Stacked/Layered Bracelets

Stacked/Layered Bracelets

Are you a fan of the stacked (or layered) bracelet trend?  I never thought I’d get on board because I tend to be a minimalist with jewelry and it used to bug me when bracelets banged against each other on my arm.  But, I love the look on other women, so I’ve been giving it a try.  I think I’m converted.  Below is a quick instagram pic (@Honeywerehome) from earlier this week.

Rifle Paper Magazine Holders

Rifle Paper Magazine Holders

I’m forever rearranging the items in my home office bookshelf.  I have the large Ikea Expedit which is perfect for housing books, containers, photos, decorative objects, etc.  Each cube is 12×12 so there’s lots of space to play with.

While the contents of the bookshelf were generally very colorful, it used to be dominated by aqua.  Now, I’m going for more pinks, blushes and golds in the bookshelf.  Not wanting to purchase more magazine files, I opted to cover my existing aqua ones in wrapping paper.

I’m a huge fan of Rifle Paper Co.

Ultimate Workout Playlist (60 Songs)

Ultimate Workout Playlist (60 Songs)

I’m a huge proponent of using music in your workouts to help get you going.  Even on my most low energy, depressed days, when I’m literally dragging myself to the gym or park with a head full of self-talk like, “Just WALK for 15 minutes- you don’t have to run or lift weights.” If, when I get there, I put my ipod on, after a few minutes, I can’t help but start running or working out harder.  Like music magic.

Lyrics, tempo, beat, and rhythm get me in the mood to work out.  I like booty-shakin’ music, R&B,

Ready for Fall?

Ready for Fall?

With kids heading back to school, it’s hard not to think about fall on the horizon.  In Houston, we stay hot and humid for so long that we really welcome those first cool, crisp days, but they are still a long way off for us.  Please tell me if you are already busting out your lightweight sweaters . . .

Tasty Fruit & Veggie Protein Smoothies

Tasty Fruit & Veggie Protein Smoothies

When I did the Jamie Eason 12-week trainer, one thing she recommended was drinking a protein shake within 30 minutes of working out to aid in muscle growth and recovery.  I do this pretty religiously, making my shake as soon as I get home or ordering one at the gym if I’m not coming straight home after my workout.  Protein is essential for muscle development and recovery, but you can get the adequate amount from whole foods, like meat, fish, beans, egg whites, nuts, and milk too.

I’m usually a protein powder plus water and a few ice cubes kind of girl,

Happy Friday to you!  Do you have any fun plans for the weekend?  I get to finally get a desperately needed haircut and we have a cute kiddo birthday to attend.  And that’s it!  I’m cherishing weekends like this that aren’t jam packed with errands and activities where it’s go, go, go.  I’m trying to slow down and keep visiting with my parents and cook and exercise more. I’m talking about my current cardio routine on Honey We’re Healthy today if you want to check it out.  I know there will be weekends in the future that are crazy busy and when that time comes,

Time to Get Movin’ Again // Cardio & Bike Riding

Whenever I’ve let exercise slip to the back burner, when I start back up, I like to add in several sessions of hard cardio to get my heart pumping again.  This week, I’ve been doing 50 minutes at a time in the gym: 20 minutes on the treadmill at level 4 (a brisk walk), then 30 minutes on the stair climber at level 60-70.  I make sure to bring my ipod or a magazine to keep me company for that amount of time.  I also cover the clock on the machine so I’m not aware of how slowly the time passes and just check periodically.

Jamie Eason Meatloaf Muffins

Jamie Eason Meatloaf Muffins

When I’m looking for something healthy and high in protein that I can eat over and over to help lean out, (fitness model) Jamie Eason’s meatloaf muffins fit the bill.  I made them for dinner, then had them for the next several lunches and dinners until they were gone.  A serving size is 1 or 2 for me, depending on how hungry I am and what I’m having with it. This recipe makes 12.

Ingredients

*Quaker Oats – Quick 1 Minute – Dry, 1 cup
egg white, fresh, 3 large (I used All Whites)
Onions,

How to Paint Perfect Wide Stripes

How to Paint Perfect Wide Stripes

A bold, wide stripe on the walls makes a dramatic impact.  Our foyer needed some pizzazz, so for an inexpensive fix (a can of paint) and cheap labor (me), I added a wide, 16 inch dark gray (Sherwin Williams Urbane Bronze) horizontal stripe to the wall.  What do you think?

