Home Office Update // Ikea Doksta Table

Hi friends and happy Monday!  I’m particularly happy today to share with you an update to my home office that has made my life much easier.  I added the Ikea Doksta table to my office and I love it!  Isn’t she pretty?!

I was worried about the sturdiness of the table and whether it would wobble, but I haven’t had any problems with it.  It’s not getting high-traffic use like a breakfast table so I hope it lasts a long time.

The table is 41 inches in diameter- perfect for my room.  I wanted this table to serve two purposes: 1) a spot for my son to play, draw, and color while I’m at my desk so we can be together in the same room, and 2) an area for me to spread out on when I’m coming up with blog ideas or doing a craft project.
I chose a round table because most of the other furniture in the room has hard angles, so I thought this would soften the room and fit well in the corner.

Although I get a lot of inspiration and ideas from Pinterest, I still like browsing through my magazines and catalogs, tearing out pages and making handwritten notes. I like to use my pretty pens and fun paper and just having it around makes me happy.  But if I have it, I want to actually use it- not just look at it.

The “J” cup and orange candles are recent Target finds.  Why not keep your pens in an interesting holder?  The colorful chevron pen is Jonathan Adler.  Isn’t it funny how even a pen can be happy?

Along with fresh flowers, I’d normally also have a cup of something to drink beside me.  Water or tea probably.  And I love to have some good music playing too. I often just use our music channels on the TV in the living room (which I can hear upstairs) and I’m going to try listening to Pandora radio on my computer.  Do you use it?  What stations do you like?

My son does love using this table too and when he’s at it, I typically put a tablecloth over the table so that I’m not paranoid about marks or scratches.  I have one of those heavy vinyl ones with a soft underside that works great.
I hope you have a great week!
If you missed it, over the weekend I wrote about a great new white coat I ordered and shared a couple of my favorite hair tools. 🙂
I’ve also got some fun GIVEAWAYS in the works this month, one from Gilded Mint original art launching tomorrow. And the winner of the MINTED giveaway will be announced tomorrow.

I love that table! I could so use that in my office space. My four-year-old is always hanging out with me working on puzzles and crafts while I'm working!

Looks wonderful in your space Megan! We also have the doksta table and have used it in my husband's downtown office for meetings. We have had it for 3 years now and it still isn't showing any wear and tear! It is perfect for spreading out all of those magazines and ideas of yours! xoxo

thanks for the peek into your space! you're so right that the round shape of the table works with all the other hard angles. Yes to Pandora! I love to listen to it while I'm working on photos or writing blog posts- sometimes I'll make a station for a particular genre (or even artist) and most times I just listen to the shuffle.

What a great addition! Just a simple table can really transform a space. What a great idea for James to be able to be with you in the room too. I need to come up with something like that for my daughter.

Great table, girl. We love our round one in the playroom. And those tulips are just so gorgeous. I want to work right there next to you!

Such a great addition! Love that it's round and fits right in with the rest of your decor in the office.

Love the table. Your office is gorgeous. I am fortunate that I now have an extra room upstairs separate from my office downstairs to spread out in, but I would definitely have considered adding a table to my office if I didn't. I too am all for using those pretty things, rather than just looking at them.

It was like it was meant to be! Love how it looks in your already oh-so-fabulous space. What I adore most is that James has a place to work while you work. Nothing sweeter.

    xo!

It's so nice to have a space to spread things out because a lot of times there just isn't enough room on one desk! Love this idea.

Really cute! Love the J mug too. Oh, and on Pandora, you can create your own custom station – try it, it's great!

You're a girl after my own heart: paper and pretty pens, magazine tear-outs… I'm an old soul in a techie world! Love the table.

Thanks for sharing some picture of your home office! I am currently in the middle of redoing my space since we had to put some new flooring down, and I think it was about time we did some restructuring. I have been looking at an adjustable desk for my space since then I can fit more of my stuff in the office without it being a cluttered mess!

Hey Megan! I know this post is old but do you remember where you got the blue boxes on your ikea box shelves?
