How to Paint Perfect Stripes | My DIY ‘Love It’ Moment

One of my favorite #loveitmoment in my own home is the wide horizontal stripes I painted in our foyer that continue around our staircase.  It wasn’t difficult to paint the stripes, just tedious to measure  perfectly and then tape the wall very well.  The area in the staircase is really tall and being on that ladder so high up and painting wasn’t my favorite thing, but the outcome was worth it. I love it because it adds such personality and makes a bold statement in a space that was otherwise kinda bland.

Another #loveitmoment was painting (some) of the doors in our upstairs hallway grey.  The actual paint color is Sherwin Williams Brown Fox in semi-gloss.  It added that pop of personality the hallway lacked before.

We just bought a new rug for the space, and now the remaining doors are begging to be painted as well.  That’s a project I’d like to complete this summer.

Even though we’ve gotten to a place in our home where we are very comfortable with the function and decor, I’ve always got ideas brewing and things I’d like to change or update.  Case in point is our downstairs half-bath.  It’s not terrible, in fact, it’s pretty good!  We have a lovely marble counter vanity that our builder designed and constructed and I adore the round hammered copper sink.  I’m not crazy about our light fixture and I’d love to add wallpaper or change the paint and perhaps change the mirror.

  1. I love those bold stripes! Also, the gray doors add such a finished look to the hallway. I sometimes feel the same way- once things are finished, I start planning my next move! You've done a lovely job! 🙂

  2. How many coats on those doors? I put one coat and it is almost transparent. “Duration” paint, which is $70 a gallon.
