In the Dressing Room

This has been one helluva week I tell ya!  It’s always stressful the countdown to a party you’ve been planning for weeks, but to top it all off, I’ve had the worst allergies/cold! I went to bed early every night hoping the sleep would do me good, but I keep waking up feeling so bad! I started using the neti pot a few days ago and I think it’s helping!

So, onto happier things, like today’s In the Dressing Room post with lots of fun things for Spring, including some super cute dresses and jumpsuits (40% off), my new favorite Spring booties (size down), and several adorable tops! Not to mention a great pair of sweet shorts pajamas! Oh, and I tried on two new pair of jean shorts – detailed review at the bottom of the post!

If you’re trying to compare sizes, I’m ultra petite at 5’1, about 106 pounds with athletic build (i.e. bigger shoulders and thighs) and busty up top;) Quite a challenging fit sometimes, but I know there are lots of you fellow shorties out there too and I always appreciate you letting me know how my fit info helps you! I always put size info in purple italics for reference.

I loved this top so much you’ll see it next week all styled up in a new “Dressed Up/Dressed Down” series I’m starting.  The tie sleeves are too cute and you can wear this comfortable strapless bra with it.

The herringbone pattern on this top is sweet and I adored the fit! It’s a keeper!  Dress it up with a necklace and heels or wear to the office for a fun take on a white top.
How sweet is this tank? The lace is built in and it has side rushing!
I wasn’t crazy about this top on me, but it’s is pretty and would look more polished tucked in, so I wanted to show.  Plus, it’s also 40% off now and comes in black.
This color is called ‘blush’ and it’s a very pale, pretty pink.  The top is on the sheer side, so you’ll want to wear a nude bra with it.  It comes in 3 other colors and is only $35!  Will be a great throw on for Spring and Summer weekends.
Here’s the white version below:

