Media Cabinet Organization

Media Cabinet Organization

Continuing with my January organizing theme, I’ve been digging deep into those pockets in my house that have been neglected and in dire need of some organizational attention.  We are fortunate to have a large built-in media cabinet in the living room with lots of storage.  It’s got four deep drawers and four cabinets with double shelves.   It looks so nice from the outside . . .

But inside was a complete mess!

I’m so glad that I finally got in there and cleaned it out!  I ended up with an empty drawer and cabinet when I was finished!

Before & After Success Story (Jenna of Small Fry Blog)

I’ve been pestering my friend Jenna (of Small Fry Blog) to allow me to post about her weight loss and fit-lifestyle gain for awhile now and she finally gave in!  She’s a mom to two precious boys and looks younger than ever.  I’m so proud of her and thrilled that she is allowing me to share her story with you all here.

Not only does she look amazing, Jenna feels better than ever after making some serious changes to her diet and embracing a lifestyle of exercise.  I think there is nothing better than REAL LIFE examples of regular women who are committed to changing their health for the better and then get to show off their results as a testimony to the sweat and hard work it took to get there.

Updating Your Home Using What You’ve Got

Updating Your Home Using What You’ve Got

Especially at the start of a new year, when one of my goals is to save money, I try to make updates in my home that don’t cost much, if anything.  Are you doing the same thing at your place right now?  One way to change up a space is to “shop your house” and move things around.  Sometimes, once we put furniture, rugs, framed photos, etc. in a certain spot in our home, we think they have to live there forever.  Well, part of the fun is mixing things up and just seeing how they look in different places.

Fabric Covered Books & Washi Tape Bookmarks & Magnets

I hope you all had a great weekend!  I’ve written “2013” a few times now and I think it’s finally sinking in that we’re in a new year.  And I couldn’t be happier to welcome it.  This weekend, I organized a few more parts of the house and just focused on getting over this lingering cold.  A few weeks ago, I was feeling the urge to do something crafty and found some coordinating fabric to wrap some old books with.  I adore how the project turned out and wanted to share it with you.

I did a few books in a bold fabric with pinks and oranges .

Marina of Yummy Mummy blog is one of my favorite food and photography bloggers.  She is such a genuine person and creates beautifully healthy and seasonal food.  She recently posted her healthy banana blueberry muffins and I can’t wait to make them.  My son and I both love blueberry muffins and these have only 206 calories and 7 fat grams per serving.  Go HERE for the full post and recipe.

I really think you’ll enjoy her recipes.  Let me know if you visit!

DIY Upholstered Headboard with Nailhead Trim

DIY Upholstered Headboard with Nailhead Trim

I am smitten with this DIY upholstered headboard with nailhead trim that Freckles Chick made.

I wanted to share it with you because she has one of the easiest-to-follow tutorials I’ve seen and her version is super inexpensive.  Her headboard fabric is actually a drapery panel from Target’s clearance section!  Genius girl!  Go HERE for the full post.

My friend Jenna (who helped redesign my home blog, Honey We’re Home) is a real inspiration.  She committed last year to losing weight and is now 40 pounds down and looking and feeling great!  She has teamed up with a couple other gals and has a children’s lifestyle blog called Small Fry.

They are giving away a 15-day online course to Proscribe Nutrition (a $149 value), a class to help you make healthy changes, kick unhealthy habits and provide you meal plans- go here for a sample post of sample meals.

Arugula Salad with Apples, Marcona Almonds, and Honey Roasted Cipollini Onions

I’m sure many of us are starting the new year with fresh resolve to eat well and make positive changes to better our health.  In some ways, the holiday sweets are a blessing because I always feel a little in need of sugar detox by January 1st!  You know you need more vegetables when you start craving them and all I could think about when we got back from our holiday travels was a big fresh salad.

I tossed this together with mostly things I had on hand,

Home Organization (DIY Toy Labels)

Home Organization (DIY Toy Labels)

Try as I might not to overwhelm my young son with too many presents at Christmas, he has extended family- you know who you are, ahem, GRANDPARENTS, who love to spoil the little guy.  They give in love and are just delighted to be able to give.

This Christmas, my son slept until 8:30 (he normally gets up around 7), leaving two very anxious parents sitting on the couch waiting for him to wake up and see what Santa brought.

When he finally woke up, he spent over an hour playing with his new train . .

Workout at Home (Fitness DVDs)

Workout at Home (Fitness DVDs)

Although I prefer to workout at the gym or go for a jog in the park, I know many people like to work out at home or have no other option.  When I announced I was starting a fitness blog on Honey We’re Home, lots of you wrote in and told me about your at-home workouts that you enjoyed and saw results with.

Since I haven’t done any fitness DVD’s, I can’t give a personal review, but I was hoping that you could share in the comments section what DVD’s you like and what you had good experiences with.

Home Organization in the New Year – Starting with a Clean Refrigerator

Happy New Year friends! I hope you rang in the new year in whatever way felt right to you.  For some, it’s glitz and glamour and high heels with a midnight champagne toast, for others, it’s a night in alone or with the kids that may or may not include staying up until midnight.  I’ve done both in the past, but this year it was the latter- home on the couch nursing a little cold.  I’m okay, nothing extra sleep won’t cure.  I really appreciated reading your comments on my “Less // More in 2013” post.
