Dinner: A Love Story (Dinner Planning & Organization)

Dinner: A Love Story (Dinner Planning & Organization)

I need all the help I can get with my goal of making healthy family dinners at home.  About two weeks ago, I found a HUGE help in the form of a new book (and new-to-me blog), Dinner, A Love Story.

I hadn’t heard of either until I was browsing one of my favorite sections of the bookstore, the Cooking section.  The cover of the book got my attention, but what kept me reading further was the description on the back about the author and her husband:

Our Summer Mantle (via Kirkland’s)

Our Summer Mantle (via Kirkland’s)

Our mantle naturally seems to get a change of decor with the seasons.  I may be a little late with the Summer Mantle, but there’s nothing like a gift card to Kirkland’s to get your summer decor inspiration on!  (And I’ll be excited to announce a GIVEAWAY to Kirkland’s opportunity for YOU tomorrow!)

Lucky for us there is a Kirkland’s not too far from our house, so after dinner out on Friday, the whole gang headed to Kirkland’s for some summer decor.  On Saturday morning, I got busy changing out the Spring mantle for this new summer version.

Time to Rest and Recoup

Time to Rest and Recoup

A summer cold has knocked me out the last few days, so I guess my body is telling me I need to slow down and rest. My two-year old son keeps seeing me and saying, “Mama’s sleeping.”  “Mama needs to blow her nose.”  He even tries to help by bringing me Kleenex- sweet boy.

Thankfully, I am starting to feel better.  So, Friday and this weekend I will try to slow down and recuperate.  I will prioritize my mile-long to-do list and make SLEEP the #1 priority.

Are YOU getting the rest you need?

What’s in My Bag?

What’s in My Bag?

I believe we can tell a little bit about each other by what we carry in our bags.  I like to keep mine well-organized, but it doesn’t always stay that way.  Every few weeks I have to empty everything out, and get rid of unnecessary papers, receipts, trash, and old snacks for James.  After a thorough purse purge, I feel 10 times better!

Here’s a peek at my “must-haves” that I always carry in my bag:

1 Tory Burch Tote

2 Tory Burch pink Wallet

3 Blog business cards via Made By Girl

4 Kleenex

5 Curel hand lotion

I Heart Organizing Contributor

I Heart Organizing Contributor

A few weeks ago, Jen at I Heart Organizing announced that she was looking for contributors on her blog in an effort to free up some time to focus on projects she’s working on and to give her more family time this summer.  This is the same Jen you may have seen on Pinterest with the awesome playroom she created for her kids.

Isn’t that gorgeous, bright, and oh, so perfectly organized?!  You really need to check out the whole thing to get the full details and see the rest of the room.

End of the Bed Bench (under $300)

End of the Bed Bench (under $300)

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I was looking for a bench to put at the end of the bed, and ended up finding one for under $300 at Overstock.  It’s the Renate Coffee Table, which isn’t actually a bench, but a coffee table as the name states.  That being said, it’s a little wider than I expected, but I still think it works.  I did try it in the living room too, to see if it looked better there, but decided I liked it in the bedroom better.

I’m impressed with the quality,

4th of July Favorites

Hi all!  Hope your weekend was fabulous!  I spent the weekend at home organizing, organizing, organizing- feels very refreshing!!  I’ll be showing you soon.  In the meantime, I was so happy to see you link up your 4th of July posts in the link party recently.  I got a kick out of seeing all the creative images and have lots of new ideas to implement next year!  I know the 4th has come and gone, but Labor Day is just around the corner, so keep these ideas in mind.

Little Thrills (Fog Linen Work Tray)

Little Thrills (Fog Linen Work Tray)

Just popping in today to share with you a little thrill – a “little thrill” being a sweet something that puts a smile on your face.  It doesn’t have to be a major piece or expensive, just something that means something to you and makes your heart skip a beat.

One of my latest little thrills was discovered in Austin a few weekends ago.  Whenever I’m in that city, I love to sneak a few minutes at this local boutique on 2nd Street (unfortunately I can’t remember the name), that carries all kinds of cool home decor accessories.  This time,

Raspberry Bag for Fall

Raspberry Bag for Fall

Although I’m in the midst of summer fun over here, and nowhere near longing for fall, I cannot help that Nordstrom sent me their Fall catalog and tied me down and forced me to flip through the pages, oogling over fall collections for boots and purses.

I’m really digging this raspberry/pink bag from Tory Burch.  I’ve been carrying a white bag since last winter, so I think I’m in the mood for a statement color soon.   And this bag is a similar shape to the one I have now, which seems to be working for me,

Getting in FRONT of the Camera!

Getting in FRONT of the Camera!

Why is it that I have a million pictures of my son James, about half a million with him and his dad, and a grand total of five pictures of me and him??  Because I’m always the one taking the pictures!! Is it like that for you too?  You’re BEHIND the camera instead of in front of it?  Most of the time when I’m taking pictures, I wouldn’t consider myself “camera ready” but I don’t want that to prevent me from capturing real life moments with my son.

So, I got brave recently and specifically asked my husband to take pictures of me and James together.

Our 4th of July Party

Our 4th of July Party

Happy Monday y’all!  We are back from a short trip to the beach and ready for the week ahead, albeit a little sunburned and with a whole lotta sand still left to clean out of the car.  I hope you enjoyed a wonderful weekend and a festive 4th of July.  The holiday may be over, but I wanted to share some tidbits of our party with you today.

We had a handful of friends and their kiddos over, enjoyed a relaxed afternoon complete with food, drinks, blow up swimming pools, and sparklers galore.  Of course, there had to be some red,

4th of July Party Prep

4th of July Party Prep

Hi all!  I’m writing this at 9:55 p.m. on July 3rd, after having been prepping for our little shindig for the last several hours.  I’ve crashed onto the couch and am so sleepy, but I think we’ve got everything mostly in place and only have last minute food prep to do tomorrow! 🙂

Since this is a “Backyard BBQ” and guests and kiddos will be out in the backyard, I’m most excited that our back patio was cleaned up this afternoon!

We’ve had these outdoor chairs and tables from Wal-Mart (the Better Homes and Garden Collection) for 2 years,

Book Bin on Wheels

Book Bin on Wheels

Furniture and crates on casters is a big look right now.  I’ve seen much better DIYers than myself make them from scratch.  I found ours at One Kings Lane.  It’s a mini wooden crate on steel wheels (that do roll) and I put it to use holding some of James’ books.

His books seem to be everywhere lately.  I keep about half of them downstairs so that we can read in the living room.  But we didn’t have a good place for the books.  When they were stored behind the media cabinet doors, it seemed he forgot about them.
