Fall Decor // Console Styling

Fall Decor // Console Styling

Year after year, as we decorate our homes for the changing seasons, we learn more about our style and perhaps ourselves.  What do we want our homes to say, what feeling do we want to convey?  If you’re a funky and colorful type of person, I bet your home reflects that.  Are you more modern or traditional?  I’m sure those elements creep into your home design too.  I keep coming back to inviting and simple decor.  I lean toward uncomplicated spaces with a coziness to them.  I tried to accomplish that with the addition of some Fall decor in our dining room- not that we’re seeing anything near Fall temperatures here in Houston.

Big Boy Room Paint

Big Boy Room Paint

I hope you all enjoyed a nice long weekend!  I made some progress on my son’s room, including changing up the wall color and adding a colored ceiling.  You might remember his nursery walls were light blue “Blissful Blue” by Sherwin Williams and the ceiling was “Divine White” also by Sherwin Williams.

Now, he’s got darker walls “Indi-go-go” by Benjamin Moore (color matched at Sherwin Williams) and a light blue ceiling “Honest Blue” by Sherwin Williams.  There is a Sherwin Williams near my house, so that’s where I get all my paint.

Below are the paint formulas if you’re interested.

Layered Cowhide Rugs

Layered Cowhide Rugs

I’m a big fan of the layered rug look, especially when one of the rugs is a cowhide.  I have a large greyish cowhide rug from Z Gallerie that was previously in our living room, on top of a sisal rug on our hardwood floors.

But, I also liked the look and feel of the cowhide rug in my office.  Liking the rug in both places, I ordered another hide rug (this time a spotted leopard cowhide rug from Jersey Road) for my office.  But, ug, it was way too small for the room!  I LOVE the rug though and it didn’t come larger,

Staircase Makeover

Staircase Makeover

Forever making changes to our home and that is the fun and creative part.  The curved staircase is one of my favorite features in this house, but it has been a little challenging for me to decorate over the years.  November and December are easy because the space is perfect for the Christmas tree.  January to October, hmmm . . . .

This weekend I finally hung some mirrors on the wall.  I tried one large starburst mirror at first, but it wouldn’t hang because of the curve and where the hook needed to be, so I ended up using a trio of smaller mirrors.

Small Steps Everyday

Small Steps Everyday

via A House in the Hills

All those little, difficult, kickyourass steps are worth it.  Over time, they add up to a lot of distance.  And only you can take your steps so YOU OWN THEM.  No one can take your steps away.  Be proud of them.  I’m proud of you.  Today I am thankful for every woman who has written to me and trusted me with her story, her struggle and who has taken the time to encourage me too.  I think we need each other.

I had a beautiful breakfast with my two close girlfriends this weekend and it was long overdue.

Leopard Print Stool Makeover

Leopard Print Stool Makeover

You’ve seen these regular wooden stools everywhere I’m sure.

I recently transformed ours into this:

I originally bought the stools from Overstock or Amazon for our bar counter.  But, they weren’t the right height and I never returned them, always planning someday for a makeover.  They’ve moved around the house, most recently ending up in our upstairs hallway.

I always knew I wasn’t fond of the reddish-brown color as it clashes with our floors.  After painting the doors grey, and adding some animal print rugs to my office,

Caprese Salad

Caprese Salad

Sometimes, like last night, all I wanted to eat was a big fresh bowl of caprese salad.  Tomatoes, mozzaralla, basil and olive oil.  Can it get any simpler or more beautiful?

I buy cherry tomatoes, mozzarella balls in liquid, and fresh basil for the best tasting salad.

Slice the tomatoes in half with a serrated knife.

Then the cheese.  Try not to eat it all before it gets into the bowl.

Tear up some fresh basil and toss it all together.  Add a sprinkle of olive oil and a dash of balsamic vinegar.

Essential Daily Vitamins for Women

Essential Daily Vitamins for Women

I think we all know it’s important to take vitamins, but we don’t always do it.  At least I didn’t.  Part of the reason is because it feels like there is so much information on vitamins, I don’t know what to take or where to start.  So, the easy thing to do is simply take a multivitamin and be done with it- if you remember to take it.

I’ve been researching what Dr. Oz recommends because I trust his information and can understand what he’s saying.  Here’s what I found he suggests and what I’m currently taking.

Operation Office Organization

Operation Office Organization

The best thing about a long weekend?  A short work week!  I hope you are refreshed and had a great weekend.  My family (Dad included) rented a boat on Sunday and spent a few wonderful hours on the lake.  I had some moments where I just soaked it all in that we were all together and enjoying this day, enjoying life.  How beautiful.  Back at home on Monday, I spent a good chunk of the day getting down and dirty with my office closet.  A major clean out and reorganization was necessary.  Did you do any cleaning and organizing over the weekend?
