Lamp Makeover with Greek Key Trim

Hi all!  Hope you had a lovely weekend and are ready for a great week.  I kicked off the weekend with a DIY project that took less than 45 minutes- my kind of project!  I transformed a pair of Homegoods lamps with spray paint and Greek Key trim.  I adore the result.

You may recall seeing these lamps before, because they have been through a previous transformation- that I wasn’t crazy about.  They were initially a faux distressed dull tan and I sprayed them navy blue and added a corresponding ribbon.  But even then, I didn’t really love the result.
I was determined to salvage these lamps and spent some time trying to figure out what color would look best, settling on classic black.  Lately, I’ve been impressed with this black spray paint from Restoleum that dries fast with a bit of a glossy sheen.
After spraying the bases black, the shades still looked too bland.  I remembered seeing my friend Emily (A Well Dressed Home) add decorative trim to her lamps and knew that’s just what these needed.

I ordered several yards of black and beige trim from M&J Trimming.  It’s $8 a yard and comes in a variety of other color combinations and sizes.
I cut the trim to fit the top and bottom of each shade and affixed it with fabric glue.  The updated look is so much better than before!
I like it so much I’m considering adding trim to my bedroom lamps too (also a Homegoods find).

  2. The trim is so beautiful, great update! Those hydrangea in the clear vase in between caught my eye as well! So gorgeous. How I wish I could grow them, for now my brown thumb and I have to settle for what friends give us 🙂

  3. So creative, great idea! Love me some spray paint!

Where did you get the console table? I'm in desperate need of one for under my stairs and love yours!

  4. I am a huge fan, girl. The trim really works so well with the color of the shade as well. Hope you all had a good weekend.

  5. I love little updates that make a huge impact! I have some greek key trim I'm planning to add to a lamp shade in my guest room – this post was the push I needed to get that little project done! Thanks!

  6. You sure hit the best transformation of your lamps, love the black and trim on shades. Very sophisticated. What a difference it made. I'll have to attempt something like that as I'm getting pretty bored with lamps we have. Love to be able to make a quick low cost change to anything. So glad you shared.

  7. I liked the blues ones too! But this is very chic and sophisticated. I also wanted to tell you that you might want to try rub-n-buff on the legs of the bench at the end of your bed 🙂 That stuff is the bomb!

  8. Your lamps looks so good — I love that greek key trim! I think I have some lampshades that could use a similar update! And I am totally digging your LOVE sign in the entry! It's perfect there!
