Casual Friday

Let’s hear it for the weekend!  This last week has been marked by transitioning baby Jordan to her crib and it’s been stressful and exhausting and good all at the same time.  I have to say I’m so proud of how well she’s done and I’ll give you a full run-down of our process soon here.  Last night was the first time she didn’t wake up in the middle of the night and I woke up so freaked out! And wet from not feeding her! Heart palpitations!!  Thankfully, she was fine, just sleeping soundly!   I shared some on my snapchat if you want to check it out (@honeywerehome).
Here, I’m excited to kick off a new ‘wear to work’ series, starting with a casual Friday edition.   So many of you have asked for more work appropriate fashion, and I know the struggle, so I’m happy to begin sharing more styles you can wear at the office and beyond.
#1 similar tie blouse $39  $49  $59  | jeans (size 25similar jeans ($185, $99) | bag (on sale here) | nude heels | old belt (similar) (this one is cool) | similar gold link bracelet

#2 peplum top XS $48, $28 | skinny jeans $69, $29 | black heels $99, $69 | similar clutch | old Stella & Dot necklace similar here & here | similar earrings

Even when I worked at a lawfirm, our dress code was casual at best.  Would you believe we could even wear flip flops in the summer?!  I don’t think I ever took advantage of that because it just felt too casual and somehow I didn’t think I’d get much work done in my Havaianas. Plus, I always wore heels or wedges because I’m so short.  I did appreciate that we had the freedom to dress casually though; I would go crazy at one of those ultra conservative firms where you had to wear a suit everyday.  Of course, I did wear suits to court (used to buy mine mostly at Loft or Ann Taylor), but it wasn’t daily.Lots of offices have casual Fridays, where jeans are allowed, so that’s what I’m starting with today.  I hope you enjoy these new work-style posts!

Most of us have skinny jeans in our wardrobe, and you can make those work for the office too, but wearing a bootcut jean can be flattering, especially when worn with a tucked-in blouse.
A white button-down is an office staple, but in the summer, a tailored sleeveless button-down will keep you cool and the bow detail on this one makes it super sweet.
To keep your legs looking longer in a bootcut jean, definitely wear heels.  Flats will make your legs look squattier in this style.  The key is getting a pair of bootcut jeans that fit you well.  Even if you’re petite like me, you can wear bootcut jeans!  I’ve had this pair for years and linked the newer version. I love them so much I have them in two sizes (for when I gained a little more weight).  I’m in size 25 here.
If you need a bag that will hold your laptop, this one will do the trick.  It’s really sturdy with lots of room inside.  I’ve carried my laptop to a coffee shop on many a day in it.
I keep my jewelry on the minimal side at work, but a classic link bracelet like this is so chic.  I could never type with bracelets on though, so even though I wore them, I’d take them off to type!
Another casual Friday look is to pair your skinny jeans with a peplum top.  The peplum style is so flattering because it cinches you in at the waist and flares out, making your waist appear smaller.  This plus size peplum is adorable!

A colorful statement necklace peps up the outfit and adds a pop of color.

I hope you have a great weekend!  I’m gonna work on getting my workout playlist together for you and plan to post that next week!

  1. We had to give Graham the boot to his crib at 5.5 weeks because I couldn't stop waking up to his every move. He is such a loud sleeper! I remember when he slept through the night for the first time (not like it is a regular thing!) and I woke up in a panic…and wet hahah! I can't wait for the full nights of sleep to become a regular thing.

Oh, and I'm so impressed with your ability to get these posts up! I'm on the struggle bus lately and have worn the same yoga pants for too many days to even remember! You go, momma!

  2. Hi Megan! I'm not sure if you've ever heard of this pulse oximeter product from Owlet, but when my husband and I become pregnant I'm totally getting this. I'm a nurse practitioner and I think this could be a life saver. I think it would really put your mind at ease and make your sleep deeper. And sleep is vital to health! Thought I would share.
