Christmas Decor at Our House

This year, our holiday decor is taking place rather s-l-o-w-l-y.  I pulled out all of our Christmas bins, but so far, less than half have been unpacked.  The bits that did get unpacked or a few purchased new this year are making our home feel special for the holidays.
My son is obsessed with the countdown to Christmas this year, so he loves our homemade Advent calendar and things like this nutcracker that lets him actively count down the days until Christmas.  He pulls the nutcracker down everyday as soon as he gets home from school and changes the wooden blocks to reflect how many more days.

Our coffee station in the kitchen is what greets me each morning, so this festive little set up with the red berry wreath, red lacquer try and coffee mugs is a happy spot.
Every year, we display a nativity scene and the one we’ve used in years past is awesome, but it’s really large and takes up a lot of space. For a change, I like the small, simple wooden nativity scene with just a star, baby Jesus, Joseph and Mary.  I’ve got it nestled in a wooden tray with faux snow.
Our ‘drop zone’ table got festive with a mini tree, sparkly nutcracker, fresh red roses and two garlands adorning the table.

The red wooden star garland I picked up at World Market and they have another one that is red wooden hearts.  Super cute and different!  I just weaved this one into the faux greenery.

In the kitchen (and the entryway), I put some faux branches and berries into my World Market vases, they are perfect because they have a small neck, so you only need a couple of branches to create a full look.  I sprayed the neck of this one gold awhile ago for bling.

The “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” sign I picked up early this year and couldn’t wait to display it!

We’re hosting Christmas dinner for 12 adults and 5 kids this year so our dining room will be put to good use! So often we don’t use it, but it’s right off of our entryway, so we see it all the time and I like to keep it looking pretty.  Right now, we’ve got a gold glittery snowflake thing happening and it’s my favorite part of the house.  I’m always asked where our console table is from and it’s this one but I added drawer pulls.
Although I haven’t totally planned the table yet, we’ll go with a traditional theme and use this red plaid reindeer table runner.  Our table currently has the leaf in it, so if you have a shorter table, the cute burlap reindeer head would hang off the side (it’s 16 x 90 inches).

I was thinking of using a wreath and candle as the centerpiece of the table, but may change my mind before the time comes.  I loved this branch and feather wreath because I figured I could use it into the new year.

Whenever I can, I like to incorporate candles into my decor because they give off such a nice ambiance in the evening.  And it’s perfectly fine to mix metals!  We’ve got silver candleholders with gold candles and it looks lovely.  p.s. These 3×6 candles are on sale now 50% off (2 for $4.99).

My Grandma sent our son a gift with instructions not to open until Christmas, so I wrapped it up and put it under our tree.  He’s dying to open it now, but I told him he could open it on Christmas Eve;)  I remember always getting to unwrap one present on Christmas eve, so we’ll continue that tradition here.
Here’s the other World Market vase I mentioned.  I use these throughout the year with faux branches.  I love the height they provide- this one is 18 inches tall and is sitting on our entryway table.  It looks doubley nice reflected in the mirror.

Even though our decor is evolving slowly this year (still working on upstairs!), we are having a fun holiday season.  The kids’ Christmas concert was the cutest thing ever!   Our son gets out of school next Friday for two weeks and my in-laws arrive too, so it will be fun to have a full house for a change.
