Vitamix Blender- Worth It?

Vitamix Blender- Worth It?

Some of you who read about my endeavors to cook healthy and get more nutritious food into my ultra picky toddler recommended that I make veggie smoothies.  I read all of the comments and thank you so much for your helpful suggestions.  I really don’t know why it hadn’t occurred to me before to blend up some veggie smoothies since I buy my son the pre-made ones from the store already.   And I drink protein smoothies myself (just protein powder (usually Lean Body for Her) and skim milk or water).  A couple people swore by their Vitamix Blender,

Frugal Find – Brass Side Table

Frugal Find – Brass Side Table

I’ve been keeping an eye out for a small side table that looks great, but doesn’t break the bank.  This metal accordion side table from Urban Outfitters would fit that bill perfectly.  It’s only $64 and comes in black too.  The item is sold online only and shipping is $5. The table is 14 inches in diameter and 25.25 inches tall.  I bet a round mirror would look pretty inside.

I thought I’ve seen a similar table before for even less- closer to $50, but haven’t been able to locate them lately for that price.

Summer Sangria

Summer Sangria

Did you get to enjoy a long Memorial Day weekend?  We took a quick road trip to Austin and visited some friends and their adorable little 14-month old daughter.  And if that wasn’t enough, we went to a baby shower wherein the parents-to-be are expecting a baby girl in August.  Playing with that little sweetie and shopping for baby things almost gave me baby fever:)

But, since I’m not with child, nor planning to be anytime soon, let’s turn our attention to an adult beverage I’d like to see in my future! Perhaps next weekend?

I saw those gorgeous photos on Pinterest,

Happy Friday

Happy Friday

I haven’t been doing the monthly James posts since he turned 2, but wanted to keep sharing my favorite little guy occasionally.  Here’s two pictures that melt my heart.  The first picture is my phone screen saver:)

At the Children’s Festival about a month ago.

Last weekend with his younger cousin.

I hope y’all have a wonderful Memorial weekend!

Dreamy Dream Bars

Dreamy Dream Bars

If you’ve been following this blog for some time, you know I try to keep a pretty healthy diet and have been making efforts at cooking more.  That having been said, I still have a HUGE sweet tooth, specifically, a love of chocolate, and baking is one of my favorite forms of cooking.  I like to bake something every other week or so, or when the mood strikes, typically on the weekend.  I’ll bring leftovers to my office so that my hubby and I don’t end up eating a whole pie or tray of something like these delicious dream bars.

A Day in My Life (Saturday)

A Day in My Life (Saturday)

I must have an inner-voyeur lurking inside me because I absolutely get a thrill from peeking into other people’s lives.  And I especially like seeing how their day-to-day lives operate.  I think I’ve mentioned before that I’m interested in the details, like do you drink coffee when you wake up, are you a night owl or early bird, do you typically eat in or out?  Getting these tidbits of information helps me feel like I know you more intimately.

If you’re like me, then this post is for you.  This past Saturday, I made a point to take pictures throughout the day,

Our Master Bedroom (In Progress & Plans)

Our Master Bedroom (In Progress & Plans)

Don’t they say that your bedroom should be your sanctuary, a place where you can go to relax and rejuvenate at the end of the day?  I think our bedroom is on it’s way-although it’s still got a way to go.  Today, I’m showing you how the room looks to date, and discussing some of my future plans.

We made a lot of progress when we swapped out our dark leather bed for a fabric upholstered bed with nailhead trim from Overstock.com.  I framed pages of a botanical art book to create the art on the far right wall.

james loves michaeljackson

james loves michaeljackson

Pretty shortly after James was born, I started singing and dancing with him to one of my favorite songs, Rock With You, by Michael Jackson.  Then he discovered the song on my iPod and wanted to listen to it all.the.time.  If you come over to our house sometime, you’ll hear repeated requests for “michealjackson” like it’s all one word.  And then when you play michaeljackson (for the 50th time), he’ll immediately say, “wannahearagain.”

The first video doesn’t really have audio, it just shows James listening to michaeljackson on the iPod while trying to figure out how to eat (a Moon Pop) at the same time.

Blue in the Breakfast Room

Blue in the Breakfast Room

I’ve gone on and on lately about how I’m smitten with lime green right now, and it’s true, but something about this brilliant blue color struck a chord with me and made it’s way onto my breakfast table.  It’s a fun pop of color in that area.