If you aren’t super petite, I think this would be a lovely top on you!  The fabric is nice and soft and the bell sleeves are cuuute!  Unfortunately, I felt like the top was wearing me- it didn’t come in XS, so I tried the Small, but no luck!
I wanted to love this top too, but it’s just too long even though I got XXS! If you’re taller, give it a go because the print is darling and the florals say Spring, but the black background makes it more dramatic. It also comes in a really pretty solid coral.  Wear this strapless bra with it!
This sweater is nice and chunky, but the open arms keep it from feeling stuffy. It runs big, so size down.
I loved the soft, stretchy fabric and the flattering cut of the top, and the cut is sexy without being too revealing.  But it runs big, so you’ll need to size down.
I swear I can never have enough basic tanks and tees (long and short sleeves).  This one is super soft and awesome for wearing alone or layering.
I’m always down for a thin knit sweater and this striped version with the navy, pink and red is darling on! It’s great for work or weekend and comes is several awesome patterns.
I’m already feeling pretty Springy in this yellow and white sweater!  ?   It’s marked down 40% now and would look great with white skinny jeans and wedges!  I tried on XS and it fit on the roomy side, if you want a more slim fit, size down.
How sunshiney of a cardigan, right?!  ?   It’s bright and cheerful and just makes me happy! I like the added detail of the white and black trim, but it also comes in solid yellow and 10 other colors. I’m wearing XS and it’s pulling just a tad when I button it, so I may size up to Small.
This top would also be cute tucked in with bootcut jeans or wide leg pants and a statement necklace.
We have a few special events coming up that I want to get dressed up for- Jordan’s garden party (Saturday!), my little brother’s wedding, and the school gala.  Needless to say, I’ve tried on a lot of dresses over the last month, and I think I have a winner for all three events!
I had to try this one on when I saw it online.  The color, pattern and style are all sweet, but the fit was a little too loose on me, which is such a bummer because I love this dress!  It would be so cute with this pair of pale pink sandals.
I adored this floral shift dress!  The floral pattern and bell sleeves are fun, but I wish it were a tad slimmer on me.  #petiteproblems
Now this one had me jumping up and down I loved it so much!! ?   I love the mix of pale blue and pink and the cut is so flirty and fun! The little cut out at the neck is playful too and opens up the neckline.  So far, this is the winning dress for Jordan’s party – with lace up sandals like these (20% off).
The school gala is a “black and white” party this year, so I had to try on this sassy white dress.  That detail cutout pattern is darling, and it has a longer ‘fishtail’ back.  It fits TTS and you can wear a strapless bra with it.
I felt like the angels started signing when I tried on this dress!  ?   You know when you put something on and just feel great in it?!  My mom’s dress for the wedding is navy, so I was hoping to find something we’d coordinate in.  I love the asymmetric top and embellished bling at the shoulder.  The fabric is crushed taffeta and gives a nice texture to the dress.  I’m so happy you can’t see my strapless bra in it! Now I just need shoes!
I may have cried a little when I put (more like squeezed into) this dress.  It is absolutely DARLING on and so gorgeous for a fancy lunch, dinner, wedding, event/Easter, but I barely got it zipped so I wouldn’t be able to carry Jordan around without fear of a wardrobe malfunction.  I want to exchange for the 2P and see how that works.
Gown 2P
It’s not often you get to don a fancy gown (my mom’s is similar for the wedding), so I had to try one on and I was crazy for the sequin pattern and neckline on this dress.  It was very well made and I bet the 0P would have fit much better, but they didn’t have that size.  And I just checked and it’s 40% off now!
Since our school Gala is the “Black & White” ball this year, I thought this two-piece dress would be particularly appropriate.  I’ve never worn a two-piece dress before, but they intrigued me so I gave it a try.  On the model, the top is a bit midrif-baring, but I’m fine with mine covered up.  Obviously, I’d have to get the skirt hemmed, but the top fits great!  Sometimes, sequin tops are scratchy, but this one is lined, so it’s quite comfortable.
It may be hard to tell in this pic, but I couldn’t really move in this dress, so I’d recommend sizing up one size.  Otherwise, what a fun combo for a night out!
This dress is so fun on and the front piece is a little extra flap of fabric that is nicy and swingy!  The back is darling too.  I love how the v-pattern in the fabric corresponds to the v-neckline.  It’s a pretty color too and I’m dying over how well it goes with the blue tassel earrings!
I loved the color, shape and cold shoulder cutouts on this dress, but it was too big and shapeless on me.   It’s a bummer though, because it looked so cute on the model!
This dress felt great on, the fabric is nice and thick and it’s hard to tell, but the back is longer than the front and such a classic look.  I felt it was still too long on me though, and I would have needed to get the length taken up.  This dress is a bargain too- it’s only $82 and feels like a million bucks!
Maxi Dress PP (petite petite)
If you’re on the short side and have trouble finding a maxi dress that doesn’t need to be taken up, this one is for you!  I have it in blue/white and it fits perfectly, no alterations needed!  I also like how you can wear a regular bra with it and the straps won’t show!
Nevermind that my boobs are down by my waist on this maxi- I tried it on sans bra! ?  Of course now that I pointed it out, it’ll be hard to ignore!  Anyways, I like the dress so much and the petite size fit great with a high heeled sandal or wedge, but the top is begging for a necklace.
I wanted you to see how gorgeous the color is on this skirt- I hope it translates on your screen!
Which necklace do you like best with the dress?
I always loved a good wrap dress for work, this Michael Kors one is a pretty aqua and I love how it combines a wide, mulitcolor stripe detail at the cuff and hem, but it was a little big on me.  It also comes in Petite, so I bet the XSP would be perfect because Michael Kors tends to run big.
You just never know about a jumpsuit, espeically culotte style, until you try it on.  This one is fabulous!!  It’s navy and the cute cutout detail is so playful and fun.  It was comfortable and surprisingly, with a heel, the wide leg didn’t make me look squatty!  Bonus, it’s 40% off now.

Here’s another jumpsuit, pants style that is really flattering on and makes your legs look long!  It wasn’t too long in the crotch and the tie at the waist helps your waist look smaller.  This would be a cute jumpsuit to wear to work!

Ever since I tried on these wide leg pants in the last Dressing Room post, I’ve been obsessed with trying to find a flattering pair!  I’m happy to report, I did!  And not just one pair, but two!
Tie Waist Crop Pants (XXS) | Similar Black Tank here & here) | Similar Heels
The crotch in these type of pants can easily make them a “no”, but these fit great in XXS!  You might have seen me dancing around in them in my stories because I got so excited to find this pair of pants that are so figure flattering and comfy as pajamas!!! #happydance!!!
With this type of flowy pant, I like to wear a fitted top, tucked in to balance it out.
Ankle Tie Pants XS | Striped Top XS(buy 1, get 1 50% off)
These pants were equally as comfy!!  I’m so in love!!! ???  How cute is the tie at the ankle?!  They are a definite YES! and I can’t wait to wear them!
The striped top is one of my faves!  It fits TTS and is silky smooth.  I adore the bit of black contrast on the scoop neck.
I mentioned in my last Outfits Lately post, that I needed a new pair of jean shorts because my very-favorite in the whole wide world pair are too big! ?  I bought them post partum and they are so loose, they keep slipping down.  I’ve been on such a hunt for similar pair and dang! would you believe how expensive jean shorts can be?!  I’m determined to find a pair under $100 and you’d think it would be easy- my old pair were $78 and worth every penny, so I’m okay spending around that again because I get so much use out of jean shorts in Texas.  In the summer, we’re wearing them almost everyday!