I wanted to break down the step-by-step for you in case you wanted to do something similar in your home.  Here’s the blank slate I was working with.

For this project, you’ll need:

Paint and paint tray
Small paintbrush or small roller
Large roller
Ruler
Leveler
Pencil
Frog Tape
Ladder

Still

Still

As you know, life is full of ebbs and flows.  Although I always exercise at least semi-regularly, there are times when I’m super dedicated and work out intensely and there are times when other things demand my attention and there just aren’t enough hours or energy in the day.  At those times, I may let exercise slip, but I pay for it and don’t feel as good.

I’ve had a lot going on with work, relationships, my dad’s illness, my son starting pre-school, my blog, and on and on.  We all have struggles so I know you can relate.

Using Social Media/Pinterest to Grow Your Blog & Brand

As difficult and stressful as life can be sometimes, I am so thankful for this thing called blogging and the blogging community of wonderful people that I have been blessed to have met through it.  One of the main reasons I was looking forward to speaking at the Haven blog conference was to be able to get to spend some face to face time with people I mainly keep up with through their blogs.

Although I wasn’t able to go, I followed along on Instagram (@honeywerehome) and today, you can read recaps of the conference at A Thoughtful Place,

Dining Room Decor Updates // World Market Everett Foyer Table

First things first, wishing my parents a very happy anniversary today!  Thank you for your prayers for my dad, we have had some encouraging news lately and it has felt so good.  This illness has really brought us closer together and for that, I’m thankful.  It has been a very difficult time, but I believe in the power of prayer, and from the bottom of my heart thank you for lifting my dad and family up.

You might remember my dining room pillow dilemma awhile back when I bought a yellow pair and a brown pair and couldn’t decide which I liked better for the room.

Painted Dark Grey Doors

Painted Dark Grey Doors

Ever since painting the half-bath door glossy dark gray, I’ve been wanting to paint the doors in the upstairs hallway the same way.  Painting doors isn’t as daunting as you might think, and the impact adds some nice drama to a space.  Here’s how the doors looked originally:

And below is how they look after two coats of paint- Sherwin Williams Brown Fox in semi-gloss for extra shine.

The paint color is a warm dark gray with a hint of brown in it.

I painted these doors off the hinges,

Blog Friends

My friend Cassie (Hi Sugarplum) is the first “blog friend” I made, and when I was on my way to meet her in person for the first time, it felt like I was driving to an internet blind date.  But, we hit it off right away — it’s impossible not to immediately like her — she is genuine and smart and too cute for words.  Even though she is really funny and witty, she is also someone you can be completely honest and real with.  I’ve come to truly appreciate our friendship and her point of view/support when I need it.

Etsy and online sources are a great find for affordable art and I finally had the chance to order a few pieces when thinking about a gallery wall for my office.  I bought a collection of typography, abstract art, watercolor, and illustrations.   I don’t have that much wall space in my office though since the Ikea Expedit takes up a big chunk of the largest wall, I have a large window, and three doors.  So, only two of my prints are actually hanging on the wall!

This “Love Never Fails” print is from online retailer Lara Casey Shop in gold foil lettering (8×10) hung inside a matted Target frame.

Painted Media Cabinet & Bookshelf Styling

Painted Media Cabinet & Bookshelf Styling

Painting the back of our media cabinet was one of the first projects I tackled when we moved into this house over three years ago.  I chose Jamestown Blue and painted the cabinets mostly while my then 4 month-old slept.  It’s a pretty calming blue that worked well for a long time, but I was ready for a change- to dark gray.  I considered having the whole cabinet painted, but the quote was too high and I’m not confident enough in my painting skills to tackle such a big focal piece in our home by myself.  But, I can handle painting the back cabinet walls alone.

Office Updates // Inspiration Board and Rattan Chair

Ever since switching up the paint in my home office from light yellow to white (Divine White by Sherwin Williams), I’ve been making changes to the room and it’s finally coming together.  I decided on a color palette of black, gold, pink, blush, and white — which I am also considering for a blog redesign.

via Saffron Avenue

I put together an inspiration board filled with these colors and added it to a nook in my office, just to the right of my desk. You can see how I made the inspiration board HERE with the black and white polka dot fabric.