When I was at Home Goods over the weekend doing the happy dance over my new mirror, I also found this blue jar that’s a twin to my green one.  For $9.99, I couldn’t resist. And it goes so nicely with the reversible blue and white Z Gallerie runner.
I get asked a lot where we got our table and benches,

Spring Mantle Take 3!

Spring Mantle Take 3!

It was just a couple weeks ago when I started fiddling with our Spring Mantle, and I’ve changed it yet again! I explained that I wasn’t crazy about our big, wooden mirror because I thought it looked too heavy for the feel I was going for, especially because it’s hanging over a wooden console.  Too much wood on wood.

Home Goods to the rescue! On Saturday, I popped in and found a large pewterish mirror for just $29.99!  It’s an instantly lighter, brighter look.  The wooden mirror was larger overall, but the actual mirror was smaller.

My Office Turned Sewing Room

My Office Turned Sewing Room

Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend.  Ours was pretty relaxing, we headed to the beach with my sis-n-law and her family on Sunday, and it was such a fun time.

When we cleaned out the guest room, one random piece of furniture that needed to be relocated was the black writing desk.  I figured it was perfect for sewing, so I made a place for it in my office.  Now that I’ve got a specific place for sewing (and I’ve organized all my fabric and sewing supplies- I’ll have to show you soon), I’ve been sewing more.

More Rugs in Cool Patterns and Colors

More Rugs in Cool Patterns and Colors

Two of my posts this week focused on rugs, and now I’m here with a third post on the same topic.  I found these awesome rugs recently and just wanted to share with you in case you’re in the market.

Ballard Designs has a great collection out right now.  I’ve often admired their merchandise, but have never actually ordered anything from them, have you?

First up is the Saybrook Indoor/Outdoor rug in four different colorways.  I’m partial to the yellow/black and the beige/aqua.  A 2’4 x 6’7 foot runner is only $55.

Cookbook Obsessed

Cookbook Obsessed

When I was shooting pictures of my kitchen over the weekend to show you our new rugs, I caught a glimpse of one of the little parts of our kitchen that makes me so happy- the built-in shelves in our island where I keep my most-favorite cookbooks and cooking magazines.

Originally, there were three shelves and I asked our builder to change it to two, so that I could stand my cookbooks upright.  A few months ago, James was really into pulling out the books, and my husband thought we should pull them all out and put them somewhere else if I didn’t want him getting into them.

Top April Posts and Thank You!

Top April Posts and Thank You!

It happens every year, the new year begins and before you know it, April has come and gone and we’re in May, looking forward to summer!  Where does the time go?!  Having been blogging since June 2010, I realize my 2nd year anniversary is almost here!  Really?!

If you missed some posts in April, here’s a round up of what I was up to.  I like looking back and seeing what’s been accomplished- makes me feel good.  Several areas of our home got some love, including the mudroom, under the staircase, kitchen, entryway, and the guest room.  You can click on the pictures below to read more about each project.

Cowhide Rug LOVE (Our Updated Living Room)

Cowhide Rug LOVE (Our Updated Living Room)

For about a year now, I’ve been wanting to add a cowhide rug to our living room, collecting images on Pinterest, and generally swooning every time I saw one layered over a natural rug.  After I bought a round rug for under our stairs, and two new runners for the kitchen, my husband was teasing over the weekend and said, “We have so many rugs, we now have a rug on a rug!”  Yes, that’s true.  I’ve been doing everything I can (short of buying this beauty) to try to obscure the baby-safe ottoman we have now:)  I think the layered rug,

Adding Color in the Kitchen

Adding Color in the Kitchen

I’m sure I’ve still got the “fresh and green” Spring bug as I can’t get enough of that appealing lime color, and I’ve been craving little bits of it throughout my home.  The kitchen is a place I’m becoming intimately  familiar with lately as I resolved at the start of the year to cook more and I’m in full swing now, creating family meals with healthy ingredients.

We are blessed with a bright, open kitchen with lots of natural sunlight, especially in the afternoon and early evening.  I’m thankful to be able to prepare meals in such a nice,

My Favorite Boutique is Coming to Houston!

My Favorite Boutique is Coming to Houston!

Happy Friday!  I’m thrilled to hear that one of my favorite boutique stores, Henri Bendel, is finally coming to Houston- June 2nd to be exact!  (For you Houstonians, the store will be located in the Galleria, on the 2nd level, near the Apple store). Until now, I’ve only shopped their stores in New York and Dallas, when I’ve been visiting those cities.  So happeeeeee!!!  Henri Bendel is known as a Girl’s Playground, and sells fun stuff like unique jewelry, handbags, makeup bags, accessories, makeup and beauty products.
