One Room Challenge Week 1 – My Home Office Makeover Begins

Hello!!  It’s the day I’ve been anxiously waiting for!  I finally get to announce that we’ll be redecorating my home office for this Spring’s One Room Challenge!  If you’re new to Honey We’re Home, thanks so much for stopping by!  I’m Megan, a possibly crazy woman that wanted to take on this challenge even though I just had a baby!  Our 7-week old Jordan is the sweetest thing.  She’s keeping me busy with those round-the-clock feedings, but I didn’t want to turn down the opportunity to redecorate this room, especially after last time!
ONE ROOM CHALLENGE
Last Fall I was honored to participate in the ORC and it was a terrific experience.  With the help of my friend and designer Sita Montgomery, we transformed my son’s old bedroom into a soothing lavender retreat of a nursery for Jordan.   We were honored that the nursery was even named as one of House Beautiful’s Top 10 favorite rooms from past seasons of the ORC!  I still get comments and questions about the nursery, but the best part is that we’re now getting to live in it with our baby girl and enjoy it!  It’s not only beautiful, but functional too.
Sometimes I wish it were my room!  I actually do have my eye on that room someday as a future office for myself.  #moveoverbaby! Ha!  But, it’ll likely be several years before I can claim that space as my own, so until then, I have a room at the back of our house I’m using for my home office.  It’s where I do crafty things, wrap presents, plan, and blog.  I spend quite a bit of time here, so I want it to be a place I enjoy and feel creative in.
OFFICE BEFORE

Let’s take a look at the office we’re working with before I get to why I wanted to redo this room and the direction we plan to take it.

Not too bad, right?!  But, to help bring order to the chaos that is our playroom, I gave up my large Ikea expedit a few months ago. Since then, my own office has been the chaotic space because all the things that were so neatly organized in that bookcase ended up on the floor or table.  And p.s. my once gorgeous plant died. 🙁
I temporarily moved a console into the room as a space holder, but I’m embarrassed to show you that as it stands now, my office looks like this:
It’s a mish-mash with no cohesive style now.  It used to be bright white with bold black and pink accents, but now I’d prefer a more soothing and sophisticated space.  Enter Sita again! Her designs always say sophisticated and grown-up with a gorgeous, feminine feel.  I’m thrilled and so very thankful that she agreed to help me tackle this office for the one room challenge.  I need all the help I can get, especially now!
Take a look at some of her beautiful work:

Isn’t she amazing?!  She does e-design too if you’re interested and I can attest to how wonderful Sita is to work with.  I can’t wait to show you next week the design plan for my office!  We’ve only got 6 weeks to pull it together, but I’m ready to get after it!  I hope you follow along, I’d love your feedback along the way.
In the meantime, YOU can participate in the One Room Challenge too by linking up your  room transformations every Thursday at Calling it Home.

Be sure to visit the ORC participants below, there is some major talent represented so you KNOW it’s gonna be good!  Thank you so much, Linda, for inviting me back!

  5. Oh my previous comment didn't make it, bummer. I was just commenting for the first time after reading for a year because I am so excited you're doing an office makeover!! I am knee deep in my own home office makeover (it was seriously becoming a health hazard with all the piles of kid artwork everywhere) and while I am not sure I will finish in six weeks, I am super excited to see how you manage yours and hopefully glean some ideas from you!

  6. What a great office, you have a beautiful sense of style. This room has great bones and I can not wait to see what you come up with !!!
