Transitioning to Fall

Oh man, this is so our dilemma here in Houston and maybe yours too if you live in a climate that inconveniently forgets to realize that it’s FALL already!! Hello! We’re in late October, Houston – did you miss the memo?!?! #rude We want to wear boots and sweaters and scarves and all.things.fall while drinking our pumpkin spice lattes!!!! Actually, make mine a white mocha. 😉
We’ll show you, weather!  We’re not gonna let a little thing like 80 degree temperatures stop us from wearing the clothes we’ve been politely and patiently waiting to wear since the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale back in July! #somuchgoodness
Even if the rest of your outfit says Spring, you can make it Fall-ish by adding just a scarf or a light jacket or booties.  The key is just to pick and choose and wear lightweight clothes underneath.  A tank top looks great with a scarf if you coordinate everything.  Shop more colorful scarves at Nordstrom here.

This $25 infinity scarf has the prettiest mix of red, blue, green and tan so it will go with nearly everything.  It’s a perfect way to add a pop of color to your otherwise neutral outfit and a striped top would also be super cute.  It comes in two other colors too.

You’ve seen me wear this same $18 tank I’ve had for years here and here and I also have it in grey and black.  It’s got a u-neck and raw edge hem and isn’t see through, which I appreciate.

I’m all about these peep toe booties right now.  They are definitely something you can wear now and later and they even look adorable with cutoff jean shorts.  They’re sized true to your normal size, I usually wear 6 1/2 in boots or athletic shoes since I wear those with socks.  In these, I got size 6 and they are perfect without socks.

After falling in love with my affordable bootcut jeans that made even these short legs look long and lean, I tried the same brand’s Ivory Corduroy Skinny Pants and really like those too.  They are thinner so not super heavy and taper at the leg but aren’t skintight.  I got 0P and they still gaped at the waist so I need to get them taken in, but the length is perfect with heels and still give me room to roll a little.  They come in a million colors too, so they will be great with all your winter sweaters soon.

For this monochromatic look, I rolled the ankle so a little bit of skin still shows at the bootie. That cute v-detail in the front of the bootie helps create the illusion of a longer leg line.
This swing tank is nice and breezy, but the arm holes are larger, so you’ll want to wear a cami underneath or a lacey bra that doesn’t mind showing off a little.  This one and this one are made for that.

The top is lined so it’s more opaque.

You can add your trusty military jacket if it gets cooler.  They’re usually on the lighter side so not too hot if there’s just a slight chill in the air.

This  Faux Leather Reversible Tote is a staple in my closet and I can’t tell you how many people I’ve met that say they have it and love it too.  It’s just that simple, well-made, no frills bag that’s not too big and not too small.  #justright  I love the navy one too.
Below, I switched out the jacket in lieu of that pretty scarf again and love the pop of color it adds.
Blue aviators pick up the blue in the scarf.  Oh, hi Tisha!

As much as I want to, I can’t really complain about the weather too much, since it’s way better than it was.  And rumor it there’s gonna be a cold front tomorrow!  You better believe we’re ready for that!

What’s your weather like lately?  Have you been able to wear sweaters or are you in the same boat with me?

  1. I'm in eastern NC, and we've had a couple of coolish days, but not true fall yet. Usually, it's in the 60s in the morning but high 80s by afternoon! #readyforfall
