My Big Boy

My Big Boy

For the first two years of my son’s life, I did a monthly blog recap as sort of an online scrapbook where I recorded personal mementos, milestones, and pictures of my cutie as he grew.  He’s four now and has grown into the sweetest, friendliest, and all-around fun little boy.  I haven’t done one of those monthly features in a long time, but had to share some of the shots from this weekend as he was super excited to start T-ball.  My son is one of the smallest kids in his class, and on the team, but is quick to correct me when he hears me refer to him as a “little guy.”

DIY // Painted Striped Curtains

DIY // Painted Striped Curtains

There was that time I tried to paint stripes on polyester fabric and just when I thought it was going to be a total disaster, to my surprise, it turned out pretty well.  (Thanks to my Instagram friends for encouraging me on!)  Here are my newly painted striped curtains hanging in my office.

You might remember that before I painted the drapes, they were originally just black.

I researched how to paint fabric and read that you add Textile Medium
to Acrylic craft paint, but one site said you could use acrylic latex,

Bikini Contest Prep // THE PLAN

Bikini Contest Prep // THE PLAN

I started working out with my trainer this week and it’s been very challenging.  I’m training to enter a fitness bikini contest that is just shy of 15 weeks away- July 5.  This post is a brief overview of the training plan so that you can get started too.  If you want a bikini body this summer, you need to start working on it now!  As the weeks progress, if the plan changes, I’ll let you know.  I will also break down the exercises into more specific details in future posts.

Extra Lean Ground Turkey Fried Rice

Extra Lean Ground Turkey Fried Rice

Oh my goodness friends!  I made a meal that I’m in love with and couldn’t wait to share it with you. Last week I posted about my pre-made extra lean ground turkey meals.  I ended up adding 1/3 cup of steamed brown rice to get some carbs in and then, to change it up, I decided to make it Asian and fry up an egg and onion in a tiny bit of peanut oil (a “good” fat) and then added in the pre-made meal.  It is so good!

Here is a pic of the pre-made meals (before I added the steamed brown rice).

Prepping for Weekday Mornings

Prepping for Weekday Mornings

I am not a morning person.  I love the idea of waking up early, before the rest of the house is awake, sitting quietly with a hot cup of coffee and enjoying the morning, then kicking into high gear, knocking out a bunch of things for the day.  On days when that has happened, I feel like I’ve done a whole day’s worth of work by noon.  But, in actuality, I’m the person who pushes snooze on her alarm clock (probably twice) most mornings.  My son is often my alarm as he jumps out of bed as soon as his eyes open around 6:30 a.m.

Bikini Competition Prep (15 Weeks Out)

I have always wanted to enter one of those fitness bikini competitions, but never have.  My first one will be July 5, 2014!

Jamie Eason has been my inspiration because she is short like me and I admired her physique, thinking mine could look similar if I really dedicated myself.

I know that to get in that kind of shape, you have to train hard consistently, but equally as important, you have to eat in a very regimented way (5-6 small meals a day with a specific balance of protein,

Easter & Spring Decor in the Dining Room

Easter & Spring Decor in the Dining Room

A bout of sunshine amidst some very cold and rainy days here prompted me to dig into my one small bin of Easter decor. I’m super excited for Easter this year because my grandma is coming to visit from California! 🙂 My dining room had been bare since the new year, so it’s the first room to get new life with the pastel Spring decorations on the console table.

I started with just the two lamps from Homegoods (I had to go to a second store to find the mate, but it was worth it!) and a Homegoods green jug vase with faux purple flowers.

Toddler Chore Chart

Toddler Chore Chart

Recently, I’ve started teaching my just-turned-4-year old that unpacking his backpack after school is his “job.”  It is kind of a big job too because it means carrying the bulky bag in from the car, there is a snack bag and a lunch bag to unpack, with freezer bags to put into the freezer, plastic containers that go into the sink and sometimes trash to throw away.  Then, there is the folder that needs to be emptied.  Everything goes back into the backpack for the next day.  He often complains that he’s, “too busy” to unpack his backpack, but I tell him it’s his job and when he’s finished,

Creating Graphics in PicMonkey

Creating Graphics in PicMonkey

I’m so excited to share today’s post with you!  I don’t know how to use Photoshop to make graphics and I’m always admiring those bloggers and graphic artists that create such pretty images for their blogs.  But, I figured out an easy way to make something similar in PicMonkey  (a free! photo editing site).  I’m working on a new blog design and have been playing with making an “About Me” page.  Here’s what I came up with for a draft using PicMonkey.

