Halloween Decor

Halloween Decor

Happy Halloween friends!  Are you getting all dolled up or is that just for the kids?  My little guy will be a Star Wars Stormtrooper, but we are expecting a major rainfall, so we might just have a little party inside.  I got a few goodies, some black and orange balloons, a scavenger hunt skeleton and I’ll be making these fun Mummy Hotdogs.

I put up a tiny bit of Halloween decorating this year, which is more than I can say for the last three years combined.  But, I’ve had this giant spider forever (in anticipation of decorating for Halloween that never happens) and I felt like he finally needed to be showcased somewhere. The webbing was found in the grocery store Halloween aisle for a couple bucks and is just pinned to the wall.

Halloween Costume & Blog Announcement

Halloween Costume & Blog Announcement

First, let me apologize for having to truncate my posts (causing readers to have to click the somewhat annoying “read more” to read the post in its entirety) because my blog content has been stolen by some unidentified person with a domain registered in India.  Thank you Leanne for letting me know- I had no idea.  Back in August 2012, several well-known bloggers started truncating their posts because “scraper sites” had been stealing their blog content.  I never worried about my content being stolen and didn’t want my readers to have to deal with that extra step of having to click a link to read the whole post,

Bloggers & Lowe’s in the City

Bloggers & Lowe’s in the City

I’m so grateful for the friendships blogging has brought into my life.  You might know that I met two of my closest friends (Cassie and Courtney), though this blog.  We all began blogging about the same time and met early on and just clicked.  We are all unique and different in our own ways, but the three of us together just fit.    They are like the sisters I’ve never had.  Since we are scattered throughout the country, we keep up mostly via email and phone chats- and LOTS of text messages.  Last week, we were thrilled to get to meet up in person in New York for Lowe’s Holiday Ready Home event.

Medicine Cabinet Labels

Medicine Cabinet Labels

We don’t have a traditional medicine cabinet, the shallow kind that hangs on the wall with a door that opens.  Instead, we keep our medicine up high in a cabinet in the bathroom. To keep everything organized, I use my favorite InterDesign drawer organizers and put the medicine into different sections depending on what it’s for.  I use those organizers in almost every drawer in our house- they are clear and have lots of different sizes to fit everything from kitchen tools to bathroom supplies.

Over the weekend, I decided to make labels so that we could quickly tell what medicine goes where.

Healthy Yogurt Station

Healthy Yogurt Station

After seeing the breakfast bar in my kitchen (which now includes a quick morning oatmeal), Leanne (Away We Go) emailed me to share something similar she does in her home with yogurt.  She created an adorable, functional way to have a healthy yogurt snack with a variety of toppings.  It’s great to have all these yummy ingredients on hand and easily accessible.  Here’s Leanne to tell you how she did it.

Yogurt cups have always been a popular snack in our house and over the past few months we have pretty much made the switch to Greek.

Nailhead Lacquer Box

Nailhead Lacquer Box

Sugar Paper is one of my favorite paperie stores.  They have the chicest and most stylish stationery around.  Years ago, I entered a giveaway on a blog (maybe La Dolce Vita?) and won a pink lacquer recipe box and other paper goodies from Sugar Paper.

I don’t usually write my recipes on index cards, but I LOVE the box and it’s been sitting on my bookshelf forever.  I was thinking that maybe next year I’ll use the box to create one of those one-a-day perpetual calendars.

I recently embellished the box lid with square brushed gold nailheads that I found at Hobby Lobby.

Vitamix Blender- Worth It?

Vitamix Blender- Worth It?

Last year I was considering purchasing a Vitamix blender and then was shocked to see how expensive they were when I visited the website.  I was so naive about the price!  I wrote about it on Honey We’re Home, asking people if they thought the Vitamix was worth it and got a lot of responses, mostly people encouraging me to make the splurge and others saying blenders that sell for much less will do the job fine.  I was still on the fence when I was at Costco one day and they had a Vitamix 5200s on sale (but now I can’t recall the exact price) so I went ahead and bought it.

Halloween Treat Bags // Take Out Containers

Halloween Treat Bags // Take Out Containers

Our preschool Halloween party is at the end of the month and I’m helping some of the other moms with the food, decor, and treats.  We brainstormed a few cute ideas that I thought you might be interested in. Of course, we turned to Pinterest for lots of inspiration.

