In the Dressing Room

Happy Friday friends!  I’m so excited about today’s In the Dressing Room post because I actually got to go try things on in the dressing room while my husband stayed home and watched the kids!  I love to do these kinds of posts for you so you have the inside scoop and benefit of a friend’s opinion and fit review before you make your purchase.

This post is a good one, but it was getting so long I’ll be breaking it up into two posts and will share more with you in a few weeks!

If you’re trying to compare sizes, I’m petite at 5’1, about 108 pounds with athletic build (i.e. bigger shoulders and thighs).  I always put size info in purple italics for reference.

I’m a lover of neutrals, so I gravitate to all the white tops and I found four that adored!

The first one is one of my favorites, this lace cold shoulder top that combines my love of white, cold shoulder and lace! I tried on size small because that’s all they had in the store, but ordered XS so that it wouldn’t be as baggy.
This button-down shirt is best worn with a nude bra or cami underneath since it’s so sheer, but would also be great over a swimsuit in the summer.  It’s nice and lightweight and could also go easily with capris or shorts.

This top has a built in cami, so you don’t have to add that extra layer and the slight bell sleeves are fun.  It’s got just enough embroidered detail to make it special.  The XS is still a little long on me in the sleeves but not enough to bother me.

I adore this cold shoulder top too!  The crochet around the shoulders is super cute, but the fabric is on the sheer side, so you’ll definitely need a nude, seamless bra.  Check out 9 Must Have Undergarments if you’re in need of a bra and panty intervention!  I loved it so much I ordered it in XS because the sleeves were a little long on this one.

This gingham tunic is absolutely adorable and the ties at the wrist are sweeeet!  Because the top is nice and loose, I’d pair it with slim pants or skinny jeans.  This one came home with me for sure!

This sweater didn’t look like anything special on the hanger, but I loved the color and the stripes, so I gave it a try.  I actually loved it on and the fabric was nice and soft and it felt well made.  I didn’t realize until I put it on that it had cute v-cut outs at the sleeves and side. #keeper

I’ve seen lots of people raving about this sweater so I wanted to give it a try for you.  I actually wasn’t crazy about it because it just felt weird on how the front criss-crossed.  I thought it might be nice to wear over my sports bra to yoga though.

I absolutely loved this super soft wrap sweater!  It’s ultra soft and oh so cozy.  You’ll need a tank underneath to keep from flashing but it’s one of those that you don’t want to take off once you have it on!
I wish we were having colder weather because this black, cream and tan scarf is awesome!  And it’s only $25!
This kind of grey knit sweater with crew neck is a closet staple!  I loved the fit on this one with just the right length and thicker fabric.
I don’t know why, but I’m always crazy for a baseball-style top.  This one is fun with faux double layers and visible contrast stitching.  Great for running around on the weekends or wearing at home.

