One Room Challenge Week #3 – Rug, Etageres, & Bench in Place

Hi friends!  How are we already halfway through the One Room Challenge?!?!  In blog time, that means there’s actually less than three weeks to finish, because the photographing, editing and blog post writing needs to be completed in time for the final reveal on May 11!  I’m kinda freaking out over here because we still have so much to accomplish to get this room done in time.  What I’m showing you today is as far as we’ve gotten and so many pieces are still yet to arrive!  I’ve been juggling out of stock orders and pieces that didn’t end up working or that couldn’t make it in time.  It’s a work in progress for sure, but I’m still optimistic that it will turn out beautifully!
You may recall that I’m redecorating my home office and you can go here for a refresher as to what it looked like before and go here to see the design board and vision for the new office.

We’re going for a sophisticated and feminine space and this week, three of the main components to the room arrived from Joss & Main!  The rug, upholstered bench and etageres have been assembled (thanks hubby!) and are in place.

These two etageres fit the wall perfectly!  They are 80 inches high with four shelves to decorate. Each shelf is 12 inches deep, 36 inches wide and the height between each shelf is 18 inches, so lots of room for pretty things!  I love how the corners of the top shelf curve to add to our feminine feel.
The bench under the window will provide additional seating, and the bright white is pretty and clean, although not necessarily kid friendly! We’ve got pillows on the way from Arianna Belle to adorn the bench.
But the real game changer is the Victoria Rug.  It’s so hard to shop rugs online, but in person, this one  in “spruce grey and black” is just that.  It’s dark enough to ground the space, but light enough so that it doesn’t feel heavy.
It’s super soft too.  Perfect for some tummy time!

Guys, I’m really crossing my fingers that the rest of the pieces make it in time and that I can get those pretty etageres all styled up before it’s time to photograph this room!  Wish me luck!

  1. Can't wait to see it come together. Are you planning on changing the pulls on your Jett desk to gold?
Just a word of caution, new rugs can give off gases…I wouldn't lay sweet Jordan directly on it until it has had time to "air" out. And, one she is toddling around you might need to secure those etageres to keep them from toppling over should she pull up on one.

    1. Just google off-gassing of carpets. It is the same type of thing with a new car. That "new car smell" is actually the leather, carpet and plastic giving off gasses.

  2. Megan – You have a beautiful family and home. I have recently started following your blog, which I ran across via pinterest while searching for gray paint colors. Found photos of your ORC of the nursery for precious Jordan. I fell in love with that nursery! I was so inspired by the Agreeable Gray in the stripes that I painted my hallway with that color.
Your office is coming together beautifully. Looking forward to the reveal. I had a question about the rug. You described the color as a spruce gray with black. Does the main color lean more toward green (spruce or sage) than gray? Do you think it would work with Agreeable Gray and honey colored hardwood floors?
    Thanks so much!

    1. The rug is hard to describe, but I think it photographed true to color. It's more grey, but has that green tint to it. I think it would be so pretty in your home. But, check the return policy just in case!

    2. Thank you Megan. I verified the runner can be returned, so I am going to give it a shot.
Thanks again. Looking forward to your next update.

  3. Those etageres are gorgeous! You've made great progress. Love the rug too (and cutie Jordan).

  4. Love this space!! It looks like the perfect office to spark creativity and imagination! Side note-I have a similar bench and noticed you did the same thing we did at first. The legs are on backwards 😉 Keep up the great work! It will all come together and be so worth it in a few weeks!!

  5. Loving the new space! And baby Jordan! 😉 I did notice your bench has its legs at the wrong angle…might not be as "sturdy" with them that way. Otherwise, love those etageres!
