Tried & True Jeans Report :: High/Low Styles to Love

Over the weekend, we got lots accomplished over here.  I took advantage of my husband’s willingness to get into the attic and we brought down ALL of the baby stuff that’s been accumulating up there over the last few years, and, while we were at it, might as well bring down the CHRISTMAS bins too!! Yay!!  We typically never start decorating until after Thanksgiving, but my son and I are both anxious to start spreading all the holiday love around our home.  And I say, if you’re ready, go for it! We’ve only put up the Nativity scene in his room and the sign that counts down to Christmas – officially 37 days now! We almost put up the tree, but ran out of steam on Sunday night.  So, any other decorating may just have to wait until after Thanksgiving anyway! But yesterday, I got motivated to get some of our toy shopping done online.  Have you started?!
Today, I’m partnering with Nordstrom to share all my favorite JEANS with you- and there are lots of options.  Although I enjoy getting all dolled up as much as the next girl, “jeans and a tee” best describes my day-to-day style.  Designer jeans have their place in my closet, but I’m no discriminator, and also have stylish, budget-friendly pairs too.  You can check out their jeans under $100 here.
This post is a doozy, packed with tons of styles, and I broke it down into:1) Brands I know and love in alphabetical order with some high/low options along the way (including the ones most loved according to the women on Nordstrom reviews);

2) Maternity jeans – because at 24 weeks pregnant now, that’s all I fit into!; and

3) My easy “cuff & tuck” jean roll – perfect for wearing jeans with ankle boots so that a bit of your ankle shows and also great for us shorties, whose jeans are always too long!

I hope it’s helpful, let me know!

AG – ‘The Prima’ Mid Rise Cigarette Jeans – love, love, love these!  They are by far my favorite white jeans that I own and happen to be currently price matched- 25% off.  And don’t think that white is only for summer; winter white is so chic and classy! I bought these pre-pregnancy when I was in good shape, so I’m wearing size
I took advantage of the Nordstrom tailoring and snipped a tad off the length for a custom length. What makes these jeans so great is that they are thicker than most white jeans and not like a jegging that makes your legs look like sausages, but rather, they are thicker (98% cotton, 2% elastane) so they are more slimming and not sheer.

AG’s comparable ‘The Legging’ Skinny Ankle Jeans (white white) are a more true skinny jean, slimming all the way to the ankle and made with more stretch (61% cotton, 35% polyester, 4% Lycra spandex) if that’s what you’re going for.  They’ve gotten great reviews and are currently available in all sizes.  Would look awesome with a tall bootslouchy sweater and necklace (similar)!

I actually liked this cable knit sweater so much, I bought in grey and ‘brown sienna’ – it also comes in  burgundy and navy indigo’

BLANKNYC – ‘Good Vibes’ Distressed Skinny Jeans (Medium Wash Blue)

A great, weekend ripped jean is the BLANKNYC ‘Good Vibes’ Distressed Skinny Jean.  The holes on this jean are bigger, so they aren’t for work, just weekends.  And the lighter wash is more casual too. Size down one for a tighter fit and because they tend to stretch over time.  Apparently, I like to pair mine with striped tops!

The Citizens of Humanity – ‘Emannuelle’ Bootcut Jean (Modern Love)

While skinny and distressed are all the rage lately, I’m still smitten with my ultra comfy bootcut jeans that make your butt look oh, so good!  Don’t you always check how your booty looks in jeans when trying on?! I don’t know what it is about this pair that seems to give that extra lift, but I love it! With bootcut jeans, a wedge or heel will keep your legs from looking squatty.

A dark wash jean can easily be dressed up and made work or night-out ready, depending on what you wear on top.  Dark jeans pair especially well with blazers at the office or sassy tops and heels at night.  I feel like Joe’s Jeans are especially well made and fit very well (pre-pregnancy size 25, and I probably could’ve sized down for a tighter fit, but I love how relaxed this pair felt on).  My Joe’s are an old pair – the Genna straight ankle, but I’m loving their newer, skinny styles even better.  My old pair are similar to the popular ‘Honey’ Curvy Skinny Jeans (Charley).

Vigoss is a great value brand with styles that look good and won’t break the bank. I’ve had the Tomboy Destroyed Skinny Jeans (Medium Wash) and the Vigoss ‘Tomboy’ Destroyed Skinny Jeans forever and they’ve lasted through many wears and washes.  And they’re both under $60! You may want to size down as they tend to stretch out a little.

If you’ve been looking for a knee high boot, I’m crazy for this pair by Sole Society.  They have a 3 1/4 inch heel, not too chunky, and I wore them comfortably for several hours while running around this week.  They also come in black.  | similar statement necklace here & here
maternity jeans
And last but not least, when you’re pregnant and finally move from trying to make your non-maternity jeans work to actual maternity jeans, it’s such a relief!  Nordstrom has a good selection of maternity jeans, BUT, they don’t carry them at the store, so you’ll have to order online.  I’m all about online ordering, but with maternity jeans, I’d prefer to try on.  Since Nordstrom has free shipping and free returns, I’m okay ordering a couple sizes and then returning the ones that don’t fit.  With most maternity, they recommend ordering your pre-pregnancy size, but I feel like sometimes you have to size up.

I have been living in Paige Denim maternity jeans– they are so comfy and I love that they just have the side panel.  I don’t remember side panel jeans when I was pregnant 6 years ago, but maybe I just didn’t look hard enough.

And since I want a ‘winter white’ pair of maternity jeans, I just ordered the Maternal America Maternity Skinny Ankle Stretch Jeans.  They are made of 98% cotton and 2% Lycra spandex and have pretty good reviews.  Since they run in sizes XS to Large and since most reviewers recommended sizing up, I got the Small.  I’ll let you know how they work out. They come in 7 colors! I’m excited that they just pull up too, no button or zipper, but they still have pockets.

Easy way to roll your jeans - cuff and tuck

It looks cute to have a cuffed jean that isn’t too bulky at the bottom with a traditional double-roll, so I’ll do the “cuff & tuck” to still have some of the hem show, and a bit of ankle. So easy!

Or, on your skinny jeans, you can just do the cuff up a few inches and that looks good on it’s own.  But, a few inches cuffed looks more modern than just an inch or two.

Of course, jeans always look good tucked into tall boots.  I finally got a pair of tall socks to go with this look and think it’s super cozy!

I hope this post is helpful!  I’d love to hear what jeans you love!

  1. I am on the other end of the spectrum when it comes to jeans – they're always too short. I did appreciate you mentioning thicknesses and blends when it comes to the fabric. I'll be on the lookout for that when I finally get my courage together to buy some new jeans! You look fabulous pregnant! 🙂

    1. That would be a problem too! And maybe harder to deal with since you can't hem them longer. But, I'll take some of your height for you! Thank you for the compliment! 16 weeks to go!
