Simple Details // Blog Love

Reading through the comments on my last post affirms what I already knew about those of you who read this blog:  you are thoughtful, kind, compassionate, self-aware, nonjudgemental, and just generally good people.  It makes me feel more comfortable sharing my life with you via the Internet. 🙂  I recently stumbled upon a new (to me) blog via Pinterest and wanted to share this goodness with y’all!

Pam of Simple Details is a wife and mom living in Dever with some serious DIY and design talent.  I found her when I was looking for a tutorial for spotted leopard-like walls because I wanted to do that in my office.

Is There A Happy Medium Between Enjoying Your Things & Minimalist Living?

I have spent several hours rearranging and reorganizing my closet over the last few weeks. I consider myself fortunate to have a large closet, so I want the space to be useful and look nice. As I surveyed the area to create organizing solutions, I realized just how much stuff I have (clothing, shoes, jewelry, bags). Over the years, I have pared down and donated much of what I wasn’t wearing anymore, but I also purchased more jewelry as a Stella & Dot stylist, thus adding to my collection.

At the same time, however, I’m really drawn to articles

Workout Shoes & Self Tanner

Workout Shoes & Self Tanner

Two things last week have given my workouts a little boost- new shoes and self-tanner. 😉  I’m a big fan of ASICS running shoes and asked for a new pair for my birthday.  Love this pop of orange and pink!   Good energy for working out! I got mine at Sports Authority on sale for $99 (Gel Evate) hot pink/white/sunshine.

but these below are similar at Nordstrom for the same price.

A good pair of shoes is an investment that serves you well.

On another note, I like being tan,

Guest Bedroom Update with Pintuck Duvet

Guest Bedroom Update with Pintuck Duvet

A few of my blogging friends and I are sprucing up our guest rooms this week and sharing a few tips to help you make your guests feel welcome when visiting.  Our guest room gets used most often by my in-laws who live out of state, and I’m hoping my Grandma will visit soon too.

This beautiful white pin tuck duvet cover was provided by Crane & Canopy, a company known for their quality bedding, which is also pretty and affordable.  I love how it makes the king bed feel like one you might find at a nice hotel with fresh white sheets.

Operation Get Lean // Week 3 Recap

Operation Get Lean // Week 3 Recap

Happy Monday y’all!  I am excited to report that after 3 weeks of clean eating (with the exception of cheesecake on my birthday and a terrible Sunday- more on that below) and lifting heavy weights 5 days a week, I am seeing some results!  Here’s the latest picture from my Instagram (@honeywerehome).  I want to show you a real life representation so I don’t use any filter on these pictures.  I’ve only lost about 1 1/2 pounds in 3 weeks (112.5 to 111), but I’m not too concerned with the scale since I know muscle weighs more than fat.

Chicken Breast Sandwich

Chicken Breast Sandwich

I’m looking for other ways to get my protein in each day.  I eat a lot of skinless, boneless chicken breast and really like it the Tex Mex way, and just made a regular ole sandwich today.  I’m not banning bread, I just make sure to eat 100% whole wheat and eat it earlier in the day.

On my sandwich, I put chicken, light mayo, 2% American cheese, and arugula and butter lettuce. I’ve been buying thin sliced chicken breasts.  Each one is about 4 ounces and they cook more evenly.  I cook them in the oven at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes with a tiny bit of olive oil and Tony Chachere’s No Salt Seasoning,

Our Breakfast Room

Our Breakfast Room

A few changes in our breakfast room has given it a whole new look.  We spend a lot of time here eating meals, hanging out, and my son plays and does projects on the table.  It is often a mess, but I try to clean it like this at the end of each day.  I remember so well when we first moved in and didn’t have anything in this space for a long time, except a rug, then after about 3 months, decided on the table and benches.  Six months after that came the drapes (I picked out the fabric and had them sewn).

Sugar Paper LOVE

Sugar Paper LOVE

My love affair with paper knows no end.  Yes, I already downloaded a FREE printable 2014 calendar that is hanging in my kitchen and I had a 2014 desk calendar, BUT I hadtohave these Sugar Paper calendars that I found on clearance last weekend.  I mean really, how can you resist these designs at 50% off?  I’m sure before 2014 is over I’ll have used all of them!

The inside of the smaller one is also adorable and it comes with a weekly and monthly calendar.

And how cute are these?!

