Our Master Bedroom (In Progress & Plans)

Don’t they say that your bedroom should be your sanctuary, a place where you can go to relax and rejuvenate at the end of the day?  I think our bedroom is on it’s way-although it’s still got a way to go.  Today, I’m showing you how the room looks to date, and discussing some of my future plans.

We made a lot of progress when we swapped out our dark leather bed for a fabric upholstered bed with nailhead trim from Overstock.com.  I framed pages of a botanical art book to create the art on the far right wall.

I showed you a glimpse into this room before, but couldn’t really get a good shot without a wide-angle lens.  I was lucky enough to get one for Mother’s Day, so I hope to show you more wide shots of our home in the future.  For example, here’s the view to the sitting room.  I’m thinking a large, leaning mirror would be pretty against that blank wall.

Our soothing bedding from Restoration Hardware is still a happy part of the room.  I’d like to layer the bedding a little more in the future.
Home Goods has helped furnish the space with the mirror above the bed and the mercury glass lamps.

I like to incorporate books in the decor of every room in our house.

I made a special purchase – peonies – and couldn’t believe how much they bloomed on day two.  Just gorgeous.

Also on my wish list for this room is the Colette bench from Crate & Barrel for the foot of the bed and new bedside tables.  I’m considering these, but still looking:

Pottery Barn $399.00 (24″ wide x 18″ deep x 28″ high)
Overstock.com $216.00 (28.5 inches high x 39.5 inches wide x 17.75 inches deep)

West Elm $399 (32 inch diameter x 30 inches high)
Pottery Barn $299 (26″ diameter, 24.5″ high)
To give you an idea of the look I’m ultimately going for, you might recall some of my favorite bedrooms:

After looking at the photo above, I got to thinking that maybe I should try moving the round, glass table in our living room to the bedroom and see how that looks.  Don’t those tables look similar?
Always a work in progress!

  1. Loving all the changes! I think your round table from downstairs would look great in the space. But, I do love the mirrored pieces as well. Our bedroom is matchy-matchy as far as furniture, and I am ready to break it up with some fun pieces.

  2. I LOVE LOVE LOVE peonies! I bought two bulbs a while back, but have yet to find the time to plant them. I don't think there's a more beautiful flower.

  3. I've got the same inspiration photos pinned! Grey's and whites in the bedroom are so soothing. I say definitely try the side table there. One of my bedside tables is from the living room (wrought iron base with marble top) and it works perfectly!

That crate and barrel bench is on my wishlist too 🙂 but I go back and forth between that and the Resto one: http://www.restorationhardware.com/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=prod1679296&categoryId=search

  4. I like that round table in your living room! I'd love some open, lighter looking tables in my home.

I've seen some of those mirrored tables at Marshalls and Home Goods. They were maybe $100. I thought about but I know hubs would be totally against it and I couldn't think of a good place for them. Maybe I'll put on in my daughter's big girl room in the future.

  5. Such a soft and beautiful room. I've been toying with the idea of converting our headboard to an upholstered one with nailhead trim and yours has me one step closer!

In case you are interested in trying your own hand at a bench for the end of your bed, I recently made a higher profile (wider top to bottom) bench for my kitchen. I'm currently working on a pair of x-leg stools that will have a width more like the Colette bench. If you'd like to see how I made the kitchen bench you can find it at http://thechroniclesofhome.blogspot.com/2012/05/diy-upholstered-bench-with-nailhead.html

And I hope to have the x-leg stools up in the next couple of weeks, which would be a bit more similar to the Colette bench, just smaller.

I'm still new-ish as a blog reader and writer but I really look forward to the peeks inside your home each day. Thanks for sharing your home and life!

  6. Loving the look you're going for. The mirrored side tables and C&B bench at the end of the bed will be great additions. Very serene!

  7. So lovely, Megan and your vision for completing the room is just gorgeous. I especially like the calming colors and silver pieces. One of my inspiration rooms for sure! Had been hoping we'd see more of the room since the new bed post-keep 'em coming.

  8. Gosh, it has lightened up so much. I love it, Megan. The artwork is such a nice touch. I say move the table and try it for sure. Looks so restful in there.

  9. It's looking serene in your bedroom. I love your bedding and think it would look great made the "french" way by folding your duvet down at the bottom, like your inspiration photo and then adding 3 Euro pillows and it will look fabulous. Love the pedestal table and your metal/glass table for the side tables.

  10. Wow, it's already so pretty Megan! And I love your ideas for the new night stands. I love your home; I read your blog everyday because I love seeing the gorgeous photos! I don't always comment because I'm usually reading your blog on my phone while I'm feeding my kids or something and commenting from a phone is the hugest pain ever! But anyways been meaning to leave you a little fan mail and just tell you how awesome your blog is! Thanks for the daily fix! 😉

  11. I love seeing more of your room! It looks so great, and I think the round tables would look great. and of course another fig! 😉

  12. Looking awesome of course. I see bigger pieces next to the bed, you have the room and the height of the room won't make them feel too over crowded. A round table and a mirrored chest would be beautiful. {writing desks are always so pretty too as a side table} I am thinking that wall into the sitting room would look awesome with a stencil or wallpaper. I think by putting a leaning mirror there you will still feel it needs something more. But with the leaning mirror and a pattern on the wall it will feel more complete.

  13. I like yours the best! I'm a white fan, all the way…our tastes are really similar. You've done a great job.

  14. Such a beautiful bedroom! My husband and I bought our house 3 years ago and our master has been the last room to furnish….long overdue! Your room is the "look" I'm going for. I've found lots of inspiration pics, but not many show pictures of the dressers. What are you doing for your dressers?

Also, I want mirrored bedside tables SO bad but my husband vetoed it 🙁 He said with two boys under the age of 3, I was crazy. I'd be cleaning finger prints daily. Plus he's a guy, and mirrored, sparkly anything isnt his style. I still want them though!

  15. Did you use a box spring under your mattress? I just bought the bed and haven't ordered the mattress at this time. I was considering using a low profile box spring.
