If you’re like me, you live in jeans pretty often and jean shorts in the summer. Today, I’m highlighting a couple favorite jean shorts looks that you can wear all Spring and Summer, one dressed up look (with a heel!) and the others more casual.
And, I also wanted to share a great, relaxed, but still stylish outfit that you can wear anytime you want to look good and feel confident. I found another way to style your tie neck top that I originally paired with this skirt. See the whole look here. The top can be tucked in like I did with the skirt, or worn untucked, for a loose, effortless look that’s still got style.
This top is long enough to cover the bum, but it’s a little shorter in front so it doesn’t make you look like you’re wearing a dress.
dressed-up jean shorts
Jean shorts are a Spring and Summer staple in my wardrobe and it wouldn’t be unusual for you to find me in the same pair day in and out until I absolutely had to take them off long enough to wash them! I’m currently loving this pair by Free People and I’m especially fond of the classic button-front fly. They are more fitted, but this boyfriend style jean short is also great and looks really comfy.
To dress up your denim shorts, pair them with a nicer top, like this lace trim sleeveless blouse. It says that you tried more than just throwing on a cotton tee or tank, but it’s just as easy to wear.
And, you can wear a heel with jean shorts! As long as it’s the right heel, preferably a sandal or wedge. These lace-up heels make your legs look longer because of the nude color and heel height. They are also daytime appropriate and the chunkier heel is better with shorts than a thin heel. I used to feel weird about wearing a heel with shorts, but now that I’ve done it several times, I’ve gotten comfortable with the look.Bottom line: Wear what YOU are comfortable in and what makes you feel great!
This look doesn’t take itself too seriously, but is still appropriate for a nice lunch or for running around on the weekend. Being able to laugh at yourself is always in style.
summer casual jean shorts
The super casual summer jeans shorts look is what you’ll often find Houstonian’s in, come the brutal dog days of summer. The tank is cool and the loose body is stylish. If you’re wearing short shorts, you can balance the level of skin showing by pairing it with a higher-neck top, like below. You’ll feel more covered, even though you’re still wearing a tank top. Wear this look with a long strand necklace to add more visual interest to your outfit.
Bonus that this tank is only $15 right now and comes in six colors! And the fun, striped bag is back in stock and 50% off! If you’ve been eyeing it, get it now before it disappears again!
I’m in camp ‘hide your bra straps’ or ‘just show a peek’ as opposed to having that vertical bra strap showing over your shoulder and down your back. A racerback bra works perfectly with this tank.
Flat sandals are another go-to with jean shorts. The pair below are great quality and my Sam Edelman shoes always last a long time. I feel relaxed already, somebody take me to the boardwalk!

I love jean shorts (which my husband still calls "jorts"), and my favorite pair is from J.Crew Factory. They have a bit of stretch in them, but they hold their shape really well. I've worn them twice in the past 3 days 🙂
I really enjoy your outfit posts. I feel like I've let myself lose my fashion sense in the hectic days of having babies and struggling to get back in shape, but I'm working on being more intentional and letting myself spend a little time and thought on me. Thank you for sharing such great looks!
I'm so blown away by all you're doing with such a tiny baby. My son is six months, I'm training for a half marathon and I would not be letting someone take photos of me modeling clothes =) I always enjoy your fitness posts. I'd love to hear what you've been doing post-baby to work out and if you have a nursing underwire bra you love. We have very similar body types (petite but well endowed) I got some from Motherhood Maternity. Six months in they're uncomfortable and practically falling apart. I've also struggled with finding shirts that cover the girls but don't look like I'm wearing a tent. I'm off to test out some of the shirts you've shared. But I'd love some posts on navigating postpartum/nursing fashion.
