Organized Purses

Cleaning out and organizing our linen closet prompted many other organizing changes throughout the house.  One new idea I’m excited to share with you is a quick and easy way to organize your purses and tote bags.  I don’t know why I never thought of this earlier, but it finally occurred to me to hang them from the rod on shower hooks so I could easily see them at a glance.  Before I organized and hung them, some were hanging on the back of my closet door and others were stuffed into cubbies.  I like this way much better!

I used an expensive set of shower curtain hooks and chose silver to coordinate with the rod.
Most of my purse straps hung easily on one hook, but as you can see below, the tote on the far left had large round handles, so I hung each one on a separate hook.

Now I can easily see all of my bags at a glance (apparently I like stripes!), and they won’t get damaged.

Because I’m slightly OCD, I hung all the purses in the same direction.

In case you’re interested in where the bags are from, many I’ve had for a long time and are no longer available, so I linked similar. They are left to right:

  1. I tried to do this a few weeks ago (with those exact same shower curtain hooks) and the wooden rod in my closet was too big for the hooks to go over 🙁 I'm still on the lookout for some larger hooks!

  2. Why not insert a couple of recycled sturdy magazines inside the boots on top shelf to keep them from slouching to the side? Also, do you still display your other purses on shelves? And whoa! how many of those jeans do you actually wear 24/7…it's so true that no matter how many jeans are in our closets we truly only wear 3-4 of them regularly

    1. So funny, you sound exactly like me with the slouchy boots! Usually I keep something stuffed inside to stand them up too. 🙂 I do wear these jeans, I have different styles, lengths, washes, etc. But yes, I've heard a similar statistic that we wear 10% of our closet 90% of the time!

      1. I read in an organizing hack that swimming pool noodles are great to insert in your boots. It works great for me.

  3. This is a fantastic idea! I may be doing this in my own closet today (rainy day here so perfect for some at home organization). I set up a capsule wardrobe so I try to have pretty minimal numbers of purses, but when I do invest I try to go for quality (it is the french wardrobe concept that is inspiring me here). http://www.peonyandgrahams.com/2015/08/the-dream-closetthe-simple-chic-capsule.html

Jewelry is where I have too much so I created this jewelry DIY and set a mini-vanity in my closet. http://www.peonyandgrahams.com/2015/08/simple-jewelry-organization-diy.html

I also do the matching hanger thing. It is crazy how big it makes a space feel and look.

  4. Megan! I am SO in love with this idea! I'll be doing this in my closet for sure! Thanks cutie! Oh and I just ordered that black striped back from Sole Society this weekend! xo

  5. LOVE This idea. I'm moving to a new home and will finally have some extra hanging space. I'm using this idea for sure….I can never see my bags so they don't get used as often as they should.
