Stylish Decor Finds at an Unexpected Place

Now that my office redesign is wrapped up and fully functional and Jordan has a gorgeous room to call her own, it’s time to give James a room he loves too with his personal touch and fun personality.   He moved into the guest room to make room for Jordan and it’s been kind of a hodge podge since then.  He told me recently that he wants a “Star Wars” room, and he was very specific about how the decor should look, from the ceilings to the walls.  He even drew me a design plan of how it should look! I was googling some Star Wars decor and WalMart’s site popped up.  I’m no stranger to WalMart because the crib, dresser and glider in Jordan’s nursery are all sold there.

We’ve since removed the bumper (just in case) and have been putting Jordan in her crib for short periods of time to get her used to it.  She’s currently still sleeping in our room, but I plan to transition her to her crib soon.  I think.  Maybe.

I have found the glider pretty comfortable for nursing in because it has good back support, and my mom likes to rock Jordan to sleep in that chair when there’s a lot of commotion in the house, like several loud little kids.  It’s doesn’t rock in a huge motion like a rocking chair, but does rock some. It swivels though, which comes in handy.

When people hear that those nursery pieces are from WalMart, they are usually surprised because they didn’t realize what you can find at WalMart and how you can incorporate it into your home decor.

I went down the rabbit hole at WalMart.com, specifically their decor items, and have to admit, I was also surprised to see many of the things we have in our home there!  I get asked about the rug in our living room a lot, but unfortunately the original source no longer carries it.  I found this rug at WalMart that has the same chevron pattern.

In our bedroom, look at who carries our pintuck comforter!  And similar x-bench stools, but with nailhead trim. I might actually like this headboard and bed more!
Doesn’t this lamp look familiar?
They also have some awesome rugs, like this Moroccan one so similar to the rug in our sitting room. I found their site pretty easy to navigate and you can narrow your search by style, price range, color, etc. I saw our wingchairs there too, but in a different color.
Our breakfast room rug is another thing I’m often asked about. I like the color and pattern on it, which is perfect for camouflaging messes!  This rug and this one caught my eye too.  And this one! I even found a similar wooden table and benches.
This mirrored console table has been a lifesaver in our breakfast room because it functions as our catch-all space for things coming and going.  It’s not always tidy up top, but I try to keep it under control.
What I was most surprised to see were the eterges in my office, although in silver.  But this eterge is really pretty too.
They even have my black mirror!  #saywhat?!

Are you surprised too or did you already know that WalMart had such great decor?!  See more of my favorites below.  Just click the picture to shop.

Now, back to James’ room!  If I can get my act together, maybe we’ll have it done by the time first grade starts.  Would you believe I already got the email that school starts back August 10th?! #wahhhh!!!!  It really makes me want to take it easy and cherish each of these summer days at home with my babes!

  1. Thank you so much for this!!!! So much inspiration! I have no designing bone in my body… and this will be great for when we finish construction on our house!

  2. Love it. They have also upped their fashion game a bit. I found some really cute tank tops for summer…$4.97?!? Cute patterned shorts too. Since I'm in the process of losing a bit of almost 4-year-old baby weight, the price was right. I'll email you a photo or link.

  3. I'm going to go down the rabbit hole now too! What a great post! My son Jack wants a new bed and rightly deserves one. He's 13 and his bed was his crib that turned into a full bed! ha! It still is awesome except that we have all hit our shins on the corner of that bed one. too. many. times!! LOVED the snapchat video of James showing you his room design!! He is so detailed and organized about his design and what he wants! lol!! I can't wait to see what you do with his room. 🙂

    1. No way! He sure got use out of that one! Wasn't James detailed?!?! He's adamant about black walls and ceiling with stars!

  4. Wow! That's crazy how many things you can get at walmart. A friend recently told me their online site is better and has better quality items than in store. I never really checked it out for myself, but wow! Did you happen to buy all the attachment pieces for the crib to convert into the different beds or does it come with them?

    1. It did seem like they have way more items online than in the stores! I think the crib came with the convertible parts, you just reassemble in a different way I think.

  5. Both Wal-mart and Target carry a ton more online than in their stores. More high end then you would expect.

Did you ever see Carmel's son's Star Wars room in their last house? I think James would love it. And for you…not too "themey".

  6. Walmart has partnered with Wayfair and Overstock.com, so you can find most of their merchandise on Walmart.com

BTW… Samantha at Little Bits of Home did a Star Wars themed room for her son during the last One Room Challenge. It's really a great room, not too themey… but with just enough Star Wars stuff to make a little boy happy. I especially love the ceiling. You should check it out.
