Our Thanksgiving Menu

Now that Halloween has passed, I don’t feel so bad about getting busy planning for Thanksgiving!  The recent issue of Food & Wine magazine has me giddy to get cooking!  In our family, we typically visit my husband’s sister and her family in the early part of the day and then go to my parents’ house, but I always like to contribute to the meal at both get-togethers.

At my parents’ house, we have fallen into a pretty comfortable Thanksgiving menu, that I’ve listed below, and I try to add something new to the mix.

Also, while the food is being prepared it’s nice to sip on some wine and enjoy a nice cheese and meat plate.

  1. We always have some type of munchie tray out for before the meal (usually a variety of cheese, crackers, meat, olives, cocktail size pickles) too. Not sure what the plans are this year…first year both girls have serious beaus!! LOL Might be sharing time with another set of parents.

  2. Your menu looks great. The cheesecake–wow! That's a good idea to add to the dessert menu. We have to do Thanksgiving with T's extended family this year, which means travel. It also means I don't really get to contribute anything b/c the aunts all run everything. I do make a mean stuffing (dressing, depending on what part of the country you're from). 🙂

  3. That sounds delicious! = ) I am also looking forward to planning Thanksgiving. I need to get on it..!

  4. We always do a sweet potato casserole with the pecan topping, not the marshmallow. Everyone LOVES it! We have used that recipe for years…

  5. i LOVE how your family keeps things simple…our menu seems to grow at a rapid pace, yet we always have so much leftover and promise to cut back the next year.

my top recipes for our annual turkey day are sweet potato casserole, pecan pie, my grandmother's secret recipe for stuffing, and homemade cranberry sauce.

  6. I once prepared an elegant pear dish for an informal dinner party. Not one person (out of 20-30 people) touched it. We love pears here, but it seems others do not share the love.:)

  7. Please share the pear recipe! It sounds delish!

We make spiced cranberries every year, in lieu of that weird canned stuff. We simmer them with sugar, water, vinegar, cloves, and cinnamon sticks. We didn't have it one year and I for real had a meltdown. Now I'm in charge of bringing them. 🙂

  8. You are really making my mouth water! My Thanksgiving wouldn't be the same without corned pudding! I also just discovered a new quick & easy recipe from a friend (she found on Pinterest) called pumpkin fluff! Look it up – it's amazing and you serve with ginger snaps and teddy grahams!
