Spring Dining

For the past several months, our family made a point to get together at my parents’ house for dinner most weekends.  It was nothing fancy, and sometimes we just ordered a couple of pizzas, but the point was to spend quality time together.  We let the kids run around and play in the backyard and the adults just chatted and hung out for a few hours.  We are continuing to do our weekend dinners, but now we’ll start alternating houses between ours, my brother’s, and my mom’s.  I wanted to make the next dinner at our house light and lively and found some perfect Spring table accessories at World Market to help set the mood.

As soon as I walked into the the store, these bright floral table linens caught my eye.  They are from the World Market Fiji Foliage collection and consist of pretty green and lime tropical leaves with  flowers in cherry and fuchsia.  This pattern is on everything from plates and bowls to bed linens and shower curtains.  I restrained myself and only bought the table runner and napkins.
I almost bought the placemats, but didn’t want everything too matchy-matchy.  I would’ve done the placemats and napkins or napkins and runner, but not all three.  I ended up finding these cool beaded rim rattan chargers (in lagoon blue, coral, and apple green) and bought two of each to mix and match on the table.
Our everyday white places look clean and crisp against the charger with the napkin on top.
I’ve come to really enjoy using my gold flatware, so when I saw these stainless steel and faux wood flatware, I knew I’d like using them too.  Just something different from our everyday silverware that we’ve had for 8 years.  I’m slightly finicky about how flatware feels in my hand and these feel great, but maybe better for smaller hands since they’re on the skinny side.  They come in soup and tea spoons also, but I figured I only really needed the knives and forks.  You can buy them individually to suit how many you need.
I already had drinking glasses from World Market (these but taller) and they look even prettier with a yellow and white paper straw peeking out.
What about these adorable bottle vases with wood holder?!  So stinking cute, right?!  I got two since our table is longer.   I love how the neck on the bottles is small, so one bunch of flowers would be all you need to fill them out.  I used a combo of green leaves, white carnations and white daisies.  Since they are rather tall, I’ll have to move them when we all sit down to eat.  You could also just cut the stems shorter to decrease the height.  I’m already thinking how pretty they would look with colorful gerber daisies or purple flowers.
But for this Spring table, I like the simple, casual arrangement of white flowers and raw wood against the colorful tropical table runner and napkins. Nice contrast between them.  I find these kinds of flowers last forever too, so hopefully, they’ll be around awhile.
I’m looking forward to hosting the next dinner! Now what to cook??  Maybe we’ll just do pizza again . . .