I miss my plaid tops when it’s not fall, but the vibrant color on this one will carry you into Spring.  It’s a casual style best worn with the sleeves rolled up and the no-collar is nice! It also fit TTS.
This softest cardigan is one you’ll want to cozy up with by the fire or drink a hot cocoa while wearing.  It comes in a million pretty colors, even stripes, but the grey and this pretty pink called ‘Heather Red Mars’ and the ‘Heather Pink Smoke’ are my favorites. It runs TTS (I’m in XS), but they also come in petite.
Tank XS
With our crazy weather, we’ll probably be in tank tops soon!  This embroidered tank was super cute, but it ran big so I layered this tank underneath.  If you don’t wear a tank underneath, you’ll need one of these bralettes to show off because it’s meant to be seen with tanks like these with big arm holes.
Wide Leg Pants XS Ruffled Cold Shoulder Top XS (first pic) Small (second pic)
I’m not sure if it translates onto your screen, but the icy blue in this cold shoulder ruffle top is really pretty!  I think I’m too busty for it to fit properly though because the XS was a tad tight across the chest and the Small was too big.  If you’re a C-up or below, this top would look great on you!
The Wide Leg Pants were different to try on and I actually really liked them, but for such a petite person, even the XS were too baggy, espeically in the rear.  They are very comfy though and would look great with a black heel, so I’d like to try the XXS that they also come in.
Below is another pic of them with a long sleeve stripe top so you can see the tie waist better.
Years ago, I had an older version of this short sleeve striped top that was the same but with ruched sleeves and I wore it into the ground!  I was so happy to see this one in stock with the small scale stripes and little bit of contrast with the black trim at the top.  It fits TTS and you better believe, I scooped it right up!
I’ve been wanting to try these jeans that are raw edge hemmed and shorter in the front, longer in the back.  I liked the fit of these jeans, but because I’m so short, the front hem didn’t come up very high and they just looked like regular jeans without a hem.  I did feel like the solid dark color was nice and the rips hit in a comfortable place.  They are also high rise, but they didn’t feel too high.
The Free People Tee is exactly that slouchy, relaxed style that Free People is known for, but I felt that even in the XS, it was too big on me- it’s pretty wide in the body, but it’s hard to tell in these pics.  If they had XXS, it would’ve been better.
BLANKNYC is a brand I’ve come to know and love over the last couple of years, especially their jeans, so I tried on two new light wash styles for a change.
This first pair with paint splash were too long on me (which is to be expected- I have to alter the length in all my jeans unless I buy petite), but otherwise kinda cute and definitely different than any jeans I own.  I wasn’t sure how much wear I’d get out of them though, and I really liked this second pair below better.
I’m bummed my full length picture in these jeans didn’t turn out, so I’ll include a screen shot below.  They were super comfy on and they remind me of the 80s in an updated way.  The 24 fit great on (a size down from my normal 25).
I was really surprised how much I loved the jeans at White House Black Market! Every pair I tried felt great on and fit well!  I haven’t shopped there in awhile, but a few of my favorite things, like my puffer vests, are from there and they usually carry things with nice detail that also fit petite frames.
Their bootcut jeans were incredibly comfortable and well-priced, less than my fave leg-lengthening budget bootcut jeans!  They fit amazingly well in the waist and hips, but were too long (even in ‘short’) and need to be altered in the length.
The floral bustier has ‘date night’ written all over it!  Wear it with my fave strapless bra and you’ll be good to go!
The slightly distressed skimmer jeans felt amazing on.  I folded the cuff here, but the ankle has a released hem that’s a nice detail.  They’re only slightly distressed, if you’re not a fan of too much.
Even though I felt this top was too long on me, I really liked the jeans.  This jean is super casual with a crop length and wide cuff is amazingly soft and I could totally see running around in them in flats or wedges come Spring, with baby in tow.
I like the more relaxed and looser fit of a girlfriend jean, but don’t think I’ve ever tried them on.  I loved this one with casual rips that don’t go all the way through to show your skin and the faded color says weekend ready. It’s hard to tell from the picture, but there’s pretty silver stitching around the rips that is a pretty and different detail. Size down in these, I got 00.
I tried on a couple floral dresses in anticipation of the upcoming garden party at our house celebrating Jordan’s first birthday!
I adored this floral fit and flare dress!  It felt really expensive, but felt it was a good price ($148) for the quality.   Fit and flare is so flattering because it nips in at your waist, making it look smaller and the neckline on this dress is just right- not too low or high.  I ordered 0P because they didn’t have that at the store.  It would also be so cute for Easter!  The colors are so pretty in person and I like that the background of the dress is more cream than bright white.
This silky fabric felt so nice on and I loved the drama of the black color with the pink and blue flowers.  I tried on 0, which fit, but the 00 I didn’t get a pic of fit better, a little shorter and slimmer at the waist.  It would be a great work dress too.
I also got around to trying on some jackets I’ve been wanting to review for you!

Faux Leather Moto Jacket Small

This faux leather moto jacket is 35% off, normally $98, but on sale now for under $60! It’s soft leather with a slim, shorter cut with super cute zipper detail.  I love the edgy chic style and it comes in 4 colors.  Definitely size up though, because it runs small.  I’m wearing size Small here.

Suede Moto Jacket Small

This suede moto jacket was also killer!!  It comes in this vibrant red and four other colors, but I’m really dying over the light tan called “coffee bean”.  It’s so luxe and soft on and gorgeous!  The collar, belt and zip sleeves are all special touches that make it unique- although the belt is removable.  I’m wearing size Small in this one, but would actually go with my usual size XS so it would be more fitted.

Okay, I couldn’t get this jacket out of my head and went back and found the coffee bean color in XS so I could try it on.  It’s a must have!!  So so gorgeous on!  You won’t wear it with a big sweater since it’s meant to be worn fitted, but under thin tops and tees, it’s amazing!!

Suede Moto Jacket XS

Finally, I walked past some accessories that definitely caught my eye!

Link Necklace

I wear my Kendra Scott Pendant necklace all the time, but this long chain link necklace is a good alternative.  The bigger links make a bold statement and I like how they are asymmetric.

Chain Link Necklace

It comes in a shorter, layered version too that looks great with high neck tops, but also tunics and button-downs.  It looked expensive on, but it’s only $34.

Tassel Earrings | Ball Earrings | Layered Beaded Necklaces

These earrings and necklaces are so fun and add a bright pop of color to your outfit.  Makes me start getting excited for Spring! ?

  1. I loved that blue cold shoulder ruffle top on you. You look so good in all your choices.
I ordered that same moto jacket yesterday in 2 colors so that I could choose my favorite – the coffee color and the red. It was good to see you try those on! It definitely helps to see it on someone else:)I guess I'll find out which one I like when they arrive!