I really liked these but they are short, short! I’m not sure I’d be 100% comfortable wearing them anywhere besides around the house!  But, if you like a super short short, get this pair!  They are soft with a great front distressing and the braided waist is a cute twist.  I’m on the fence, maybe I’ll put them on again and try wearing around the house and see how they feel.P.S.  Love this boatneck top with 3/4 sleeves! It’s only $26! and comes in several colors.

These shorts are cute and I actually really like the button fly, but they felt too roomy in front.  I’m gonna buy the 24 and see if they fit better.  The color is a great true blue with nice worn in look and I also appreciate having a pair of cutoffs without rips for a different look.
Cotton Shorts 00
Yep, in Houston we’re already pulling out our shorts.  I liked the embroidered stripe detail, flat front, and pockets on these.  I got the 00 and they shrunk just a tad with a machine wash and dry, but actually fit even better after that. I can already tell that these will be a go-to this summer with flip flops and tank tops!

These booties are adorable for Spring!  As soon as I saw them I might have gasped out loud I liked them so much!  I ordered my normal size 6 and they were way too big, so I returned them for a 5 1/2, which fits, but I almost feel is still a tiny bit loose.  I’d recommend sizing down 1/2 to 1 whole size in these.Last but not least, I have two cozy cozy looks for you for bedtime and lounging around the house!

First up, this soft, soft sweatshirt and sweatpants.  The top is that soft fleece and runs big (I maybe should’ve gotten XXS because it’s also boxy) but it was so soft and cozy I couldn’t resist putting it on right away!  The sleeves are bell shape and really wide.  To me, it’s more of a wear around the house shirt than an “outside” shirt.  Or throw it on over your workout clothes! ?The sweatpants fit TTS and are the perfect length on me (not too long) and have a drawstring waist.  I actually prefer an elastic waist because sometimes the drawstring can feel uncomfortable if you have to tie it tightly to keep the pants up.  That being said, these pants are really comfy for lounging around in and so cozy on a cold morning.

Plaid Pajamas XS
In an attempt to up my regular pajama game, I bought this shorts and shirt set and it’s really cute.  The pattern and color are sweet (particularly appropriate for the recent Valentine’s Day).  Wearing these makes me feel more put together in the morning as I get the day going.  They come in 3 other colors and a super cute large gingham pattern too.

Phew!  If you stuck with me to end, you get a medal! ?  I hope you found some good info here with me as your guinea pig for these styles!

  1. You look darling in everything! I love the yellow sweater for spring–might have to order that! Missouri springs are extremely unpredictable and I always try to find sweaters that are fun colors after all the dark of winter and this fits the bill!! I love these posts so I don't have to do the searching myself–thanks! Also, your party plans are so cute–have fun and enjoy!! ?

    1. Thanks so much Dawn! Our Springs are mixed here too, but it's starting to warm up- nights can still get chilly though. And inside buildings usually keep the AC on blast, so I try to be ready for that or I'm freezing inside! We had a great time at Jordan's party- I can't wait to do the recap post!

  2. SO I love the Vince Camuto heels you linked, but 4 inches feels a bit tall for my office environment + walking Downtown. In your next shopping post, could you share some black work appropriate sandals with varying heights? I wear my Hinge Drea in tan all the time but would love a darker pair to pull out sooner!
    Thanks! Amanda @ lifeonlinton.com

    1. Yes, will do. I like the Hinge Drea too- really cute! Looks like those are 3 1/2 inch heel, but chunky like the VC ones, so probably easy to walk in.

  3. Love the selections this week — thank you. Have my eye on the bell-sleeved top in particular, as it seems like that could play several parts in work/casual outfits. As for the necklace choices with the lovely striped dress, I'm going with door #3 (the coral), but all of the are winners. I have the necklace in the middle in a cranberry-red, and get compliments every time I wear it. Have a great time at the birthday party — I'm sure it will sweet and memorable!

    1. I like that third necklace choice too because it's higher on the neck and shows more of the top and the contrast is nice. I thought the second necklace might overwhelm a petite frame, but I like it too with the right top or dress.

  4. I LOVE the maxi dress with the red ribbon tie. I think the bow is enough, all the necklaces detract from the beauty of the dress. Maybe try some larger statement earrings instead?
