Hi friends! Are you back to work on this Monday morning? We have one more day of our Spring Break left, so we’re heading to Grandma’s house for one last lazy day before the week officially starts. We had a really good time on our short ski trip and a quiet Easter. After church, our family came over for lunch and of course an Easter egg hunt. It was raining so we had to do it inside, but the kids still thought it was awesome.
A couple weeks ago, I showed you my newly organized master closet, and today I’m showing you how I created that shopping bag art. What could be better than art that costs just about only as much as the frame you put it in?! My definition of ‘art’ includes fabric remnants, wrapping paper, greeting cards, and in this case, shopping bags. Don’t you also consider the Tory Burch shopping bags “art” too?! The bright, happy geometric pattern and corresponding logo are works of art in my book. I had a few bags from years ago, but I wanted a set of four in the same pattern, so my plan was to just walk into the store and simply ask if I could have some of their bags for my art project. I chickened out at the last minute and bought a candle, then after I checked out, asked if I could have extra bags. Wimpy! I know, I’m hanging my head in shame. But, the salesperson was like, “sure, take as many as you want” so I asked for some in the new colors/sizes that I didn’t already have. I didn’t realize they had multiple patterns and colors! #drool!
I braved Ikea alone just for frames after looking online to make sure they carried (and had in stock!) the sizes I needed. The NYTTJA frames are very inexpensive and contain a plexiglas inside as opposed to glass. I just popped off the cardboard backing so I could spray paint them.
I chose to paint the frames in the logo color to coordinate with the bags.
Next up, I used the plexiglas to trace the size I needed from each bag. I tried to cut closer to the bottom to avoid the extra folded inner layer where the handle goes. And for each bag, you can get two “art” pieces from the front and back of each bag.
Then just assemble the frames and insert the cut bag. Below shows how it looks with the plexiglas, but I need up taking it off for some of the photos so there wouldn’t be a glare.
So, technically, my art project wasn’t free- it was the cost of a Tory Burch candle!, some cheap Ikea frames, and three cans of spray paint. If you are smarter/braver than me, you’ll just ask for the bags and not have to buy the candle! 😉

This is absolutely awesome, I have saved several Lilly Pulitzer bags over the years because I think her floral patterns are the prettiest, I'll have to make some artwork with them now 🙂
Great idea! The patterns and colors are just lovely and add so much "fun" to your closet. And for the record, I probably would have bought something too before asking for free bags 🙂

I remember a few years as a kid we had to hunt inside. I think we liked it better that way! I love the shopping bag art idea 🙂

This is great! I'm in the midst of house hunting for the first time and I will definitely be doing this!
Cute! I did this with my LV box. Didn't think to spray the frames though. Looks great.
