a little behind in the holiday department!  My cards are only halfway out the door (I still have to address and mail the rest), only the dining room and Christmas tree are decorated (I still want to spread the cheer into the kitchen, my room, nursery, and bathrooms), and my shopping isn’t nearly done!  Are you with me or ahead of the game?  I’m marking today as a day to GSD! So, after my morning workout, I’m gonna get after it today and hopefully, tomorrow, I’ll have more holiday decor to share with you!

Our Sparkly Christmas Tree

Our Sparkly Christmas Tree

Y’all are so sweet to make me feel like I didn’t look like a big, green Christmas tree in yesterday’s post.  I’m sure from some angles, I do, but that’s okay, I’m just beyond thrilled to be having a baby. This one is super feisty in there- kicking and moving nonstop! But I like it because it lets me know she’s doing well.

And it’s perfect timing to talk Christmas trees since I’m showing you our sparkly tree from this year today!  When we built our home, I didn’t initially realize what a perfect spot this under-the-staircase would be for a tree,

We’re through an actually very productive weekend (finally photographed our Christmas tree and can’t wait to show you tomorrow!) and got lots of little chores done around the house too.  We’re even on the way to finishing our Christmas cards, although I still wish they’d already gone out.  One quirky thing I did over the weekend was get eyelash extensions.  Have you heard of that or tried it?  It seems it’s pretty popular in Houston, judging by how quickly the appointments fill up.  My mom wanted them for her birthday, so getting them together was a fun, (weird?) experiment.

Did anyone else find it hard to get moving this week after the Thanksgiving break?!  We sorta got our groove back by yesterday, but man, I am really ready for this weekend again!  It always feels like December is a busy month with all the parties and planning, but I’m loving it! I’m planning on photographing more of our holiday decor over the weekend so I can share it with you next week.  I’m going to add pink Christmas decor to the nursery just for fun in honor of the little girl on the way.  I know I did the nursery in lavender,

Is it starting to feel festive at you house too?  Thanks for you sweet comments on our dining room holiday decor (such a bummer that the foyer table is currently sold out, but it goes in and out of stock often if you’re considering it). I can’t wait to share our pretty tree with you soon! I shared a nighttime shot on my Instagram recently, but I want to take some bright photos to share.  That area of our house is hard to photograph and the weather has been pretty dark lately, so I’m waiting for a time when the good light and a break in my day coincide to photograph it!

Wow!  And just like that we’re already at December 1st!  Can you believe it?!  Somehow I’m always amazed at the end of the year just how fast it seems to have gone by.  Don’t you feel the same?!  The years are going faster or I’m getting older!  Definitely the latter, I’m sure!  But, I’m ready to savor all the goodness that December has in store!  We’ll have family visiting soon and a long Christmas break with my son home from school and I can’t wait for that!

As for me, I’ve started decorating our home for the holidays, including the dining room and I’ve also started shopping.
