Organized Toddler Clothes

Hi friends!  Back from a rather uneventful weekend, but those are necessary once in awhile, right?! On Saturday, while my husband was out and James was at a friend’s house, I took Jordan to the pool, just the two of us, and we had the best time!  She is definitely a water baby and loves the freedom to splish splash to her heart’s content in the pool.  At home, she’s always hearing, “nooooooo” when she’s splashing the bathwater all over the place.

The girl has no fear and especially loves the pool sprinklers that splash right up into her face!  It’s so fun to watch her get such a kick out of that! Once you have more than one kid, it’s harder to make sure you get one-on-one time with each, so this was a great time for us.

I just got that new swimsuit and it’s darling (especially flattering in the back, but on the sexier side) and the colors are gorgeously vibrant.

Back at home, one giant chore that’s been nagging at me was cleaning out and organizing Jordan’s closet and I finally got it all finished!  Those organizing chores bring so much satisfaction when they’re done!  I told my husband, “go look at Jordan’s closet!” because I wanted to show it off, but I don’t think he understood the goodness of it- so thankfully, I have you!

Babies grow so fast, so all those adorable too small clothes had been piling up, and many were still on hangers, so I always had to avoid those when choosing her clothes each day.  We’ve been generously gifted many awesome hand-me-downs that were too big at the time, but I had a suspicion that there were lots in there she could wear now or soon, so I needed to go through those too!

After we were done, we had a nice and neat, clean closet with everything easily identifiable by size!

But, I have to show you the “before”, so you can appreciate the after!  It wasn’t terrible, just not as good as it could be!  She has a nice size closet with a window so there’s bright, natural light inside.  The wicker basket on the shelf is holding documents that needed to be sorted through and filed in the file folder on the right.  I still have to do that part! The white woven basket had some of James’ toddler toys and now they are properly in Jordan’s room so she can play with them. But, man, what do we do with that big canvas of James?!  Right now, it’s been moved to the playroom, but I’m not sure what we’ll do with it from there.

We pulled everything out of the closet (minus the hanging clothes) to get a fresh start, but I’d recommend NOT doing this with your baby around, because their ‘help’ isn’t so helpful!

The biggest job was going through the clothes and putting the things that no longer fit in a bin, then organizing the rest of the clothes into things she can wear now, and things she’ll be ready for soon.

In the closet, I keep hanging clothes like dresses, top/bottom sets, some “nicer” things I don’t want to fold, and jackets/sweaters.  In her drawers are t-shirts, shorts, leggings, pants, onesies and bloomers.

Slim Velvet Child-Size Hangers

Keeping the outfit sets on one hanger should make life easier now. No more hunting for things or forgetting the top has a matching bottom!  I like these slim hangers because you can fit more of them in a row and the velvet keeps things from slipping.  I have pink polka dot and solid hangers.

The size dividers I bought for the closet only go up to 24 months and Jordan needed a 3T divider, so I put a label over the newborn divider and wrote in 3T.

Since we currently have more closet than clothes, I figured here would be a good place to repurpose the large pink paper flowers we had at Jordan’s 1st birthday party.  They are so pretty, and such good quality.

I also wanted to give a place of honor to James’ old cowboy boots that he wore as a toddler.  When he outgrew them, we lent them to our little friend Abby.   Both of them used to wear them all the time and looked absolutely adorable in them.  When Abby got too big for them, she gave them back and now Jordan will get a chance to wear them!  The rest of Jordan’s shoes are kept in the mudroom for easy access in and out of the house.

The Jordan banner was also part of the birthday party, so we’re keeping it alive here too.

In Jordan’s bathroom, she has two deep drawers that function as a dresser.  We use the top one for her t-shirts, shorts, leggings, pants, onesies and bloomers.  I like the drawer organizers because you can arrange them to fit like a puzzle and they keep everything so well-organized.

She has a dresser in her nursery, and there I keep her diaper and wipes, pajamas, and clothes she’s not quite big enough to wear there.

I’m loving this newly organized space!  Now I need to get into James’ clothes and do the same!
