Slow Cooker Lentil Soup

Slow Cooker Lentil Soup

My son and I were home alone on Sunday and had one of those super lazy days where we stayed in pajamas all day long and didn’t leave the house.  What a nice treat complete with hard rainfall, cozy covers, and movies on t.v.  Around 11:00 a.m. I got up and threw together a simple slow cooker lentil soup and enjoyed the yummy aroma emanating from the crockpot throughout the afternoon.  It’s really nice to know that dinner’s cooking and you don’t have to worry about it later- gives you more time in your day and something to look forward to that night.

Pretty Pumpkins // Decorating Pumpkins without Carving

Pretty Pumpkins // Decorating Pumpkins without Carving

The end of the year is almost upon us! Who else is surprised that tomorrow is October? Here in Houston, we are anxiously awaiting that first cool front, and our temperatures are expected to drop 10 degrees this weekend!

As a kid, I remember going to the pumpkin patch this time of year with my family and picking out the perfect pumpkin and coming home and carving it with my Dad.  He would carefully cut the top off in a perfect circle and my brothers and I would dig out the guts and seeds.  Gooey goodness.

Baked Fish in Parchment Paper // Fish en Papillote

Baked Fish in Parchment Paper // Fish en Papillote

Fish isn’t necessarily one of my go-to meals, but I eat it because it’s good for me and is a change from my typical diet.  One of the easiest ways I know to bake fish is in parchment paper.  En Papillote  (pah-pee-YOHT) means to steam small portions of food in a wrapper.

Most recipes I’ve seen for Fish en Papillote combine onion, zucchini, carrot and garlic.  You chop the veggies, season with olive oil and salt and pepper, and arrange them on top of your fish with sliced lemon slices and sprigs of thyme or other aromatics.

Happy Fall Banner // Free Printable

Happy Fall Banner // Free Printable

Something about this time of year makes me want to cozy up inside and make things- delicious food, yummy drinks, decorations and crafty things.  I guess it’s because we spend so much time outdoors and at the pool during the summer and Fall represents time to start coming together indoors and hibernating.

I stumbled across a delightful new DIY blog, 30 Handmade Days and got some new inspiration.  I adore this free printable FALL banner she created. Just use rope, string,

ASICS Running Shoe

ASICS Running Shoe

I’m surprised I’ve had this blog so long and haven’t talked athletic shoes with you!  My all-time favorite running/workout shoe is ASICS.  I’ve been wearing them for years because they are so well constructed, fit my foot perfectly, no weird arch, and plenty of cushion.   I’m crazy for this new design series (GT) in bright pink and orange.

My current shoe is the ASICS Women’s GT-1000 in silver, purple, and aqua.  I found mine at Academy, but they also sell them on Amazon.  At about $100 ($62.60 on Amazon with free shipping),

Rustic Glam Fall Mantle

Rustic Glam Fall Mantle

Was the first day of Fall as gorgeous in your city as it was here?!  We got to experience a significant drop in temperatures and a morning without humidity- pretty near perfect!  In honor of the official start of Fall, I put together a “rustic glam” mantle.  Of course, we don’t really have a true mantle, so our console table subbed in.

I got some glam inspiration from this little fox I found at Target.   Have you seen him yet? I passed him up a couple of times, but recently couldn’t resist. Foxes are the new owl.

Faith

Faith

This blog began as a spin-off from my home decor/organization blog, Honey We’re Home.  I wanted a place to write about health and fitness, and share with people how a busy, working mom attempts to live a healthy lifestyle.  But, there are more aspects than just clean eating and exercise that are critical to living really well.  It’s a combination of relationships (with girlfriends, kids, parents, coworkers, and significant others), career, financial freedom, creativity, play, hobbies, and finding joy, being authentic.  We are physical, emotional, sexual, and spiritual creatures.  For me, a major component of life includes my faith in God and my relationship with Him.

Affordable & Original Abstract Art // T30 Gallery + Bedding Options

While browsing Etsy for abstract art recently, I came across an artist whose work I really admired.  CarolLynn is an artist in Sacramento, California with Etsy Shop T30 Gallery.  I emailed her about a piece I was interested in, and asked if she could do a similar painting in a larger size (36×36) and she obliged.  Here’s what I was looking at online- a very calming mix of blueish-grey and sandy taupe.

And here’s how the finished piece looks hanging in the bedroom.  (I got to see a preview of the finished product online before accepting it.)

The zebra pillow is from West Elm (here’s something similar),

Nail Polish + Outfits

Nail Polish + Outfits

I have to admit, the funky nail art trend that is popular now has never really been my thing- even though I kinda like it on other people. But hot solid nail color I’m definitely down for, perhaps with an accent ring nail color.  I’ve been seeing so many amazing hues lately, I’m looking forward to trying them all!

I picked my Top 4 (because I couldn’t narrow it to 3) colors and paired them with an outfit that I thought would be cute for Fall.  Then, I shopped Nordstrom to find the looks for us! I also went to OPI’s website (which I’d never previously visited) and it’s so cool- you can “try on”

Spin Class

Spin Class

Are y’all doing spin class?  I haven’t done it in a really long time and miss it!  I’ve been doing most of my cardio on the stairmaster lately and was thinking of other cardio I could do for variety and spinning came to mind.  The only bad thing about spinning is that you usually have to be a member of a gym to take a class or go to a studio.  I’m going to find a class at my gym soon.

I’ve found that the best classes are the ones with an instructor whose style you like the best and who plays the best music.

DIY Fall Floral Wreath

DIY Fall Floral Wreath

Are you ready for a super quick and easy DIY project?  A faux hydrangea floral wreath is in order!  I made it with just a couple of inexpensive items and it took about 15 minutes to put together.

You can find the flowers at any craft store, Hobby Lobby sells them often for 50% off.  I used 9 flowers, 3 of each color, and a large straw wreath form.  A wire cutter was used to cut the stems and scissors to make a small hole in the wreath form for where the flowers would go.  The steps are illustrated below.

Organized Magazines

Organized Magazines

There’s only a couple more things to do in my office before a tour of the whole room is in order.  Last week, I showed you how I recovered my aqua magazine holders with gift wrap and now I’ve updated them with bookplate labels. The aqua wasn’t quite right for my new color scheme and I’m a huge fan of the Rifle paper I used.

I’m big on magazines, especially in the summer because I’ll take them to the pool, flip through during long cardio sessions at the gym, or for easy reading before bed. Most of my magazines are given to a friend after I read,

You Can Do This

You Can Do This

Most days I’m a very loving and kind person.  Sometimes I need tough love.  When I saw this quote on Pinterest it really resonated with me.

No sweet words of encouragement.  No gentle reminders to take care of yourself.  Just straight-up truth.   I needed that.  Maybe you do too.

Leopard Fabric Pumpkin

Leopard Fabric Pumpkin

We’re starting to see pumpkins piling up outside the grocery store- guess Fall is upon us!  I always get a kick out of how many varieties there are and especially love the miniature ones.

I had plans for this big guy though- I wanted to turn him into a leopard fabric pumpkin, kinda like those plushy velvet ones I’ve seen in years’ past.  I had leopard fabric left over from my wooden stool project.

I had my doubts as to how this was going to turn out.

Top Washi Tape Projects

Y’all know that I’ve fallen for washi tape in a big way this year.  It’s easy to use and remove, colorful, fun, and a quick way to add personality to almost anything.  I’ve built up a pretty big collection and have used it all over the house.

Keyboard

Pencils (use two strips of tape lengthwise)

Kitchen Spatulas

Even the pipes under the sink!

Paper Straw Arrows
