Fave Jean Shorts

Happy Friday friends!  Have you had a good week?  We’re always ready for the weekend, right?! It’s been a big week over here so this post is a hodge podge of things to fill you in on what’s been going on lately!  I’ll do another post with lots more details and specifics on a few of these things, but for now, here is the big picture snapshot.
First up, some beauty news I’ve been meaning to update you with! Remember I talked to you about my experience with lash extensions and how they damaged my natural lashes?  I’d heard great things about both NueLash and the R+F Lash Boost and decided to give NueLash a try.  It had great reviews for growing your lashes and making them thicker and fuller.  I found it for $65 at Overstock, but they also carry it at department stores like Nordstrom.
I’ve been using it religiously for about 2 1/2 months and I can say that my lashes have definitely grown and are much longer.  Before I used NueLash, when I curled my lashes, the lashes barely went over the word REVLON on my eyelash curler.  Now, they go way past it and I can see that they are longer too.
My problem with products like this is that I’m not sure if it’s the product that worked, or if they would’ve grown longer on their own.  Or maybe they grew faster with this product??  I can’t say for sure, but I wanted to give you the update because some of you had been asking about that and I didn’t realize it had been so long that I’ve been using it.  I put it on my lash line every night religiously before bed. It goes on clear and doesn’t feel like anything besides wet.
I’ve also been using a new mascara that seriously brings out the drama in your lashes and I like mine just short of Tammy Faye style;)  This mascara is super dark black and gives crazy volume even after just one coat.  But, I apply a second coat after the first one dries for a more dramatic look.  I’m really picky about my mascara and the mascara brush, but this one is so good.  The only thing is, be sure to wipe the excess mascara off the brush into the tube before you apply so it doesn’t go on clumpy.
Moving on up, I got my eyebrows microbladed yesterday!  I’ve been wanting to do it for a looong time because my brows are so weak and light and don’t grow at all.  Whenever you see me in makeup, I can assure you I’ve drawn my brows on and colored them.  I use Mac brow pencil in ‘Fling’ to draw them on and Anastasia Dipbrow in Soft Brown with an angle brush to fill them in.  The picture above is with makeup on my brows.
I will do another post detailing the whole microblading process with you, but I couldn’t wait to show you a quick iPhone before and after pic.  I will say I’m definitely not used to them yet, but I think after 2 weeks when the color has faded and settled in, I’m gonna really like it!
If you are in the Houston area, I went to Venetian Nail Salon in Spring and Linh did them.  Isn’t it amazing how they can basically tattoo brows onto your face?!  Right now, everytime I see my reflection in the mirror, I feel like I need to go wash my face.  What do you guys think of the result so far?
Over the years we’ve gotten lots of questions about our marble kitchen countertops.  We love them and they are gorgeous, but after 7 years of wear and tear and no marble treatment and not really knowing how to properly care for them, they’ve gotten pretty beat up.
We have lots of scratches and etching, but it’s gotten worse recently with a few large deep scratches that apparently appeared magically because no one around here claims any knowledge of how they happened.  Today, we’re having a company come out to restore the marble by doing a very fine sanding and polishing.  It’s a big job that requires the whole kitchen area to be taped off because the dust gets everywhere and we obviously won’t be able to use the kitchen while the job is being done.
I’ll share with you on Stories and in a future blog post, so let me know if you have questions so I can get the answers for you!
I feel fortunate to have a large walk-in closet with lots of organization and storage all to myself.  It was one of the “dream items” on my list when we built our house 7 years ago.  I carefully planned out every detail from the built-in dresser with overhead shelves, the island with cubbies on both sides and a tall center shoe shelf for lots ‘o shoes.
When designed the shoe shelf, I figured I’d use the top shelf for boots, and the lower shelves for shoes. Each shelf holds 5 pair of shoes, so with 9 shelves, I could comfortably organize and store 5 pair of boots and 40 pair of shoes. Well . . . fast forward 7 years later, and I could use a leetle more shelving for Spring beauties like this:
The plan is to sheetrock the window on the back wall and then add shelves at the same height as the existing shoe shelf to the left so it looks like they continue.  The back wall is wider than the original shoe shelf, so each shelf will hold 7 shoes, creating room for 28 pair of shoes total there.
I wasn’t using that hanging space anyway and I have two more windows on the adjacent wall, so I don’t think I’ll mind losing this one for more shelving.   I recently had the closet painted all white to create a fresh, clean start in here and have since organized and purged a ton of things, so it feels so much lighter in here.  I’ll do a full closet update post soon after the shelves are installed.
Y’all know I rely on my Master List to help me organize my brain and get things out of my head and onto paper.  The Master List has been a great tool, but the problem with it was that it wasn’t always accessible when I needed it, so I’d still be jotting things here and there and then trying to corral them all to add to the list when I had time.
Well, I started using Evernote several months ago and it really is life-changing!  It’s not all that pretty or user-friendly at first, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes indispensable.  The very best thing is that I have it on all my devices, including my iPhone, iPad, computer in my office and the computer in the kitchen and they are all synced.  I have to pay a subscription to sync so many devices (I think it only syncs 2 for free), but it’s worth it!
To get the most out of Evernote, I trudged through, David Allen’s Getting Things Done and let me tell you, it was painfully slow to read, but also very helpful.  I just wish he were more concise because it took me forever to read through the whole book!
The book and Evernote go hand-in-hand though, so I do recommend both.  The point is to get everything out of your head and onto “paper” so your mind is clear and free, as opposed to a mess trying to hold onto everything you need to remember.
Evernote is an online catalog of Notebooks and Notes to help keep you organized with a handy Web Clipper so you can add things online, similar to a Pinterest page.  I used it for Jordan’s 1st birthday party and I now use it for my daily To-Do List, Grocery List, Blog Post Ideas, Household Things, Kid Things, Travel, Parties, etc.  You can customize it however you see fit.
If you caught my last Dressing Room post, you saw my jean shorts review and fit guide, and I hope it was helpful!

