2016 Recap – Fashion Faves

Welcome to 2017 friends! I can’t thank you enough for your readership and support over the years. Many of you have been with me from the very beginning or for several years now and I’m truly honored that you choose to spend a portion of your day here!  2016 was a wonderful year for our family with the addition of our baby sister, Jordan.  She has melded into our family and I already can’t imagine our lives without her.  She went to Grandma’s house while the rest of us rang in the new year at our friend’s house, but I woke up missing her terribly!  That dress y’all told me to wear was a hit!  I felt great in it! Thank you!
I like to set intentions for the new year and do lots of plotting and planning, and have been ruminating on some things for the past several weeks.  I don’t have any big resolutions to declare, but I have a general sense of how I want my life and body to feel.  Let’s just say it’s always a work in progress for me to find the place of peace in the midst of trying to juggle so many balls in the air and stay healthy doing it.  Maybe I need to let some balls drop.  It was a great rest and reset to take the holidays ‘off’ of the computer and just be with my family.  It would be lovely if I could continue this gentler pace into the new year.
As a way of slowly easing into January, this week, I’ll be recapping my favorite and most popular posts and share with you a few thoughts on each topic (Fashion, Decor, Fitness, and Family) for the new year.
On the fashion front, there were several items that I recycled over and over in my everyday wardrobe that I’ll highlight for you.  You’ve seen these things pop up in lots of my fashion posts and I swear by them! Once you have your couple of basic wardrobe staples, it’s easy to style outfits around them to change things up!
Kendra Scott Pendant Necklace – This pendant necklace goes with everything and I’m so fond of it, I have it in several colors (comes in 11). It’s a quality piece that adds that something special and dresses up your most casual outfit.

Gorjana Necklace – This simple yet chic necklace is a staple for wearing alone or layering. The bar is thin and delicate, but not so much that it doesn’t stand out.  I’ve had mine for several years now and it still looks good as new!

Link Bracelet (Similar for Less) – I have lots of bracelets, but this timeless link style is what I always seem to reach for.  You can wear it alone or layer it with your watch or other bracelets.

Blue Aviators – I never thought I could wear aviator sunglasses until I discovered the Ray-Ban Fit Trick!  After learning this simple fix, I was like, “where have I been?! I could’ve been wearing these for years!” This blue pair is the only color I have, but it works with so many outfits.  I also found them really handy on the ball field when we were there for sports. Next on my list is the pink or green!

Michael Kors Tote – This tote has been a lifesaver with it’s sleek design, but multifunctional compartments! It’s not to big, but not to small and I can easily find my keys, phone, makeup case, etc. no problem.  This one is similarly gorgeous.

Leopard Clutch – A little leopard goes a long way so a clutch or shoe can give you just the right amount of pop without being overkill.  This bag is well made and has room for plenty for a day or night out.

Skinny Jeans  – I really love my bootcut jeans, but skinnies are just so easy to pull on when they are as comfy as this pair.  They are made with enough stretch to feel good on and don’t gap at the waist. Bonus, they are currently on sale 40% off.  They fit TTS (I wear 25).

White Jeans (more sizes here)- My all-time favorite white jeans (that I wear year round) are pricey and rarely go on sale, but I love them!  They are amazing because they fit like a real jean (98% cotton) and not a jegging like so many white jeans, so they fit really nice and smooth without lumps and bumps showing through.  They are also very opaque so you don’t see your skin through them.  You can see How to Wear White Jeans After Labor Day hereThey fit TTS (I wear 25).

Wallet – I don’t think I’ve shown you my wallet, but I have an older version of this Tory Burch wallet that I’ve carried for two years now and absolutely love!  The quilted style is gorgeous and fun and it zips closed, plus the inside is designed exactly how I like to organize my money, cards, receipts, etc.

Kids Hunter Boots (Adult Hunter Boots) – After my rain boot review, I ultimately chose the kids version because they fit my petite (i.e. “short”) legs the best and bonus that they are way less expensive! I already gotten a lot of use out of them and you can see them styled a few different ways here and here.  p.s. to find your kids size, just subtract two from your regular size.

Wedge Booties – What more can I say about these ultra-comfy and cute wedge booties than they are one of my favorite purchases of this year?!  One of my outfits y’all liked most this year I was wearing these booties and many of you let me know you got and love those booties too!

Peep Toe Booties – These peep toe booties have definitely been on repeat and I have them in both black and brown.  That sassy little dip in the front elongates your leg and the heel and toe showing is great for not being too heavy.  See them styled with a black dress, ivory corduroy jeans, boho dress, jeans/white sweater, striped dress, jean jacket, neutral sweater/plaid scarf.

Open-Toe Sandal – This sandal with it’s skinny ankle strap and chunkier heel is a winner! I have it in both nude and red, but the blue is especially pretty!  I like these heels with everything from dresses and skirts to pants and jeans.

Oh, wait, there’s a couple more . . .

*A special shout out to my very favorite strapless bra I talk about all the time.  It’s the one you can actually forget you’re wearing and not have to fidget to pull up all night!  It even keeps larger chests up!  You can see more of my favorite shapewear here.

And my military jacket that’s on sale big time- 50% off, making it under $50! Size down because it runs big- I wear XXS. See different ways to wear your military jacket here.

Last but not least, my so so soft jean jacket!  I never travel without it! You can see ways to ways to wear it here.  XS for me for a fitted jacket.

Today is the last day of Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale so don’t forget to swing by!  So much sale goodness!!

Here’s to 2017 friends!

  1. Glad you had time to spend with your sweet family this holiday season. They are growing up so fast. I love my Gorjana necklaces (own both the silver and gold), and wear them often.

    1. Hi Jane, no I don't use self tanner on my face. I have to be super careful with what I put on my face because it breaks out easily. I like Sephora spray tanner for my body though.
