Snowy Aqua & Mint Mantel

Being December and all, I think it’s time to officially welcome Christmas into my home! I’m doing different colors schemes in different areas of our house this year, and the dining room is getting decked out in aqua, mint, white, silver and gold.  Love how our console table looks all dressed up!

The mint inspiration came from a new snowflake pillow that I paired with a white faux fur pillow inside our HomeGoods basket.

Since I recently made the “The most wonderful time of the year” art in a similar color, I decided to bring it into the room.
I used items I already had in my house, but included two new items from Hobby Lobby: the NOEL letters and the reindeer.
I considered painting the letters like I did for my LOVE art, but decided I liked them the way they were sold.  The natural color balances out the bright aqua and mint.
The reindeer did get a coat of silver and gold spray paint.  I also sprinkled silver glitter on him.
Years ago, I bought a bunch of faux snow from Pottery Barn during an after-Christmas sale for just a couple of dollars and I reuse it year after year.  It’s one of my favorite discount buys.
Filling a large bowl with colorful ornaments is about the easiest way to add a festive decorative touch to your home.  I like to add larger ornaments on the bottom, then layer in smaller ornaments to fill in the gaps.  This mini tree is a favorite of mine because it’s got gold tipped branches and a burlap wrapped base.  I added in some snowflake ornaments for added bling.
I’ve had the silver lanterns for a couple of year now and really like the simple shape and how the door opens so I can fill them.  It would probably be better if the top came off because it’s a little tricky to get the ornaments and snow in then, quickly shut the door before it falls out!
See how we dressed up our dining room for Christmas with snowflakes the next year!  And visit my HOLIDAY tab for more holiday decorations and projects.

  1. Looks amazing! I just started to "decorate" this year. I travel so much, that it just hasn't been worth it. I am forcing myself to look at every store I go to. I have found many great things out and about!

  2. Love it Megan. We are going with more of a lodge theme this year…I am loving the burlap, plaid and winter animals!! Our vintage tree is up and decorated, but our real one is up (thank God for a tree company that delivers and sets up because our tree this year is a beast!). No lights/ornaments yet…have to buy a new ladder to reach the top! LOL This is what happens when baby girl comes home and decides to pick a Texas size tree!!!

  3. Beautiful! Your vignette is stunning with silver and I love turquoise in the Winter and for the holidays. I once did a tablescape with dishes and all. Have a lovely December season.

  4. Looks awesome!! I really wanted to use this color for Christmas this year but wasn't sure how it would look and now I am just loving it even more! Will have to plan for next year's Christmas!! 😉

  5. My mother in law decorates her house in the blue/white/silver color scheme every year and it always looks so pretty. I love how you spelled "noel" around the mirror. Everything looks so pretty! I can't believe the art is DIY. I'm doing that today! Thank you 🙂

  6. It's so so pretty, Megan. I want to pour a cocktail and just hang out in there. You always style everything so beautifully.

  7. Looks beautiful!! Love the colors. We've only gotten as far as pulling out our bins of decorations and standing the tree up but have yet to actually decorate it. We will this week though! Seeing everyone's decorations gets me in the spirit.

  8. I love your style and that console table freaking awesome! I just started decorating for the holidays this week and finished up the tree a couple days ago. I have a few pillows to make and then I think I will be done. Maybe!

  9. I just love aqua as a Christmas color – it reminds me of chilly, snow covered scenes! I have a collection of aqua colored glass ornaments that I just love, but with 2 kiddos under 2, we've had to get creative about how we display our breakable Christmas decor. I ended up hanging a lot of my ornaments in a couple of long, thin windows in our living room. I love the way the aqua ornaments look hanging from red ribbons and with the sun shining through them! http://www.blueistyle.blogspot.com/2013/12/GlassOrnamentWindowDisplay.html

  10. Saw your photo of this same vignette on Pinterest and posted a comment but it's not there so I'll tell you how beautiful it is again. The colors are so soft and pretty. How in the world did you manage to find a pillow and throw(or scarf)to match. I didn't realize there was a white fur pillow behind the light aqua on until I looked at the pictures on your website again. Do you mind sharing where you found your Bambi seen in the photo and where you purchased the faux snow? I'm not putting up a Christmas tree this year but hopefully in the next few weeks, I can get a few simple decorations put out. Probably there is slim pickings this late in the month. Have a Michael's one mile from us and A.C. Moore about 9 or 10 miles. Will try there and Dollar Tree for apothecary jars or Home Goods. Thanks for sharing your pics with your fans. You sure are talanted when it comes to decorating. I'm bookmarking your website tonight for easy access.

  11. Beautiful! I'm going to now check out more of your blog since being introduced to it now from House of Turquoise. Could you please tell me the name of your wall paint? That gray is exactly what I am looking for!
    Thanks!