I’m starting to live in jean shorts again since finding a great dupe for my old trusty favorite pair.  This new version is distressed and loose fitting, so I sized down to 24 and they still fit on the relaxed side. They are short, but the looser fit doesn’t make them feel too short.

You’ll usually find me running around in shorts and flip flops, but it’s nice to dress them up with wedges sometimes. I love a wedge for adding height while still being easy to walk in. This gold zippered pair are too cute and they come in other colors.
You guys know I love the cold shoulder trend. I’m tempted to get this one in every color!  Do you do that?!

Something similar to this outfit is my weekend uniform when running around and I want to be both comfy and cute (and taller).  Our weekends lately have been filled with baseball and birthday parties and this weekend is no exception.  We’ll probably also go to the car show since my boys love to do that every year.

And this is another THIS & THAT topic for ya if you made it this far! My mom, brother and I are going to see Theresa Caputo next week when she’s here in Houston at the Arena Theatre.  Do you know who she is- the Long Island Medium? I know some people have strong feelings about her (negative and positive), but I’m going with an open heart and mind and I really want to support my mom and brother.  I can’t wait to update you on that experience!
So off to the weekend, friends! Have a great one!  ?
You can join me on Instagram too, where I post everyday outfits and inspiration to wake up your wardrobe.

    1. Thanks Stephanie! It's been so nice having that extra space and not having to cram everything in. I waited a loong time for it, so I always appreciate it!

  1. Brows are prob like hair color, when you get it changed it seems too intense at first. I bet you"ll get used to them in no time. They look great!

    1. I think you're right, when I went darker with my hair it took time to get used to, but now I really like it! Hope you had a great weekend!

  2. Darling outfit! Love those sandals! Is the lip color you are wearing with the cold shoulder top the same as the one mentioned in the beginning (talk to me?)….such a pretty color and matches the top perfectly! I had my brows done last week and they have faded quite a bit….much less dramatic. 🙂 Amy

  3. Love the cold shoulder shirt.. Sadly they are soldout in my size :(.. Can't wait to see the closet update..Yes I know who Teresa is.. Watch her and love her.. Can't wait for the update on this. YOu are so cute!

