Halloween Fun

Halloween Fun

I hope y’all had a great Halloween!  Ours was pretty low key, just visiting with our neighbors and taking the adorable kids trick-or-treating.  James decided he wanted to be “construction” instead of his pre-planned “circus ringmaster” at the last minute, so we improvised.

I really adore these kids and they had so much fun going to each door and yelling, “Trick or Treat!”

I can’t believe it’s November already!

Office Decor Updates

Office Decor Updates

Y’all know that I’ve been working on a few updates to my home office and I’m thrilled with the difference painting the walls made.  I went with Sherwin Williams Divine White- the same color as our trim and cabinets throughout the house.  It’s a fresh, blank canvas.

Feeling like I wanted a more sophisticated look for the room, I am going with mostly black and white, a few pops of color in flowers and in the bookcase, with animal print elements for added flair.  I originally planned to buy a leopard print rug, but ended up moving our cowhide rug up there instead.

My Live Fit (WEEK 7) Recap

My Live Fit (WEEK 7) Recap

Ah, these workouts are getting harder!  But I think it’s because I’m working full-time now, so just getting the workouts in is a challenge.  I’m determined to stick with it though.  Week 7 was the worst week as far as food goes.  On Wednesday (the day before I went to Dallas to visit Cassie and Courtney), I went out to eat and got a big cheeseburger and skipped the gym.  In Dallas, I didn’t work out, so on Sunday, I had to fit in two workouts (back and the second leg day).  Also in Dallas,

Weekend Recap

Weekend Recap

On Thursday and Friday I got to hang out with two of my favorite girlfriends Cassie (Hi Sugarplum) and Courtney (A Thoughtful Place).  We are long past referring to each other as “mybloggerfriend” and now are simply, friends.  Good ones.  The kind that go shopping at West Elm and end up sitting on one of their couches chatting for way too long, then finally remember to look around. 🙂 This was such a treat because we are all in different cities and it just so happened that Court’s husband had to come to Cassie’s town for work,

What NOT to Eat & the Healthy Alternative

What NOT to Eat & the Healthy Alternative

Sometimes it’s easier to avoid the foods that are easily identified as “bad” for us and replace them with something nutritious.  Foods I rarely eat or avoid altogether are:

I never drink soda.  I guess, lucky for me, I never liked it that much.

Example:  I remember hearing Dr. Oz say on Oprah that if a person who regularly drinks soft drinks stopped, in a year they would lose 15 pounds!

Healthy Alternative: I keep my water bottle with me at all times and don’t buy any soda at the store.  If I want a cold caffeinated drink,

Egg Scramble

Egg Scramble

Lately, I’ve been working out after work, then come home and drink my protein shake.  About 45 minutes later, after I’ve showered, I like to eat this Egg Scramble.  It’s also great in the morning since it cooks fast and is filling.

I spray Pam in a skillet, add a small chopped slice of turkey ham, bit of diced onion, a few cherry tomatoes, and a bunch of spinach.  After the spinach cooks down a little, I add one egg and about 1/2 – 1 cup of All Whites (depending on how hungry I am).  I just keep stirring until it’s all cooked,

Cozamia Art in the Guest Room

Cozamia Art in the Guest Room

Our guest room makeover lost steam somewhere between summer, changing jobs, updating my home office, working out 5 days a week, and because I got “stuck” with exactly what I wanted to do with it.   My plans to order fabric and make my own drapes didn’t work out because I ordered the fabric online and, although pretty, in person it wasn’t what I had in mind.  I ended up buying premade drapes from World Market in a dark aqua velvet.  They are very plush and pretty, but I still need to hem them.

I brought home the Cozamia art (Lucid Surf) that hung in my old office and I really like it in here.

My Live Fit (WEEK 6) Recap

My Live Fit (WEEK 6) Recap

Week 6 of the Live Fit Challenge was hard because I’m lifting heavier weight, and because I started a new job, so keeping up with 5 workouts a week was a challenge.  Most days I went after work, but one day, when I had after work commitments, I got my arse up at 5:30 a.m. to get that workout in.  I’m sore!  But not so sore that I can’t move.

Now that Week 6 is over, I’m halfway there. 🙂 I’m scheduled to complete Week 12 on December 1!  I think this will keep me motivated to enjoy the holiday food and desserts,

Daily Time Management Routines

Daily Time Management Routines

Once you proactively DECIDE that you’re going to start working out on a consistent basis, the next logical question is WHEN?  There is so much we have to get done in a day that it can make our heads spin and utterly exhaust us.  Did you see this on Pinterest?

That totally feels like me some days.  I am back to work now, so time management is especially important these days.  I’m going to share some time savers that I’ve been employing lately in my quest to make time for the gym.

Television is the first thing to go and I find it’s the easiest to cut out.

Fabric Lined Expedit Bookshelf

Good morning friends!  If you’ve been following me on Instagram (@honeywerehome), you know I started a new job last week, so by the time you’re reading this I’m probably knee deep in legal motions and trying very hard to look like I’m not still nervous:)

Your input last Friday on what color to paint my home office was very helpful- thank you for weighing in!  The choice was between gray and white and the overwhelming majority of you voted gray, aptly pointing out that my white furniture (desk and bookshelf) would “pop” against a darker color.  I completely agreed with that,

Butternut Squash and Lobster Brown Rice Risotto (via The Chronicles of Home)

I’m giddy typing this next sentence- contributing author, Jennifer of The Chronicles of Home, is back with a beautiful, healthy recipe that features one of my favorite indulgences- lobster!

Risotto doesn’t usually come to mind when brainstorming healthy recipes – starchy white rice, lots of cream and butter – delicious, yes, but not what you want to consume on a regular basis when trying to eat healthy.

So here’s what’s different about this risotto.  There is zero cream or butter in the recipe,

Office Paint Help (Gray or White?)

Office Paint Help (Gray or White?)

I mentioned last week that I was planning to paint my office gray and I just hired a painter! This room has three doors and a window, and frankly, I’m not in the mood to paint it myself.  So, for $100, I’ll save myself all the taping (there’s 3 doors and a window) and let a professional handle it.

But, I need your help picking a paint color, and quickly, since the painter will be here on Saturday!

What color should I go with?  I’m torn between Gray and White.

Originally, I was thinking a light or medium gray,

Organized Coupons

Organized Coupons

This post title might be a little misleading because I’m not talking about grocery coupons, I cannot keep track of them at all.  But, what I DO use coupons for all the time is clothes!  In fact, with all the coupons that come in the mail these days, I make a point not to shop unless I have a coupon or discount code.

The problem was that I didn’t have a good system for keeping track of them.  I tried keeping them in my wallet, but the coupons were too many to fit inside a wallet pocket.  Then, I just piled them into this small zippered case,
