Organized Coupons

Organized Coupons

This post title might be a little misleading because I’m not talking about grocery coupons, I cannot keep track of them at all.  But, what I DO use coupons for all the time is clothes!  In fact, with all the coupons that come in the mail these days, I make a point not to shop unless I have a coupon or discount code.

The problem was that I didn’t have a good system for keeping track of them.  I tried keeping them in my wallet, but the coupons were too many to fit inside a wallet pocket.  Then, I just piled them into this small zippered case,

My Live Fit Week 5 Recap

My Live Fit Week 5 Recap

If you’ve been following along, you know I’m doing the Jamie Eason Live Fit 12 Week Training Program.  I should have completed Week 5 two weeks ago, but a cold knocked me out for a week, so I had to wait to start Week 5 last week.  I’m happy to say that I completed it nearly perfectly and it feels so good!  At the end of this week, I am really starting to see visible changes in my figure.  My arms and shoulders and getting more defined and my waist is diminishing!!  I can see more tone in my legs too:)

I have started taking a Branched Chain Amino Acid supplement (I add 3 tablespoons in my water bottle) while I work out.

Ordering Healthier at Starbuck’s

Ordering Healthier at Starbuck’s

I’m right there with many of you who get excited when Starbuck’s releases their Fall beverages each year.  They really get me giddy at Christmas with their bright red cups, but right now, it’s the Salted Caramel Mocha that I’m craving.

Starbuck’s is one of many food retailers that provide their nutrition information online if you dare to check.  You may not want to see the calorie and fat content of the SCM- it’s pretty bad!  If you order a grande “medium” it’s 420 calories and 16 grams of fat, plus 290 grams of sodium, and 56 grams of sugar.  Ouch!

Little Thrills (Ironing Board Cover)

Little Thrills (Ironing Board Cover)

Hi everyone!  Did you have a good weekend?  I got to spend time with just me and my favorite little guy since my husband was out of town.  It was awesome!  He’s at that absolutely DELIGHTFUL age right now where we talk and play and I just enjoy him so much!

* * * * *

If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile, you know that “little thrills” are small, inexpensive items in our lives that just make us happy.  My little thrill today comes in the form of an ironing board cover- who knew they could be so cute?!

Office Changes are Coming

Office Changes are Coming

Now that I’m working from home more, I’m spending a ton of time in my home office.  I feel blessed to have a whole room in our house to myself, especially one that has a big window that overlooks some gorgeous, lush green trees.

I’ve been working a lot at that desk (from Z Gallerie) in the afternoons, and the glare on the computer was getting to me.

So I turned the desk around to face the window.

I like it so much better!  I can’t believe I didn’t turn the desk around earlier.

Maggie’s Workout (My BFF)

Maggie’s Workout (My BFF)

On Monday, I introduced you to Maggie, otherwise known as my BFF, and shared her absolutely killer physique and eating regimen.  She works hard to stay in shape, and today, we’re giving you all the details on the workout she did to initially reduce her body fat and gain such lean muscle mass.

Remember, it took her five months to lose 5.5 percent body fat (going from 17.5% to 12%).  During that time, she was working out 5-6 days a week.  Back then, Maggie worked part-time, so it was admittedly a little easier to get to the gym on her “off”

My Top 5 Workout Essentials

My Top 5 Workout Essentials

There are a few things I always have with me at the gym.

Music is a great boost for your mood and energy while working out, a true essential if you ask me.  I’ve got lots of songs on my iPod that really get me going and give me that extra push I need to do a strong workout.  Music is also great for when you are doing cardio and you need to get through “one more song” . . . again and again.  When my battery dies and I’m left without it,

Blog Organization Binder

Blog Organization Binder

Since launching a second blog, taking on contract legal work, participating at my son’s school, and working out nearly every day, my life has suddenly felt overwhelmed.  Then, I got sick.  Our bodies tell us when we need to slow down and regroup, don’t they?  Over the weekend, I spent a lot of time resting, then, feeling better, got motivated to start clearing out lots of places in our house that really needed it.

I knew I needed a better way to organize all the stuff that goes into running two blogs, but hadn’t quite figured out how to arrange everything until I was reading Jen’s blog this week.