Operation Get Lean // Week 6 Recap

Operation Get Lean // Week 6 Recap

Hello 6 weeks!  I’m happy to report that I’m still sticking to my “get lean” program and I’m definitely seeing results- which inspires me to continue.  I saw on Pinterest recently a quote that said, “Summer bodies are made in the winter.”  Luckily, we still have some time until summer, so might as well start now!  It’s a bummer to be uncomfortable in your clothes when it’s hot and sticky outside.

I post progress pictures on my Instagram (@honeywerehome) and use #honeywerehealthy if you want to follow along.

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday!

Hi friends!  Just popping in to say hello and wish you a happy weekend.  I’m off to my son’s school for a mini field trip (they are studying the letter “P” so they are dressed as Princesses and Pirates and we’re  heading to the park to eat pizza, pretzels, and popcorn:) Fun times for 4 year-olds! Luckily, we’re having some gorgeous weather, so I’m looking forward to it too.

How fun is this pattern on the Kleenex box?! Makes my desk a little happier.  See all the patterns HERE.

Leg & Glute Workout

Leg & Glute Workout

Happy Friday to you!  Today is a “rest” day – yippee, I need it!  I’ve trained heavy Monday through Thursday with my sleep all messed up and finally got a good night’s rest last night.  I feel so much better.  We are having a bout of gorgeous weather here and I’m chaperoning a class field trip today so it’s going to be a great day.

Below is the LEG & GLUTE workout I did recently.  I’m training to add more muscle definition to my legs- I have lost so much over the years.  My calves are genetically round thanks to my mom,

Tricep/Bicep WORKOUT

Tricep/Bicep WORKOUT

Ready to get some nice, shapely arms?!  Here is a great workout for your biceps and triceps.  I used to not care too much about tricep or back exercises, but they are necessary to achieve that sculpted looked I’m going for.

I’ve got a pretty good bicep coming along- it doesn’t look that pumped unless I’m flexing though.

This workout incorporates “dips” and “pushups” which you can do at home too.

Unexpected Home Decor with Kleenex Designs

Unexpected Home Decor with Kleenex Designs

I don’t know what’s going on around here, but I feel like I’m reaching for a Kleenex about 50 times a day.  Maybe I’m getting allergies as I get older, but my son’s nose is running a bunch too, so  I’ve resorted to putting a box of Kleenex in nearly every room in the house. Nothing worse than needing a Kleenex and not having one close at hand. 😉 Luckily, Kleenex actually has really cute designs on their new boxes.  Have you seen them?  I have this adorable floral and bird design in the kitchen.  If you follow me on Instagram (@honeywerehome) you saw my grocery store gerber daisies last week and they’re still going strong!

Organized “Boutique” Closet

Organized “Boutique” Closet

Happy Monday! Hope you all got enough sleep last night, it’s hard to lose that hour. 🙁  I’ve gotten my closet all organized and pretty to show you, but I wish you could just come over and see it! Photographing is so tricky because of the light situation.  There are three windows, which provide nice natural light, but I realized that it also gets hot or the sunshine glares into the mirror, so I keep two of the three windows covered with retail boxes. Lends to the boutique feel I was going for. 😉 I have whittled down my wardrobe and jewelry to items I will actually wear,

Operation Get Lean // Week 5 Recap

Operation Get Lean // Week 5 Recap

One more week will be 6 weeks of clean eating and training 5 days a week (heavy weights) and at least 4 days of cardio (20 minutes).  I’m confident that you can make BIG progress and changes to your body and health in that relatively short amount of time.  I have “only” dropped about 3 pound (112 to 109), but I have gained muscle, which is my goal anyway.  I haven’t tested my body fat, so I’m not really sure about the number, however, my jeans fit perfectly again so I know I’m making progress (they were getting difficult to button!).

Back Workout

Back Workout

I’m glad to hear you liked the Shoulder Workout post– thank you for letting me know!  Today, I’m sharing the back workout I just did and then I’ll add the legs/glutes and back/bicep workouts.  As always, I warm up for about 5 minutes on the treadmill at 4.0, then do three planks (held each one for 2 1/2 minutes this time- which is freaking hard and I’m always shaking at the end).

I’m listing the weight/reps/sets I do, but obviously adjust according to your ability and goals.  If I was a beginner, I might do 3 sets of 12-15 reps with a light weight.

Hump day!  Already looking forward to the weekend here!

I wanted to show you a sneak peek of the contributor post I prepared for Jen at I Heart Organizing.  It involved a quick and inexpensive way to decorate your bookshelves while creating useful storage.  The post will be live on Thursday, so be sure to check it out. 🙂