  4. Will you mind sharing who is restoring your marble? Mine looks terrible and it's been about 7 years and I need to have something done. Also what do you plan on doing to protect them going forward? Thanks

    1. The company we hired (Jara Construction) was referred from a friend. We won't wipe with paper towels anymore, only a soft cloth. For everyday cleaning use soft liquid soap like Dawn or Palmolive with the cloth. I'll keep juice and wine far away! Those are the worst culprits for etching- anything acidic. I'm making sure we have "feet" on decor things that could scratch. Ours is about 7 years old too!

  5. Hi! I've been looking into getting my eyebrows done & appreciate your advice in scheduling, want to get them done before summer but have 1st communions, weddings, etc. & wondering if there's any time when it looks worse, like more red or peels?

    1. Hi Victoria, I didn't have much redness at all and it's been 4 days and I don't have scabbing, peeling either, which I expected. I'd say get them done about 2 weeks before your first event and you'll be fine. It's recommended to get a touch up at 6 weeks, so keep that in mind too.

  6. Your eyebrows look amazing!! Would love to hear how you're liking your ombré hair? I did something similar to mine and sadly had to change it back to blonde because I didn't like seeing all the gray in my dark roots. I couldn't find a good solution for touching them up!

    1. Hi! I do really like my hair darker at the top because I never have to worry about needing to get my roots done! But, I wear it up and back often and then it looks sooo dark, and I feel like that looks so severe. I've been tempted to put tiny baby highlights in front, but I really don't think my hair is strong enough for that yet- it still has a lot of breakage and damage, so I'm gonna wait a full year. I wonder if your hair stylist could have recommended something like a spray or something to help cover grey. Sometimes I still use my "blond" dry shampoo and that helps lighten the top a bit.

    1. Oh that's a great question and something I wondered too! It hurts a little (but not bad) because she didn't put a numbing cream until the second time around. With the numbing cream you don't feel it. It does make a weird scratching sound and that is pretty creepy! The actual microblading part goes quickly, about 10 minutes per brow x 2. But the whole process of measuring your bone structure and drawing the brows on and rubbing in the color after takes about 1.5 hours.

  7. Seriously. What did moms do before blogs and the internet?! So thankful you share this stuff. I was just discussing my brows (or lack thereof) with my besties the other night. I'm going to start saving my pennies up now!! PS- please talk about your skin care routine (or point me to an old post where you do). Your skin looks amazing.

    1. Right! We have to share these thins with each other! I didn't even realize microblading was a thing until I saw it one day on YouTube about a year ago! I need to do a skincare post, but there's just not much to it. I wash with Cetaphil cleanser morning and night and use Seabreeze. If I'm dry I use Cetaphil moisturizer or this oil by Colleen Rothschild. Most products break out my skin so I don't use much. I wear my visor or hat if I'm going to be in the sun – running or at a ball game or at the pool. But thank you so much for the compliment!!

  8. Your brows look SO good! And I currently use the same products for my brows…maybe I should try!

    1. Hi Laura! Thank you! I'm going to do a detailed post in a couple weeks so I can give you more info about everything including the healing process, but you are supposed to go for a touch up at 6 weeks and 6 months, and they last about a year or so, then you have to do them again. Mine were $450, but they can go up to $1,000 at some places in Houston.

  9. Hi. Not sure if my post are working so excuse me for multiple post of that should be the case. Thank you for your blog and tips from A to Z as they are very helpful. As you live in the Houston area have you watched Dominique Sachse vlogs about her eyebrow microblading? She have a vey good vlog and update on her YouTube

    1. Yes! I actually contacted that lady that did hers but she is super expensive and also very booked up! I agree, Dominique's brows look so good!

  10. I am so excited for the follow-up post on microblading. I have had my eyebrows dyed once a month for almost 10 years…and yours look phenomenal. I love your blog and the majority of my closet is from your posts. As for the RF lash boost – it is amazing. Fake lashes no more. If you ever need to point your fun blog friends to a rep, please do not hesitate to share my info. (I live in the Heights so love to meet people in person to discuss if they have questions). Thanks for all of your posts.