Vitamins & Supplements

Vitamins & Supplements

Like many of you, I was completely confused about what vitamins and supplements I should be taking.  It seems like there’s so much information to absorb that it can get overwhelming quickly.  Couple that with some vitamins should be taken with food, some combined with others, some on an empty stomach, and some not with others.  Ahhh!  I happen to be a fan of Dr. Oz, so I often listen to his recommendations and then read/research and ask other people about what they are doing.  Here’s where I am now with my vitamins and supplements.

I take the vitamins/supplements pictured above every day.

My Fashion Snapshot

My Fashion Snapshot

Hi guys!  Hope your week is off to a good start!  I’ve been staying pretty focused on trying to get in shape, eating regularly and working out 5 days a week, but this weekend I also started reorganizing my closet and plan to share that with you as soon as it’s done.  It’s been a project, but I’m already loving it! You can see a sneak peek on my Instagram

I’m still going with clear spaces in my home and on the console table in our entryway, just added a vase from Homegoods and some fresh lilies.

Tuna Salad

Tuna Salad

Wanting to change up my meals, I made tuna salad this week.  It’s so easy to prepare because you’re not cooking anything (except boiling eggs if you want egg whites in yours).  I eat mine over greens (butter lettuce and arugula), but it’s also good as a sandwich on whole wheat bread.  One of my favorite things my Grandma used to make for me was a tuna melt.  She put the tuna on a piece of toast with a slice of cheese on top, then microwaved it for about 30 seconds.  It’s really good that way!

Because I wanted to make enough to eat for several meals,

Operation Get Lean // Week 2 Recap

Operation Get Lean // Week 2 Recap

Two weeks down and I’m starting to notice some results.  I have been very committed to my meal plan and the workouts, and I want all the results immediately, but I’m taking it one day at a time. Having a photo to remind me where I started and track my progress really helps me stay motivated.  Here’s a pic I shared on Instagram.  The pictures were taken 1 week apart, both on Friday morning (after week 1 and after week 2).

I start my workouts with a 5 minute treadmill warmup (speed at 4.0),

Paint Colors in Our Home

Paint Colors in Our Home

I’m often asked about the paint colors used in my home and wanted to compile a list so you (and I!) have them all in one place.  All of the paint is by Sherwin Williams- it’s what our builder used and I’ve been happy with it, so I stick with it.  Of course, it’s difficult to get a true reading of a paint color over the internet.  Sometimes I edit my photos to make them brighter which may distort the color, but I’ve tried to pick the photos that depict the way the color looks to my natural eye during the day.

Peanut Butter Brownie Bliss Valentine’s Treat (You Won’t Feel Guilty About)

With Valentine’s Day approaching, we might be looking forward to indulging in our favorite sweet treats.  For me, chocolate tops the list.  Pairing chocolate with peanut butter is even better! One of my favorite treats is homemade peanut butter cups, but they are a little time consuming to prepare and high in calories and sugar.  If you are looking for something with chocolate and peanut butter to satisfy your sweet tooth, you may want to try these . . . Peanut Butter Brownie Bliss.

Yumminess!

Since I feel like Valentine’s Day should be shared among friends as well as honeys,

New Dr. Oz Magazine // The Good Life

New Dr. Oz Magazine // The Good Life

While browsing the bookstore the other day, I happened upon a new magazine by Dr. Oz, The Good Life.  Of course I picked up a copy and, so far, I really like it!  If you aren’t familiar with Dr. Oz, he’s a heart surgeon and professor who became popular as a regular guest on Oprah and now has his own show, although he still practices medicine.  His credentials are stellar, but what most people love about him is how he puts health lessons into terms we can understand and implement in our own lives.

The first issue has great information about multivitamins

Popular Pins // Valentine’s Day Edition

Put me in the camp of, “I like to celebrate Valentine’s Day, but it doesn’t have to be a huge celebration. A small acknowledgement of love is great.”  A little love note, a great piece of chocolate or sharing champagne, a cute nighty, a flower . . .  you get the idea.  I think Valentines are for everyone too- kids, girlfriends, Mom.  I’ve got a few things picked out for my son already. 🙂

Nailhead Wingchair

Nailhead Wingchair

The wing chair in our master sitting room found a mate!  It’s a match made in heaven.  I was so pleased with the first chair- the cream color, shape, nailhead trim, and price that I wanted to add a second one.  The chair is pretty comfy, although we don’t sit in here super often, maybe just when my hubby is hogging the t.v. downstairs!

Operation Get Lean – Week 1 Recap + TREADMILL SPRINT INTERVALS

Last week, starting Sunday, I began training and eating to get lean and add muscle with a goal of looking something like the photos below.  I’m crazy for those shoulders and abs!  I’ve never really had nice shoulders and arms like that and I want to see if I can get them.