The party is short, just after the costume parade, but we still wanted to make it special.  For food, we’ll be bringing these adorable Witches Hat Cupcakes.  Looks like a white cupcake with white icing, a brown ice-cream cone hat, licorice hair, candy corn nose and two chocolate dot eyes.

Faith

Faith

Worship and worship music is a huge part of my expression of joy, thankfulness, faith, and love of God.  I enjoy different kinds of worship music, listen almost exclusively to contemporary Christian radio in my car (89.3 KSBJ), and sing in the choir at my church.  I often feel the closest connection to God and His peace and love in my times of worship.  Many tears of both joy and heartbreak have fallen during my worship time.  Only He really knows everything we’ve been through.  But, I almost always feel a deep sense of peace after a pure time of worship when I didn’t hold anything back.

It’s taken it’s sweet time, but our temperatures are finally dropping and I’m suddenly noticing tank tops and shorts aren’t cutting it anymore.  Time to pull out some fall attire and maybe even hit up a few sales this weekend!  The change of season always makes me want to go see what’s out there.  Here are a few sales I’m aware of that you might be interested in.

Popular Pins

Popular Pins

Happy Friday again!  This week sure flew by and, surprise!, we’re already nearing the end of October.  I drove down one of our main streets at night recently, Westheimer Road, which passes by the Houston Galleria and through the popular Highland Village, and noticed that the palm trees that line both sides of the street were strung with white Christmas lights.  It got me a little excited for the holiday season, which will be here before we know it.

I’ve got some popular pins to share with you today.  And I’ve been working on organizing my Pinterest boards better and have added some new boards Men (mostly men’s fashion/style) and Wedding (just because the photos are so pretty and for those of you looking for wedding inspiration).

Drop Zone Entryway

Drop Zone Entryway

Today is a happy day because I finally created a much-needed drop zone in our home just off the back garage.  We normally enter the house through that garage door and, as a result, everything was getting dumped onto the kitchen counters. No more!  I’m sharing all the details at I Heart Organizing today if you’d like to check it out.

And, on Honey We’re Healthy, I complied a list of my essential kitchen items with where to find them cheap!

I’m excited to be working with Fabulous K again on some tweaks to my blog!

Kitchen Must Haves

Kitchen Must Haves

Over the years, I have definitely found my “must have” kitchen items that I use over and over and that are essential to preparing healthy meals.  If you’re going to go to the effort to cook meals at home, having these tools on hand will get you through most recipes.  And, you don’t have to spend a fortune on these things.  I sourced all of these products through Amazon (which has great prices on quality products), and I know that many people use the site because it’s such a big time-saver and the convenience of having things delivered right to your door is hard to beat!

Coffee Table Switch

Coffee Table Switch

I recently played musical coffee tables and moved the mirrored table from the living room and put this tufted ottoman in its place.  It’s a good fit!

ottoman | mirrored tray | sectional | similar rug | similar end table | similar lamp

I added a mirrored tray on top to break up all the beige-  and I like the pop of shine.  The tray is functional too, holding our too many remotes.  I’m lucky that my son doesn’t mess with the tray- he’s too busy playing Star Wars.

Healthy Coleslaw

Healthy Coleslaw

Cole slaw is a great side side dish that’s a wonderful additional to so many meals.  I particularly love it with barbecue and made it as an addition to slow cooked pork shoulder last week.  To make a healthy cole slaw, I used the America’s Test Kitchen  Healthy Family Cookbook recipe, which uses buttermilk, light mayo, and lowfat sour cream.  The result is less calories and less fat- a 1-cup servings has 70 calories and 2 fat grams.  Note that this recipe takes about two hours (non-work time) before it’s ready, so plan accordingly.  You can also make the coleslaw ahead and refrigerate in an airtight container up to one day.

Polyvore Project Decorate // Win $500 to Pottery Barn

Where have I been and why haven’t I been taking advantage of the awesomeness that is POLYVORE??!! You all might be familiar with the site already, and although I had heard of it, I had never played around with it because I didn’t understand how EASY it is to use.  Once I got on the site and started playing around creating “sets” (moodboards), I looked up and two hours had passed!  And the super cool thing is, Polyvore (universally known for its fashion sets) has expanded into the world of home decor.  That means you can create super cool interior design sets and try out different combinations before making a single purchase.
