Organized STORAGE TIPS {Ten June}

I’m like a kid in a candy store with all of these fabulous organizational posts from some of my favorite people.  I’ve been busy working on organizing my pantry in preparation for a post next week . . . I’m also REALLY so excited to share that I have 2 clients (yay!) that I get to do some organizing for in the near future.  Both women have agreed to let me share the ‘before’ and ‘after’ shots with you, so I can’t wait to show you!  I’ll be starting with a bathroom for one gal and a clothes closet for the other.  I’m seriously salivating at the thought of getting to dig into this new venture!  Now all I need are some clients in the Houston area who want me to help them create an organized and pretty home for them!  I must admit that it feels a little vulnerable putting myself out there like this, but I’m trusting myself and praying that God uses me to my fullest potential.  Amen! image ********** Today, Michelle at Ten June is bringing us some sage advice for some inventive storage solutions.  Since finding her blog a few months ago, it has quickly become a favorite read of mine.  She hooked me when she repainted her kitchen cabinets and walls and the results were fantastic.  I’m sure she’d love it if you stopped in to say hi! image ********** Hi there, Honey We’re Homers!! I’m Michelle, from Ten June. And I’m thrilled to be guest posting for Megan today. Her home and blog are simply amazing and it doesn’t hurt that she is sweet as can be. Needless to say, it was love at first sight when I found her blog! This series is a fabulous idea and I cannot wait to hear everyone’s tips and hints on organization. One thing I’ve learned when trying to organize around my house is that sometimes it helps to think outside the box and utilize something that isn’t traditionally used to organize that object. For example, my hubby loves to use old shoe racks to store some of his power tools in his workshop. Or, I’ll use empty mason jars to collect safety pins in my laundry room. Here are a few of my favorite “outside the box” organizational tools that I use around my house. pic1 pic2 I organize my costume jewelry in a bamboo silverware holder that I actually picked up in the kitchen aisle at Target. The expandable, divided tray helps me keep all of my fun necklaces, rings, earrings and bracelets nice and neat. I keep the tray onto a shelf in my dresser, which makes my jewelry easy to access whenever I need it. I know there are lots of great jewelry organizers out there, but the silverware tray works great for me! pic3 pic4 I keep pens and pencils in our office in an adorable drinking cup that, once again, hails from Target. Have you guys seen John Derian’s adorable collection there? Too cute. Lots of melamine plates, cups, trays and more with cute insect prints on them. The combo of beauty and function won me over here and I thought this little cup was perfect to store our pens and pencils in. I even have one on my desk at work! I know this storage idea is not incredibly novel, but it’s a fun one, nonetheless. When it comes to finances, I am old school. In fact, I still balance my checkbook based upon each and every purchase that the hubby and I make (I know, right?! Like I said, old school!). In order to do so, we keep all of our receipts and review them before throwing them in the recycling bin. For awhile, the receipts just kind of piled up wherever they landed (the desk in our office, my purse, the kitchen counter, etc.). I finally decided that enough was enough and decided to make a home for the receipts. And it came in the form of an empty sugar box. pic5 This project was pretty simple. I simply Mod Podged (is that a verb?!) some fun scrapbook paper on the sugar box, labled the top with some chipboard stickers and, voila! I’ve got a place for my receipts. Keeping the receipts organized and in one places makes things a lot easier when it comes time to balance the ol’ checkbook. pic6 pic7 So there you have it, folks! These are just a few ideas of different ways I help to keep things tidy around my house. Am I the only one using sugar boxes as office supplies, or do any of you use random items to organize? Hopefully I’m not the only crazy one out there 🙂 But my motto is: whatever works, works! Thanks again for having me, Megan! And I’m so happy to “meet” all of her wonderful, dedicated followers. Happy new year, everyone! image