Food Preparation Day

Food Preparation Day

One of the best things I can do in a week to ensure healthy meals are available and ready to go is prepare a batch ahead of time, usually on Sunday evening.  Then, I like to portion them out into containers so that all I have to do is heat them up.  A basic trio of ingredients eaten constantly in our house is grilled chicken, brown rice, and green veggies like zucchini.  This time, I also added black beans.

For me, one large chicken breast is sliced and divided into two portions- one is usually too much for me.  I boil one cup of dry brown rice- it yields about 3 cups or so cooked.

Vitamins

Vitamins

We always hear that it’s important to take a multivitamin each day, but I wonder how many of us are actually doing that.  I admit to continually falling off of my daily vitamin routine.  I found a vitamin I really like though, its a GUMMY! and my son and I take our vitamins together in the morning, so it helps me to remember.

Dr. Oz says that we only need 100% of the daily value of the 12 essential vitamins and minerals, with iron for pre-menopausal women.  He also recommends taking half in the morning and half at night to maximize absorption.

Pizza (Fig, Proscuitto, & Mozzarella)

I’m so pleased to see that my best friend’s fitness journey is resonating with you!  I pinned her abs on Pinterest and it’s fun to see people repinning:)  My fear was that someone might feel intimidated by her  extremely fit physique and then get discouraged, and I definitely do not want that to happen.  My goal is to ENCOURAGE and uplift you, while at the same time, sharing knowledge and insight into what we can do to really change our bodies, and our lives, for the better. Maggie said that she was encouraged too, and even more motivated to come up with some new recipes that I can share here.

Master Bedroom Update (Mirrored Nightstands)

Master Bedroom Update (Mirrored Nightstands)

Mirrored nightstands have been on my wish list for a very long time, and I finally took the plunge and ordered a pair from Pottery Barn (the Park Mirrored Nightstand).  They arrived on Friday and made me one happy girl!  (They are catalog/internet only).

They really make the whole room feel brighter and more glamorous.  I also like the sleekness of the drawers and how clean they look with the straight ledge pulls as opposed to knobs.  We have room for wider nightstands, but these seemed to be the ones I liked the best.

Our Fall Porch

Our Fall Porch

Our front porch is looking more Autum-like these days with a collection of pumpkins in various colors, shapes, and sizes.  I put some of them in bushels from Michaels and added hay from Hobby Lobby.

Have you gussied up your front porch?

Gaining and Maintaining Lean Muscle (My BFF)

Gaining and Maintaining Lean Muscle (My BFF)

My best friend for 16 years, Maggie, is really a fitness inspiration.  Her body is the envy of all of our friends and we are always asking her for fitness advice.  Over the weekend, I sat down with Maggie for a lengthy chat about her lifestyle, including her eating habits and workout routines, along with what vitamins and supplements she uses.  I think she has a lot to share about the “mystery” behind what it takes to get a super lean body.

Her physique and lifestyle may be more extreme than most people desire (she maintains about a 14% body fat and carries a cooler with her food to work everyday,

Black Beans & Rice with Apple Salsa (via The Chronicles of Home)

You should have seen me last week, sitting at Starbuck’s and reading emails/comments from readers after this blog just launched.  I was so happy to see that people were reading, but suddenly, I felt a little overwhelmed thinking, “Uh oh, what have I gotten myself into, trying to keep up with two blogs (researching, writing, photographing for Honey We’re Healthy, and also doing home projects and photographing and writing them up for Honey We’re Home), responding to reader emails and comments, taking care of my family, exercising 5 days a week, shopping and eating healthy, keeping the house clean and laundry done,

Chocolate Protein Brownies

Chocolate Protein Brownies

I made these “brownies” over the weekend for the first time, and could not believe how good they are!  The consistency is actually more like a cake, but you don’t have to feel guilty about eating this cake.  The recipe comes from Jamie Eason and I put in italics how I tweaked it.  I think the next time I bake them I’ll leave out the sugar and see how that tastes. (*update, I left out the sugar completely and added a 1/4 – 1/2 cup of dark chocolate chips and it’s even better!)

Ingredients

1 cup Oat Flour (I ground oats finely in a food processor)
2 scoops Vanilla Whey Protein Powder (I used chocolate protein powder)
½ tsp Baking Soda
¼ tsp Salt
3 tbsp Baking Cocoa
