Technical Difficulties!

Ack! Last night I tried to publish my post about James’ 10th month and couldn’t because I’d exceeded my photo capacity!  So, that’s what those warnings I’d been getting were about??!!  Needless to say, I’m pretty frustrated.  I tried to switch to FTP to download my pics but couldn’t figure it out on my own.  Some folks suggested using Photobucket or something similar, but I’m going to ask my techie friend to come over tonight to help me figure it out. Have you had similar difficulties?  I use Windows Live Writer to draft my posts and upload and edit my pics in Picasa.  Hope to have this sorted out today!  You can follow my tweets for updates in the meantime: @honeywerehome

  1. Hi Megan,

I host my photos on flickr (I have a pro account so I can upload an unlimited number) and link them in that way. I always wondered how other bloggers do it because Picasa has a capacity (which it seems like you've hit).

I would look around and see about PhotoBucket or some of the others, you might like it. But maybe you can upgrade your storage capacity in Picasa?

You'll figure it out, no worries!

  2. I've always written my posts through Blogger, and about a month ago I got a message that my storage was up. I clicked on a link and bought another block of storage for like $5. I wouldn't have known what to do, but Beth (A to Z) had mentioned it to me a few days prior. For me, it allowed me to start uploading photos almost immediately, but Google's site said some people might have to wait 24 hours.

Can you log into your Blogger account and try to upload a photo in a "test" post and see if you get the same link I did to buy more storage? For me, it was well worth the $5. 🙂

  3. So sorry I'm of no help here at all. The hubs frequently says that I repel technology! I'm pretty much a tech-NO 😉 I don't use live writer. Can you use it on a Mac?

  4. I have heard of this. Some persons have actually switched over to another interface. Which can be dangerous when you have so much content. Perhaps you can delete some old posts that have few pictures to free up so space.

  5. I know some people resize their photos before uploading them in order to get more in. This happened with my daughter's blog also. I would be interested in knowing what your tech friend has to say, so I won't get in the same predictament.

  6. Yikes! Have you just been uploading them to Blogger & ran out of room? I may have future technical difficulties myself then. I'm so with you on being un-techy!

  7. I've had the same issues. Picasa & Blogger team up and whatever photos you've uploaded will automatically be stored via Picasa on your blog. You can buy more storage space from Picasa and Blogger.

But, since I refuse to do that I just upload my pictures to Photobuck or Flickr and add them in as HTML files. This way they don't count against your alloted storage. You may have to resize the images as they will automatically be very large as HTML files. I've done this for the past couple weeks on my blog, you can check it out if you want.

    Hope it helps. Happy Blogging!

  8. You might want to try loading pictures at lower resolution (on photoshop you can select "save for web"). Web images don't need to be the same resolution as a print images. They will still look good at a lower dpi online, they are just compressed. You can also use Flickr to host images too.

  9. I just figured this one out! Same thing happened to me. Lesson: Don't upload your photos directly into blogger. Rather, upload them to Photobucket (at whatever size your blog will hold). Once in Photobucket, you'll see html codes below each picture. Right click on the direct link, return to your blogger post, click on the "upload a photo" button, and choose upload from URL. Once the picture pulls up, save, and return to edit your post. You'll see your photo just as before! After that, you can still make it bigger or smaller. Hope this helps! I was CLUELESS!

  10. I just ran into this same problem…and it's super annoying! Going to read some of your comments to possibly get help! 🙂

  11. My sister created a continuation blog. (after like 6 years of blogging) It looks exactly the same and the two link to each other.

  12. I had that happen and I just upload to blogger- I just bought the extra storage for the year- it was like $5 and for the hassle etc. it was a no brainer for me.

  13. Oh no…this scares me as I directly upload to blogger. I'm definitely going to refer back to this post to figure out what to do to avoid this! Yikes!

  14. i see you ended up adding the $5 via blogger, I decided to go with photobucket and then I got over my free limit on photobucket as well!!! eek so I ended up paying for unlimited photobucket services – so much for "free" things! 🙂

  15. Just wanted to say that that stopped being an issue for me when I migrated from blogger to a WordPress-hosted blog at my own domain name. It was actually much easier and less scary than I thought to migrate everything. Just a thought. 🙂

Glad you got it worked out, though!

  16. Eek! I post the same way you do, except no Flikr. Keep us posted as to what the problem was and how you fixed it! Btw, your little boy is adorable. Just wait til he starts walking…then running. I'm feeling my age from my first (11) to my fourth (21 months)!
